It's early days yet. Danbert knows he need to raise his game now.

I'd rather have my kid watching the likes of Scholes.. playing at Carrington.. than in a quagmire in Rochdale.. lower leagues are still dominated by power.
They do hoover up, that is the Barca way, which works for Spain.. If the clubs, like WH and Saints, and Man U, have a history of playing young players kids will go there.. Chelsea have suffered with this. Arsenal haven't. I think most teams now look to their youth as financially they can't afford not to.. we have to have home grown players on benches.
I think I said "big clubs" not Man United :D
If people like you don't care about kids getting dumped (and there is a hell of a lot get dumped for every one that makes it to the first team) after being "groomed" by premiership clubs then its a good thing we have the lower leagues and non-league sides to pick up the mess they have left.
Anyway is that why united send kids to Bury ?
I see the Oirish gobshoite Keane has come out and said the Cloughie was a better manager than the Govan Piss Can. Now while there may be some bitterness in his reasoning, I too have always thought that this was the case.
OBE (Old Big 'Ead in Clough's own words) won the league title with two small provincial clubs and won the European Cup with one of them, Forest, a team full of rejects.
Let's be honest Iain - Bacon's succession is going the way of King Lear. It's only a matter of time until he's found wondering about naked in a storm, probably in Newton Heath, accompanied by Phil Neville in a jester's outfit.;)
Thats Neville Nevilles influence...
But yes the drop out rate is huge.. I watching Barca V Celtic Youth today in the Cl.. U19? I'd bet even at that level only 50% will make it.. i.e. the Barca team..
But it is huge. I had a mate at school, didnt do GCSE's as he was England youth.. every level.. thin even U21.. signed for Wednesday 1000 / week.. Danny wilson came in thought he was too small.. he ended up at Emley in teh non league next club and was out of football 18 months later. He's actually done well for himself, but not many will.. if you have a brain you dont do the YTS sort of schemes..
Fletcher couldnt play for Man U til he left school and he wanted to get A-levels.. so Fergie had to keep him out of the team, but now we have an intelligent rounded player.
Danbert.. Fergie won a european trophy with a team of average scottish players...
Fergie won and stayed at the top for the 70's 80's, 90's, 00s, 10's.. 5 decades.. no other manager has touched him.. Cloughie was relegated pissed for the last decade..
Danbert you'll love this:
"St. Mirren have the distinction of being the only club ever to sack Ferguson. He claimed wrongful dismissal against the club at an industrial tribunal but lost and was given no leave to appeal. According to a Billy Adams Sunday Herald article on 30 May 1999, the official version is that Ferguson was sacked for various breaches of contract including unauthorised payments to players.[27] He was counter-accused of intimidating behaviour towards his office secretary because he wanted players to get some expenses tax free. He didn't speak to her for six weeks, confiscated her keys and communicated only through a 17-year-old assistant. The tribunal concluded that Ferguson was "particularly petty" and "immature".[29] It was claimed during the tribunal by St. Mirren chairman, Willie Todd, that Ferguson had "no managerial ability"."
Have you heard of Bob Paisley mate? He didn't have Ferguson's longevity but 6 League Championships, 3 European Cups, 1 UEFA Cup and 3 League Cups in 9 years isn't bad (and that was in the days when winning the League Cup meant something).
As for Fergie's European trophy win with Aberdeen, the Cup Winners Cup was by far the easiest European trophy to win, most seasons you only had to beat a couple of decent teams to win it
No.. who was he?
Anyway not his longevity.. he didn't rebuild and rebuild..
You are joking.. taking Aberdeen.. they beat Real Madrid in the final.. Bayern in the 1/4's... to down play that achievement just shows bewildering ignorance of football.. easily the greatest achievement in the last 30 years in British football.
You always go on about the small teams doing well, yet then say that trash??
When did a team outside the old firm last win a Scottish title, never mind a European title?
Honestly... You've actually knocked Danbert off his Perch on that one. Well done!
Come on Danbert raise your game?
I was only replying to your arrogant post that no other manager had touched him. Bob won 3 European Cups in 9 years, Fergie won 2 in 27 years, as they say you do the maths.
As for 'easily the greatest achievement in the last 30 years in British football' I guess you have been hitting the gluwhein a bit early today mate, what about Arsenal going a full Premiership season unbeaten:confused:
No chance.. United's treble eclipses the invincibles.. they were impressive and dominant, but a world class powerful team who came up short in Europe. Fergies Aberdeen were minnows.. even in Scotland.
3 European cups.. impressive.. but as you say its about who you play.. in those days you only had to play the champions of Spain, Italy, Germany.. the rest were minnows.. OK many of the other nations in the east were stronger, Red Star etc, but most weren't.. despite the moaning the CL is a much higher standard overall than the EC..
Still it was bloody impressive, but it was basically one team.. one club, Fergie remained at the top from almost day 1 and evolved with the game as it changed more than ever before.
Do the people in Manchester who support Man Utd love Fergie? I mean really worship him. Clough is a God in the East Midlands (and relevant parts of the North East). I've never sensed that level of genuine warmth and affection for the Scot. He's ever so slightly dour is he not? Interesting tale in a new-ish Clough biog I read t'other day. Brian could park where he liked in Derby up to his death basically. No police or traffic wardens would even look at his motor where ever it was parked
Love him.. He's also opened my old mans apprenticeship scheme.. in sheffield so most were SU or SW and everyone loved how warm he was, especially with the youth, staff kids too.. My mum properly fell in love..
Most who no him do speak well of him and how much he will help.
It wasn't a crazy decision Iain - it was typical City - 'Gypsy's Curse' - Ball in the Corner wasting time and getting relegated' - 'Luton Town' - 'Ricky Villa' - 'Winning the League one year then getting Relegated the next' - 'Scoring 100 Goals and Getting Relegated' - 'Bury, Stockport, Lincoln and Yes even York Away' - 'Dickov's last minute Equaliser' and of course '2-1 Down with 2 Minutes to play and Winning the League Title Aguerooooooooo' are all an intrinsical part of our make up and a part of the genealogy and DNA that make up Manchester City Football Club.
Last night was just another notch on the bedside post that's why we embrace the club, quirks and foibles, It's what makes us and what makes everyone who ever walked through the doors of Maine Road and now The Etihad fall in love with the Sky Blues.
Did we really get it wrong.......Nah we got it spot on as and as near perfect as only City ever could.
Listen, If we had actually won 2-4 and been top, Aguero would have broken his leg getting on to the airplane home or something that's what happens with us.
Nowt wrong with York away Danbert, that was my first big away trip as a lad in 1966, FA Cup first round. Coincidentally after draws at York and Morecambe the second replay for some bizarre reason was at Maine Road.
A bonus point for anyone who can name the two teams who played the last time there was a second replay in the FA Cup, no googling
This is what makes me laugh.. you think we love United for the wins.. not similar reasons.. the highs and the lows.. the come backs.. 'football, bloody football'.. as I've said many times the best season since 08.. was you winning the league on the last game of the season.. its just drama.. only United can do that to us.. that's why I'm still enjoying it now.. I did when we were struggling in the old league one...
You don't pick your team, you get told what team you support, and that's it.. I was just lucky.. you weren't..
Congrats Alf, you have joined Iain's 'you don't agree with me so you are an idiot' club. Only me, you and Danbert so far but no doubt the membership will grow.
Whatever he says he will never know what it's like to support a team struggling in the lower leagues or non league, stood in the pissing rain, sometimes miles from home wondering why you bother, but those experiences make the good days all the more worthwhile.
Thats brilliant..so he says I'm a phoney..I called him an idiot.. don't be such a soft lad.. it's all relative, highs and lows, but no I dont stand in the rain.. I'll do that when I stop competing.. I never understand sportsman who would rather watch than compete or train..
But I also watch occassionally Brechin.. quality team...
You and Danbert are quality for your woe is me stories..
Maybe, we'll see.. I'm not sure. I think if we get to the 1/4s in the CL.. win a cup, top 4 it'll be a decent season. Looking at the last 16 draw we should get a decent draw. Milan are the obvious ones to avoid, but they are way off what they were, so we should get through that.
I do like the abuse you get for being a Man U fan, had a mate who switched from Man U to Man City because he got bored of always winning and randomly picked city when they were in league 2.. could never understand it.
Absolutely spot on Richard. I think the most annoying thing is the amount of moaning and "woe is me" stuff we're beginning to hear from them at the moment. They genuinely feel they've got it tough. Tough?!!! Sweet Jesus, can you imagine if they found themselves playing league games against the likes of Wycombe Wanderers, Macclesfield Town and Lincoln City?!! They've no concept of what tough is.
From what I can make of it, the new protest, Instead of wearing green and yellow scarves, appears to be going to Old Trafford matches dressed as a red seat (and smelling of piss).:p
Ahh bad news Richard.. Danberts just cracked most idiotic post of the week... raise your game?
Danbert... try and find one post where I have done the woe is me??? I've heard very little from anyone to be honest. Even the BBC had an article on Moyes having old trafford support...
Go on just one... one woe is me comment about our situation? I'm not too worried, I think we'll do OK. we are sound financially, didn't spend millions like city.. have kept our soul.... again unlike city...
You are the one who croaks on about what it is to support a shite team..
Look a marriage is a marriage whether its too munters or two stunners... they still love each other.. luckily I fell for the elle Macpherson of football and you for the Fizz... I still don't doubt your relationship..
Iain your owners are mortgaged up to the hilt, if they go you are out of business.
Clearly you're not hearing it Iain, I am, and I'm loving it.
You're 9th in the league and a high percentage of your fans are cracking up. 9th? If they'd had to go through half of what we've been through in the past 30 years, they'd be selling their kids for 9th.
I've got to say though that your demise has been staggering this season and long may it continue. If that means by keeping Moyesee in place then so much the better. Surely it's no coincidence that as soon as he has left Everton they are playing some lovely football.
It's becoming laughable, the rag media in particular talkshite are wheeling out everyone and everybody to support the idea of wee Davey having more time. This morning driving to work I heard the Elephant man (Steve Bruce) saying what a good manager Gollum is and how he needs time.
Part of me hopes you implode spectacularly in some way but another side of me wishes you a long and painful decline, i suppose can't have it both ways.
Rubbish, and you know it.
Iain It's been obvious to everyone that the Govan Piss Can had had that team over performing for the past 2-3 years.
The big, big question is, did he not spend or did he not have any money to spend (I suspect the latter but hope it was the former).
Personally this season I'm hoping you miss fourth place by 1 point. This will give your glory hunting fans a false hope that they can improve, the Glazers will open the purse strings under protest and Sir Davey will then waste the lot ensuring an even more disastrous season next year.
In Gollum we trust. Tick Tock. :p
He was a bitter, rude, graceless, humourless bully with a vile temper who had an open and unrelenting contempt for referees.
There is no doubt however that his overbearing attitude did work in United's favour.
The record shows that in soccer's peculiarly imprecise manner of timekeeping, referees added more time to the end of games in which United were trailing than they did for any other club.'
Yeah.. that was why we have 20 titles..
Honestly you really have to get over it.. even when you are winning you focus on us..
We'll be fine under Moyes, but I just hope the club acts with class and gives him 3 years. We have good young players, a few obvious issues to sort but I think that can change but we're in a healthy position.
If City's owners good bored, City would dissapear overnight.. we'll always attract new owners because we're an attractive company.
In fact I hugely undervalued the club, its probably over 2 billion according to forbes, so 350 million debt is less than 20%.. we're one of the few to pay the desired wages/turnover ratio.. of all the teams in the league we're about the most attractive financially.
