Anyone know the best route out from Foel-fras ?
When I walked it last year I followed the route on the Welsh 3000website - over Drum and eventually to the road and car park at Blwch y Ddeufaen. Its then a fair distance down the road to Rowen.
Is there any way to cut the corner and head cross country from Drum to Rowen ?
Thanks
Hope everyones fit and feeling good for Sat
Dont forget the last check point at the car park so you wouldn't be able to cut the corner off
...which leaves the question of whether it's worth leaving the path & making a beeline from Carnedd y Ddelw to the CP. Given the state my legs will be in, I doubt it would be a good idea.
Done my packing, & I'm going to be vegan all day, not just for the race, unless the food at the end isn't stuff I'm up to eating, in which case the pub will beckon. Has anyone investigated whether the beer in the pub is vegan? Camomile tea for me at 3:30 tomorrow morning then: can't stand real tea without milk.
Mind you, I'm not actually sure I'll be on the starting line. It depends on the state of me Farmer Giles. My first aid kit will largely consist of a tube of Anusol if I do start. :w00t:
Ah yes had forgotten that checkpoint. When I walked / ran it last year I did leave the path around Carnedd y Ddelw and headed straight for the CP. Wasn't great underfoot so I'll probably stick with the path.
Just about to pack and then head off to bed for a few hours.
Good luck with the Anusol Splatcher.
too much info Andy but I hope it goes well!
All ready to go I think. Unfortunately feeling a bit too wide awake to get much sleep
Weather looking a bit more promising according to some of the forecasts.
I'll be getting there about half 3 I reckon. If anyone of here fancies saying hello I'll be in a dark blue Toyota Corolla 02 plate.
Good luck all
Great race! Didn't seem like I was out there 10+ hours and despite being up since 03:45 I still don't feel tired - what's that all about? And well done to all those involved organising the event and to the cheer leading team cheering me descend from the top ridge down to Nant Peris on a rather more direct route than I had planned for...

It really was a great day out. 11:14 for me, & I'm happy enough with that. The going was harder than I expected over the Glyders section, & that slowed me down & tired my legs out a lot. There's a lot of scree & a lot of boulders, & the rest of it has a lot of stones sticking up (anyone else tripped on the top of Skiddaw?). The Snowdon section was cold, claggy, & we even had some hail. Crib Goch was dropped from the race due to the weather: I thought I might do it anyway, but my hands were numb despite the gloves so I decided that could wait until another day. The Carnedds were much better running once we'd flogged un Pen Yr Ole Wen - just as well as I was running on empty by then. It stayed windy & cold on the tops, but the clag lifted after Snowdon & the running conditions weren't bad at all, with good views. I didn't know the route at all apart from the top of Snowdon, so it was good exploration for me too. And a finish in a pub beer garden, sitting out in the sun - what more could you want?
A great event organised by as friendly a group of people as you could wish for - thanks to all of them, particularly those on the mountain tops for hours in very cold conditions - stars every one.
Really big thank you to all the race marshals and organizers was a fantastic event and wasn't difficult to be a vegan for the day, will be doing it again next year and would recommend it to every one to make a note for next years event. The best finish out of all events i have done sat in the sun all afternoon lais on the grass with some great company.
