nice meetn the folks I met today :) the race wasnt bad either! Stopped off in Albert park, middlesboro on the way home for a nap in the sun, I was exhausted, I could barely turn the pedals on my bike by the time I got home to Hartlepool. Look a bit like a lobster now :p

Finished 3rd in my age category and 17th girl overall and did 9 of the 13 races. In at the deep end for me...! I'd never raced 'off-road' before the Viking Chase and only trained off road under 'orders'.

Hard luck there FF, everyone has the odd bad race from time to time and considering how little off road races you've done, I wouldn't worry too much. :)

Well done to everyone on their race times and also to those of us who just completed the series, I'm quite pleased with my efforts. Fairyfeet, come and do some of the summer series if you get a chance, there are some lovely races. You should come to Carlton Bank and collect your certificate anyway! :D
Mountain Goatess also suggested Fairfield as a good race to do, think its on the 15th May.

Never run it before, but good 'holiday race' while on the wrong side of the country ;)
There is only one side of the country. It starts from Northallerton in the far west to Redcar then down to Scarborough across to Helmsley and then up to Northallerton again. It encloses the whole of the North York Moors including the heritage coast. There are other parts of England; Blackpool tower, Westminster abbey, Coronation street, Brookside close, Albert Square. These place a ARE NOT REAL!!! Stick to the North York Moors guys or gadgees as we say round here - its too dangerous anywhere else - you will get knocked town by a cockney taxi, buried under a patio or hit on the head with a bust of Queen Victoria
Will be heading up to this, seen as its fairly local for me at work!

Probably, overall, due to the road and track sections. But there'll be bits on the moors and up and down through the woods, as well as on Roseberry, when you'll think "I wish I'd worn my fell shoes."Quote:

As it turned out, it was definitely a day for studs!
Personally, it was a bit of a disaster as I DNF'd: pulled my calf early on, hoped I could run it off, but it was clearly getting worse.
I limped down from Captain Cook's Monument and retired at the car park checkpoint.
Many thanks to Sharon Gayter who kindly gave me a lift back to the start and did a good job raising my spirits by convincing me there is still a chance I can recover sufficiently to have a go at The Fellsman a week on Saturday.
Definitely glad I picked up a new pair of Talons last week!! Quite muddy, but very quick and runnable course. Really enjoyed it, a few cheeky climbs thrown in.Quote:

Yep...the weather was definitely 'variable' but I loved the snow falling as I entered the woods on the way down to the finish and the muddy bank was fab, skipped past 2 guys slipping about in it:thumbup:. It was the 4th time I've done this race and I pb'd despite the conditions being a bit tougher than last year. My fellsman training is also paying off as I ran most of the hills (with the exception of Roseberry!) and even jogged up High Cliff Nab and finished feeling able to run some more. :) Great to see so many familiar faces too.
That muddy bank finish was proper tasty at full tilt! Anyone in trail shoes would have been snookered there!Quote:

Quite pleased with my time. The winning time was a couple minutes slower than last year and I was a few minutes faster (a pb) so maybe I'm getting my running mojo back, not that its much to talk about, I'm still the back end of the front half (sounds like a pantomime horse!:rolleyes: ).
It was a race long battle - Jim Bulman, Cameron and Paul Butler, then a four minute gap to the remainder of the field. My legs are in recovery mode, running round in track circles, parkruns and road relays are not an ideal training diet for Gisboro Moors and alike. Roll on Fox and Hounds and may be Fairfield.Quote:
