The Chew Valley was last run in 2000 as a memorial race for Frank Sykes, the original organisor of the race, who had died suddenly the previous May.

Roger Devy who is this year's organisor has a full set of results I believe. I shall see what I can do about getting them put on the club website but don't hold your breath, It could take a little while!

There is still snow on the tops, mostly in the groughs. Last week's fresh snow has gone but I would think the old snow will be getting a bit soft now, even though the temperature has been below freezing every night. If you are really lucky it will be soft enough for you to sink through in places into the melt water underneath! Lovely!

Unfortunately, the revised route does go over a little bit of the route the Ravenstones has taken the last 2 years - possibly about half a mile. The other 13 miles is different though so you won't get bored!

Look forward to seeing you all on Sunday. Don't forget your required kit!

Just a quick question (and at the risk of being called a nancyboy road runner) - will there be any drinks en route? Probably not a long enough race for that, but you never know.

Did Tankys Trog yesterday , the snow over all the tops was a right slog, just when you were happy on the top you crashhed through. Feather bed moss will bbe a right laugh.

No Drinks I'm afaraid unless you want to carry your own cup and have a dip in Chew Res as you go by!

This will be my longest fell run to date and I can't wait but what is generally accepted as sufficient food rations in the safety kit?

Thanks Jill, as it happens I was on your wavelength & just bought a 4 pack of mars on my way home!

Is there any constraint on how one runs from the grouse butt N of the road to the Ashway Stone? I've got a few ideas and I'll probably pick the wrong one but is it all open round there?
