Jude, you have certainly got a talent for this reporting malarky. Great reporting and updates, well done to all.
You missed a very wet & murky Grisedale!!!!
How did MF the fellrunningbriefs groupie get on?
Glad to have missed the rain! Groupie MF sat about all day and answered questions like "where's Ben Nevis" "who's Ian Holmes" etc and read out Alice's invaluable texts, both MF and Alice vital parts of the Fell running briefs team!Ps who won grisedale....?
Daleside you are a star-so many hidden talents! Could we have live webcam next, with you in a suitable newsreader attire? This has kept me going all day today-you'll be up for the BBC reporter Oscar next!!!
Alan Smith (Deeside) goes back down the short-cut/path rather than the grassy bank - not sure how it works time wise, but on my last two years experience I think it would take less out of the legs and so leave more for the rest of the race. Mind you there have been a hundred runners down the grass by the time I get there so it is always a mess!
Scott b has just pointed us in the direction of the RESULTS. http://www.bennevisrace.co.uk/2011_Results.pdf
Daz H beat Holmsie and put in a top 10 performance to boot....bloody hell
bobby DAZzler!!!
Aye, Daz came flying down the grass bank at incredible speed and you could see he was still going to pass a few. I reckon as he crossed the burn at the bottom of the bank, he was in 13th-15th position, so he passed several more on the last bit of descent. A truly astounding performance, and well deserved. You couldn't hope to meet a nicer person and someone who is so generous with his encouragement, advice, praise and time, whether you're an experienced runner or a newbie at the back of the pack. Nice one Daz, only wish we'd stopped to see you go up on stage!
The other person who deserves a special mention is Sarah Ridgeway. I heard the story on the hill, but have had it confirmed now, that Sarah was well placed as 3rd lady when another competitor had a nasty fall resulting in a bad cut. Sarah stopped to help him and, in doing so, lost any chance of placing in the lady's race. I do hope the race committee made a point of recognising this at the awards ceremony. What a fantastic, selfless act and one which, above all else, sums up what is so good about fellrunning and the fellrunning community.
