This evening I met Hillary Wharam from horsforth harriers who takes a slow 5k session on Tuesday nights. I ran with her group due to being a bit sore from the weekend. A very polite, unassuming and softly spoken lady with the utmost appreciation for race organisers, nobody would think for a moment she is in the Guinness book of records as the oldest lady to run 10 marathons in 10 consecutive days! I think she said she was 74.
Some days you're just not firing on all cylinders, she commented, you just walk for miles without ever breaking to a run.
Nice one Mr B!
Hello XRunner! Long time you been quiet!
Hi Wheeze,
I think that if people want to read about the forum at its best then they should read the Today's Poet thread
PS. what has happened to Toffer?
I'm not one for poetry but I really appreciate the deep expression of humanity that many poets achieve. I did really enjoy the poems scattered through Selwyns sweet book and in fact discovered the words that I want read when it's my time to run off the mortal coil.
Toffer is still around but cycling now. Running is hard after his cycling induced injuries....he may tell us the gory details!
Been in touch with the Toffer this week on the strava thingy, he is doing lots of bike miles and a little running. Unfortunately he's in Cardiff and they have just been locked down which will be a b****r for him and others.
The Facebook page seems to be hitting new levels of repetitively inane questions over the last couple of days. It does seem to get "cleaned" by the mods... But at the moment it seems they can't keep up.
Long live the forum!
I closed my Facebook account yesterday.
Took the nephew to the park this afternoon. After a bit of football we decided to climb up and down the hill three times. In true fellrunning fashion he went off like a stabbed rat and ran half of the first climb... and by the 2nd time down he had to lie down.
Clearly racing tactics run in the family (hammer it up the first climb then hang on for grim death).
A few days sitting on a chair fishing, whilst living on doughnuts, ☕ and bacon sandwiches have taken their toll :o.
Walked down the pub this afternoon as last weekend before it closes, had a few pints but strange leaving and saying to friends "see you next year, hopefully".
Best hit the hills in some way tomorrow.
Agh Moley! This is tragic news. I do so hope they can reopen but it must be desperately hard keeping a place going in Deepest Darkest Wales. It certainly will be quiet over your way. Here on the border, we are all abuzz with the instructions to man Drakefords Dyke and throw woad at incoming Anglo-Saxon invaders!
Going to be a looooooong winter with no pub, the Towy Bridge only opened weekends through the winter, for us locals really, which was great. They made their money through the summer and tick over in the winter, pub is too small for inside drinking so they have no option.
Luckily they are a recoursfull couple and already have other jobs, better than sitting around moaning how unfair it all is. Roll on the spring.
Got up this morning and saw a rainbow as I looked out of the kitchen window. Somehow I don't associate rainbows with early morning.
Moley, you missed a trick. You could have put up a big marquee next to your reactor and relocated the pub as an outdoor venue on your doorstep!
Very disappointed the trans gender thread has been shut down. I've read Graham Breeze's reply and it's as I thought and typical of issues today. The wrong decision made by people in power who should be protecting everyone. I'm not going to say anymore on the issue.
Was reliving my XC race from last weekend with my nephew... anything that involves competition/placings/numbers really appeals to him...
His question as to why i lost a sprint finish for 4th place... "did you trip over a mountain"
We'll make a fellrunner of him yet.
Well it is!
I'm on the start list for a South Wales fell race on saturday... though our remaining in Tier 3 (not to mention the small matter of the outright ban on travelling into Wales!) means i can't go.
In fact it puts paid to any of the xmas/new year races for me.
Next one on the list for me, Marsden-Edale Trigger, early Feb... talk about a tough comeback race!!
That could well be the case. Got to keep looking forward to the next (potential) race, something to focus on!
In the meantime, there's the club xmas time-trial (organised by yours truly), and the 2nd round of the club XC... as i'm sure we all agree, getting one over on your clubmates is worth more than even the most glorious of victories elsewhere!!
You know that feeling when you join a zoom/teams meeting and there's nobody else there...that.
Quiet. Oh yes. All discussions worn out.
Hang on. I'll try something.
I see what you did there. That should do the trick.
Just watched a documentary on BBC 4 about cigar box guitar makers/players. I totally get it. I swear to god they are fellrunners who forgot to start running.
So while running (there's the fellrunning link) and ploughing the usual muddy furrow up to and back from the trig behind my house this morning, through the driek cloud, my chuntering mind reflected on how with endless brexit-fish wrangling and now the threat to Santa-freight, there's never been a better time to hate the French (there's the firestarter). Discuss?
Good Moaning...
Actually i watched an episode of Allo Allo last night... within two minutes i'd heard the phrases "trollop" and "oily wop"....
For some reason i couldn't see Allo Allo being sanctioned by the tv authorities these days!!
Not quiet around here today as I was wrestling with a noisy rotavator up the allotment.
Also had a good fire going, as the wind was in the right direction, and other allotment holders contributed their cuttings to the flames.

I had a surprise visit from my brother and my nephews, who came for a quick chat outside the house.
They had been to a local country park and fed the ducks, kicked a football round, and my eldest nephew was full of the joys of spring, and absolutely beaming to be going back to school monday.
We also had a little guessing game, where he guessed that i was 100 inches tall and weighed 8 stone... which i think would drop my BMI quite alarmingly.
In other news: Ilkley not as nice as part of Bristol

Altricham took the north-west award :D
Admittedly its good for pubs on the way to Old Trafford.
