I dropped a jumbo-sized jar of cod liver oil tablets onto the kitchen floor today. No worries though, as the damage was only super-fish-oil

Well done GazB who ran in the Podium 5km yesterday, featured live on Facebook.... thought i spotted you but it cut out just as you were crossing the finish line!
Was certainly an interesting night with the women's 5km road world record being beaten (but for some complicated reasons, road 5km times are not known as "world records" and i believe it will go down as an "unofficial worlds fastest time")
Today's Droning- that one didn't last long did it? All the juicy posts that stuck the knife in seem to have been edited out. Rest in peace Today's droning.
I didn't see any posts other than those that are there. Poor Stolly hit a nerve for some of us. His drone videos are beautiful and answer the dreams of many of us as to what it must be like to fly. The sad thing is the negative impact of drones. As I mentioned in my posts, if one flys over my house (which they have occasionally done) is it innocent or someone looking to see what might be pinchable? Theres no way of knowing. It really unnerves me. Its a major privacy issue.
I obviously disagree; to me my drone (which is really small and easily fits in my pocket) is just a really fantastic camera, a camera that flies and hovers. Photography is one of my big hobbies and the drone is just a fantastic addition to my existing cameras. As for scoping out people’s gardens, I doubt if I was a burglar I’d need a drone to do that as there’s so many easier ways. I think it’s the buzzing people don’t like, which is fair dues, and perhaps the fact that, like in so many things, a few dick heads give a hobby or interest a bad name
Nobody minds at all the absolutely stunning drone photography employed to capture Danny MacGaskill descending Black Slabs on his mountain bike on Skye but, conversely, me doing my little drone shots, completely alone on top of a mountain at dawn, somehow means that the only replies bar one, to what I thought would be a great idea for a new thread on a dusty old mantle piece of a forum, were all negative
I thought my original comment was fairly positive for me as a somewhat dour Yorkshireman. For what its worth I think your 2 later videos were even better. My late father always said you could see malham cove from the top of the slide in our local park, I do believe he was right if the sun was glinting off it, the slide has long gone.
Not looking to argue just putting my point of view re drones etc, the perception that anybody is alone on the fells at Dawn/Dusk, or any wild places for that matter is flawed. I for one have for years chosen to be out on the hills pre dawn or maybe dusk, for the solitude and atmosphere of seeing the new day awaken/end (I know it makes me sound like a crank as pointed out to me on more than one occasion but I know several other people that prefer to be in the hills early /Late doors) this time of year the dawn chorus is an added joy and to have my senses assailed by any man made contrivance totally screws up the remoteness that I have gone to a lot of effort to lose myself in, the same applies to dusk.
Yes i have been buzzed on more than one occasion by drones at dawn/Dusk, I am also a keen photographer but I am conscious that any hobby I pursue should not give irritation to others which of course leaves me with gaps in my hobbies that I cannot fill because going down certain avenues may well encroach on another's comfort zone so for me it`s a case of carry on and get the best I can whilst respecting others wishes/views.
Like I say just my point of view and not looking to argue
Firstly my drone is apparently one of the quietest you can get but yes it definitely makes a buzzing sound. Which ironically is probably a good thing - if people hear a drone at least they are aware of it being flown in the area. Wheeze’s concern about a drone perhaps speccing out his house or garden for evil intent is kind of stymied by the noise thing. But yeah hands up I agree drones make a noise which can be annoying
As for other people being in the area while I was flying, well just have a look at the videos and see if you can see anyone. In fact for the Malham Cove flight there was another photographer up there doing a series of time-lapse photos of the sunrise and I specifically first checked with him if he minded me flying from a point about 200 yards from him and he was fine with that. In fact he had a drone of his own for photography too. Those three locations in the Dales - Penyghent, Malham Cove and Whernside - might be right up there as the most busiest (and during the day ergo the most noisiest) but they for sure were’nt busy when I was there
And what about other country side and wilderness ‘unnatural’ noises? Shotguns going off? Tractors? Farmers on quad bikes? Crow scarers? Hot air balloons? Low level jets screaming over? Explosions at the quarries (here in Horton)? Walkers chatting and shouting to each other? Dogs barking - I for sure know when I’m near a fell hound kennels? Motor bikes gunning past in the valley below (again a big thing here in the Dales)? Walkers playing radios and music out loud? The list goes on to be honest and drone noises are small beer compared to much of the rest
I’m obviously a fan of drone photography to be fair, just have a look at Danny MacAskill doing black slabs:

Or this incredible recent drone footage from a bowling alley in the US:

Stunning photography but yes it comes with an annoying buzzing sound
Same here. But Stolly, the only way you can see around the back of my place is to fly over it. A drone comes over....what am I to think?
Never mind drones. Yesterday on Plynlimon we were treated from around, 1.30 pm to 3pm, to a fantastic air display by RAF fighter jets one of whom saluted us with a sonic boom. It did not spoil the day one bit but one of the dogs wasn't very impressed.
Now if they had been drones....
It’s trespass to fly low over somebody’s garden with a drone that has a camera so have a word with the person operating it. He or she will be easy to spot - just look for someone gormlessly staring at what will look a bit like a console game pad :)
I’m not sure whether it will actually come to fruition but Amazon and UPS have been working on parcel delivery by drone, with the advantage being really fast delivery, especially to rural areas. Google Amazon Prime Air. For sure not everybody’s cup of tea but commercially used drones will definitely be a thing in the future. Geeks flying their own little drones like me on the top of mountains and cliffs will probably continue to be a small sideshow
Gonna get me one of thez, y'all...

Nah...lost all sympathy now. Enjoying a peaceful evening out on back patio on the first evening when it's been warm enough. Holiday cottage nearby has some guests in it who brought a droneand it's been zapping around overhead like a demented mega wasp. Ban em all!! So bad that t,missus has gone to have a word!
Commiserations.
I think the problem is Wheeze when drones are used like some extra, extra, long selfie stick - look at me/us!!
Perhaps licensing them and having a set of legal rules, best practice guidance may temper their proliferation and ensure their more positive, responsible use like for photography, land surveying, covering sporting events, etc.. They can also have other very positive usages, like for searching during mountain rescues, etc.

I agree. Many legitimate uses...including beautiful photography that Stolly practises. And I genuinely thought his posted views were wonderful. Sadly the downsides are just too big to ignore. Professional use only I suggest.
You guys though are blaming it on the drones when in fact shouldn’t you be blaming it on dick heads, who happen to be flying drones?
It’s like banning dogs because some dog owners let them poo in the street or hill walking because of some idiot people drop their rubbish in the hills? Or banning motor bikes because so many thrash them down the roads at 100 mph in the Yorkshire Dales? Or buffs just because a weird few think they look cool fell running with their buffs on their heads like pirate hats? Or people who blame inanimate objects and not the people in charge of them ;)
All drone operators have to register and follow the drone code and to fly a drone weighing more than 250g they have to take and pass an exam. And they have to retake and pass it every five years.
That is pretty much the post I was going to put up, with reference to dogs and their owners. I would feel very strongly if a drone was poking about over my house and garden, but it is the person driving it that is the problem.
But as you point out, I have watched and enjoyed many a video that was taken by drones, so it would be double standards to blame all drones. Like everything in life, there are responsible people who consider others and then there are d***heads.
Isn`t DRONING on and on covering the same ground over over, time an time again irritating ;)
Just a thought:rolleyes:
No, No JohnK. For once we ol'farts are onto something especially topical (a head of the curve as I believe the young uns' like to call it).
Look...
MONSTER DRONE SWARMS PLAGUE THE USA!

And, and... look
DRONES ON MARS!

Hang on to yer hats...;)
I imagine the US conspiracy theorists are well into their stride regards the drone swarms. There could be some very entertaining reading if I knew where to look, the worrying part is how many will believe whatever nonsense they come up with.
Well it was quiet, a few beers, good meal, cheese, single malt......and then at 10.30 a message from our local pub "We've got a lost runner with nowhere to go, can you help"?
We guessed right immediately, Dragons Back recce. Bring him over and over he came and we put him in the camper with sleeping bag and water (and a cup of tea, spoilt bugger).
Nice bloke, let down by whoever was meant to pick him up and didn't appear, now worried about them.
Oh well, if you can't help a fell runner in an emergency, then you shouldn't call yourself a fell runner.
And his friend has turned up at the pub ....NOW.....sleeping in his car tonight!
Dragons back recce??? Whi ever heard of such a thing?! Real Bunnies need no recces!
Not sure why they need a recce when they all have them electronic devices to follow. Maybe they want to check out our wonderful scenery before the run, which is understandable.
He left this morning without food, but left a donation in the Missus's butterfly and moth conservation box. Grand 👍.
Though we mustn't be too snooty about electronic devices, remembering the "Who has the map" incident on the A44 🤔.
The van had the map! Oops. Still. We made it through to teifi pools with ne recce!
So I was at a church memorial service today and I saw one of my cousins sitting behind me. I was thinking of shouting over, "hi A, when is the baby due?" Glad I didn't bother because it was cousin H who has put on a few pounds.
Been a while.Hibernation and all that.I now have a proxy runner.
Proxy runner?
Now my daughter runs and I watch!
Get back on it, stage a comeback tour like me.
