There was no mention of a map. I didn't carry one. I don't think it's possible to get lost on the 3 peaks anyway but was going to tear the map out of the programme but then read the list...
Yet the board at the start, which I didn't see until afterwards in a photo, said map..

This deffo says map - which is why I spent a frantic half an hour trying to print the relevant bits of OS map on the kids' computer!

One of our runners put all his drinks and another club members drinks in the first drinks box so by hill inn they had no drinks...with the two drink stops, 2 additional drink stops and people on the hill there is plenty of water to be had. 4 drink stops for a 3-4 hr race is plenty.

I've run quite fast 10ks and even half marathons 2 or 3 weeks after a marathon before, but I think a long fell race 13 days later was never going to be pretty.
My mate did a 2.55 at London and 3.41 at 3 peaks, I'm well envious but great times and he is 55 tomorrow.......happy birthday Dave!

My first three peaks, 5hours 3mins, not good, will have that down to 4.4 max next year, good seeing stolly and merry legs again, it's been a long time. Shot pasy ady taking pics didn't say hi cause i couldn't breath:)
Did well up to pyg (46 mins) got to ribble head in good time, then got a banger of cramp coming off whernie, i had to stop and do a self massage at one point. Got to chapel cut off with 20 mins to spare then the climb up ingle went ok (suprisingly) i lost it on the slog to horton though, legs were failing me. Great day though, cheers to all the marshalls for your time

Good to see you as well mate, passed you going up Whernside, you were going well at that point. Looking on the positive side you got round, well done. Cramp is a b@st@rd when it strikes, stops you dead in your tracks. Nuun's tablets have kept it at bay for me:wink:

Re: Three Peaks Fell Race
Anybody get one of the new t-shirts from this year's race? just wondering what they're like size-wise, i.e. a bit on the small/big size? I'm usually small but sometimes medium...

Re: Three Peaks Fell Race
I am defo entering! 4th year running; love the festival atmoshpere at Horton finish field. The last 3 years around 10 of us have stayed on for few hours, taking in sun, beer, BBQ, and good company. Fingers crossed for another sunny day in the Dales.
As RO for Heptonstall I would like to shamelessly plug it as very useful prep event for the 3Ps.......many seemed to have followed this strategy last year.

Re: Three Peaks Fell Race
Entries open at midnight !!!! I can't wait. Love this race.

Re: Three Peaks Fell Race

It might be a trail race but it doesn't feel like one when you're stumbling and staggering down from Ingleborough like Bambi on Special Brew :closed:

Re: Three Peaks Fell Race

My walshes are fast losing their 'not very studdy in the first place-ness' to be honest so I doubt anyone will see my stud marks DT and Dom I appreciate that the fellsman is also a trail race, being in the mamby pamby Yorkshire Dales n'all and a mere BL :) :), but its jolly, jolly hard.

Edit: I ran my slightly shorter (but muddier) version of the 3 peaks yesterday. Definitely not a day for trail shoes either. garmin 3P

Re: Three Peaks Fell Race
Can't do this in 2012 as injured with plantar fasciitis but did it for 1st time last year. Its a great race with a huge sense of history and occasion behind it - I killed myself with calf cramp to get under 4 hours but it was worth it. Don't listen to the miserable buggers who come along on the forum saying its a glorified trail race - its a classic and definitely one to do before you die.
-
Re: Three Peaks Fell Race
Me and Helen were queueing at the door for this one too .... so tell me, is the T-shirt worth having?? 7.50 seems a bit bloody steep (ha!)

Entered last year but missed it with the same injury as you threerock and gutted to be missing it this year for a wedding.
Good luck with the plantar fascilitis. I still get the odd problem with mine but its a lot better. Good enough to start training for Wasdale anyway.

Yup I'm in - ordered the t-shirt too! You can never have too many race t-shirts for posing in the pub :D - I hope that lass with the jelly cherries (no that's NOT a pun :w00t:!!) is at the top of the waterfall on Inglebugger again, she just about saved my life. They were so good I turned back & got some more! I'll remember the choccy covered mintcake again Trig!

True, and the two birds at the bottom of Whernside as well.

Re: Three Peaks Fell Race
I'm in. First time for me. What's the received wisdom on shoes for this one? Fell shoes or will road shoes cope with the 'trailiness' of the route?

Trail shoes.............trail race:wink:
Seriously though, trail shoes would be best.
