HELLO everyone.
And how are we this fine day?
Hopefully you will be having a good break from work.
Where's everyone been?
Looked after my 3 year old nephew on Saturday. We played hide-and-seek in the living room (i am 6ft2" so not easy to hide anywhere, never mind a single room), for about an hour and a half. He only hid in two different hiding places during the whole time, and then insisted i start hiding in the same place every time (under a blanket on the chair in the conservatory). I'd just done a big gym session and really needed to sit down for a bit. Then played "pirate bingo", basically a pairs card game, where he thrashed me even though i was trying my hardest.
Sunday went down to south Wales for the Brecon Beacons fell race, lovely part of the world and the weather was fantastic (not so fantastic for racing).
My mate and I have just completed a continuous round of the Peak District Boundary Walk. 16 days of great fun. We did it by the guide book so start to finish of each stage as in the book. Clocking up an average of 12/13 miles per day. Most of the trip was brilliant with just a few scratching of heads at some places as routes were hidden or blocked. Tiptoeing past cows and accompanying bull! Getting the passport stamped was a challenge in its self as stamping stations not open or they couldn't find the stamp or as at Tittesworth Reservoir Visitors Centre "we have the stamp but no ink pad" haha. The last 6 stages we got stamped at Jo Royals in Buxton when we finished on Sunday. Days out 16 - Saturday 21st July to Sunday 5th August. Some beautiful weather and one Armageddon day last week. I (Sue) decided I would have a different single gin at the end of each day and I actually managed to do that. Of the 16 my favourites were Rock Rose, Deaths Door and Opihr. Loved it. Well done to those who's idea it was to put it together. https://static.xx.fbcdn.net/images/e.../1/16/2764.png<3
16days - 206mls - 33'133ft climb.
MrRTS and MrA were support crew for the 16 days. And a good job they did too.
Solid outing that RTS - good effort
Blooming QAH 😕
Now that sounds great and with a summer to match.
I like the gin idea too.
Well done all of you. A top effort.
Morning all....who's paying attention today??
Office-bound today, with the scenic splendour of the Birmingham ring road outside the window (window complete with steel bars to prevent break-ins, it really is a salubrious area around here....)
Straight from work to the track tonight. Big session.
Dreaming of the weekend and a double of races in the Howgills, with a couple of nights booked in Sedbergh. Bring it on....
It is a little quieter now. No more wonderful humerous rambles from Danbert Nocurry. Joliver jim, Daz H and now Danbert. Big parts of the forum family who have sadly departed.
Last one out, please turn out the lights. Too sad.
We can add former moderator Rob Shepherd (Feet in the Cowclaps) to your list too Wheeze - sad days
After reading of Danbert's passing, I too had a few melancholy moments thinking of 'headline' forumites that we can no longer expect to post on these pages - Wheeze & DT have between them covered my list.
I also know of another once prolific poster who has spent all of this year battling with bowel cancer, which has entailed complete removal of the bowel, and is now fitted with a colostomy bag. Appears to be recovering but still a poorly person. I won't give away identity details as the person in question is determined not to discuss the issue on social media.
I knew I'd forget someone! FITC...an honorary brycheiniog member as well.
I'm sure there are others.
Best wishes to the forumite who’s been battling cancer. I recently spent several days in hospital with two guys who’d had similar problems. All the very best to you whoever and wherever you are
Just read in the mag of the passing of Neville McGraw. Think he posted occasionally. Had 1 or 2 enjoyable battles at races such as gravy pud where he'd motor past to the finishing line.
Rip Neville.
The sad news just carries on eh Manhar? Hope you’re okay mate
Life has it's ups and downs.
Just enjoy the your time.
Too true Stagger. I'm fine DT. You OK following your hospital stay ?
Have tended towards what I would call social running these last few years, real life intervening. Having said that will be ambling along at Lost shepherd next weekend.
To paraphrase Burning Spear social running is the best
Still on antibiotics Manhar to clear up a difficult to move infection but fine in myself thanks. Been over to Beefy’s Nab today for some very light marshalling duty
Hi Manhar,
Yes, 'Wily Vet' on here if you want to revisit some of his posts. Including him featuring in the post 'Helicopter Heroes'.
Nev is sorely missed in our Peak District running and athletics community. We had some great times with him and he was a real stalwart at his club. There was a massive turnout of the community at his farewell service last month which was so good to be part of.
Was a touch QAH while the forum was down. I understand one of Brett’s offspring got out the bailing twine, superglue, sticky tape etc and fixed it. Good work Jack lad
Aye. Good to be back.
Thanks so much Brett
Just me and 19 bots. Woke up and could not get back to sleep... so doing the old hot milk routine.Must get back off....18 miler tomorrow!
You’ll be in trouble talking about running on QAH Wheeze
<Was a touch QAH while the forum was down. I understand one of Brett’s offspring got out the bailing twine, superglue, sticky tape etc and fixed it. Good work Jack lad>
Yes, thank you for fixing it quickly. I hope there's a bit of superglue left to fix the "Reply with quote" facility.
Sounds great
It is. Pembrokeshire Coast Path came 2nd in worlds greatest walks judged by Lonely Planet. We are blessed to live in such a place.
2nd presumably to the Worth Way
Narr 2nd to My Way
Blimey, I went to a fell race today, and ran with Wheeze. This is a very, very rare occurrence and am now enjoying the "quiet bit" with a bottle of red (woops, it's empty) and a certain glow.
Almost like the old days of racing and then home to a bouyant forum in one of the lounges.
Maybe there's still life in me.
Very nice. Hopefully you enjoyed your day molehill.
You must still be in good form to turn out and keep up with the old lad🤣
Well done Moley and Wheeze
I’m going to try to do a fell race before the end of the year. Last couple of months been rubbish for me and Stef with illness and a redundancy
I thought the same DT.
Not missed a race a year for 13 years now.
David Staff or Stoop are the ones I'm looking at.
Cant tell you how wonderful it was to see moley yesterday. Was life affirming, especially since this was the first time I have raced since my cardiologist gave me the all clear! The little mammal raced like a good un...Finished only just behind me!
It’ll be a bit less QAH with Stef due home later from several weeks away working
Wow, the 'bots are multiplying! 29 of 'em along with me tonight!!
Just on a sunbed in Turkey.
24° and sunny.
Enjoy England and well done the RL team.
