I though I was going to get sick at the top of Sandy Hays (kinder) tonight. Went there specifically to post a time for the Strava Segment. Pretty much a mid pack time which sums me up. Not unhappy with it.

I saw this thread when I got back from my run last night. I really like the sound of this segment idea, so I got my self an account and then upload last nights run .... only to find that someone else had been up one of the (auto?) segments i stumbled across 3 seconds faster than me! If i'd know I was racing I would have been up there a bit quicker :w00t: - next time matey!!
yep, could get a bit addicted to this :p
nice one IainR for bring it to the forums attention.
I think once people realise that you can use this for running the big races will get quite a lot of segments recorded e.g. this one from the Tour of Pendle race http://app.strava.com/segments/1098879 (note most times are from the 2012 race). Will be good to compare times in some of the longer races as it will replace split times for any of the major climbs.
The problem with many classic long fell races especially is the different lines people can take.. so unless people 'correct' their lines to a standardised route from the bottom to the top we could end up with loads of different segments for the same segment.. there's a strava tool you can use to correct your line when your GPS accuracy is off.. so the segment you rode/ran isn't picked up..
For example on philly art museam steps.. the rocky steps.. on strava there is rocky steps -left, rocky steps right and rocky steps central
For most routes this won't be too much of a problem but for example on the peris we'll all take different lines on the first major climb, at least two major options, then another 2 options on garn, at least 3 on glyder fawr, many on the descent, at least 2 on lliwedd, 2 major variants on snowdon but no precise line, 2 on cynghorion..
Routes like pendle seemed less route choice so maybe it will work well for them..
How do I remove my time for a segment without removing the whole ride? Just found a KOM where I put the bike in the car after a ride without switching off the Garmin, so I shot up at 70mph!
Found it! There is the function to crop a ride. Just don't ask me exactly where it was as I'm still trying to get my head round navigating found the site.
I'm really not loving strava. It seems more set up for cycling really and the segment thing is mainly only helping me race against myself. Mind you I do like some of the graphs so its not all bad :)
Gutted!
Just uploaded some of my runs from when I was up in the Lakes a few weeks back... found I am the 2nd Fastest up Skiddaw, only 10 seconds off KOM!!
This is addictive.
But I did knock a certain Phil Winskill off the top on the 'Almond Garth Climb'!! KOM!!!!!!!
