Andrew, it did register with me at the time, BUT what with the emotions of the service and the banter at the "do" afterwards, I'm blowed if I can recall which Beatles song it was.
I've taken a lot of positives from the the service, Luv Shack's poem and particularly the poem of Amanda's on the order of service; but I still feel inadequate to post anything meaningful on any of these threads.
Darren really was one of the best.
Ian.
I went to see one of my Derbyshire customers yesterday. He lives in Ilkeston (a couple of streets from where Darren lived) and knew about Darren's passing. I've not known this guy very long but we have connections in that we have many mutual friends and he runs a small plant which is one of the very last remaining outposts of a trade that used to employ thousands of people in the East Midlands; the trade I was employed in on leaving school. He sounds incredibly like Darren and it was great if bittersweet to see him yesterday
Good memories DT.
i recieved my fellrunner mag today and saw the article about Daz H such sad news and a terrible loss , my heartfelt condolesences to his family and freinds , i only met him once and had a couple of chats on forum and he seemed a really genuine bloke i hope he sleeps well.
Took me by surprise, the article, this morning on the train. Bit of an emotional moment!
A fitting long term tribute to Daz?, resulted in a lot of discussions and suggestions tonight at the AGM
I was sorting photos out on my phone and found this one from edale skyline earlier in the year.
I'm not a reader of blogs...where to start...and where to find another hour in the day! So it was a genuine surprise and deep pleasure to read the fabulous selection from Daz's blog that was printed in the fell runner in lieu of a formal obituary. To all those involved in this choice, I take my hat off to you for your judgement, perspicacity and emotional intelligence. Not only was it, by a million miles, the best evocation of what it is like to run a fell race, it also leaves the reader in no doubt about what a smashing bloke Daz was. A great testimony. Thank you.
just noticed what I can only assume is a tribute to DazH on the spine of the latest edition of Fellrunner. quality touch.
Oh yes! (I had to go and look).
I was at Team training last night and I thought I would give you an update on what was happening with the money you all donated to Woodhead in Darren's name.
First of all the team are very grateful for the generosity shown by his friends. We wanted to make the best of your donations and to make it relevant.
Both our team vehicles are classed as ambulances and therefore carry defibs. These are portable to a point. They are similar to those in cinemas, stations etc but are impractical to take on the hill as they are too heavy and bulky. To be effective defibs need to be used quickly after heart attack and so we really need to carry them in our packs to make sure they are available when required.
With this in mind, the first items we have chosen are two portable mountain AED's. These are automated external defibrillators. They pack to the size of a can of coke and can be carried anywhere. They will be invaluable when we are marshalling fell races and attending other incidents.
There is some money still to be spent and I will let you know what this will be spent on in due course.
daz h: gone a year now but not forgotten
How quickly a year has gone :(
OHW, strangely in this case it hasn't gone quickly for me. So much has happened over the past year and so many things have caused me to think of Daz, it seems a long time. It's probably linked to the number of local fell races I've done where I might have seen him and always thought about him. Does anyone else feel this way?
I can't believe it's nearly two years since Daz was taken from us. He's still missed by many I'm sure.
A couple of days after he died I went for a long run over the wild hills at the end of the Derwent valley on a bright clear morning to reflect.
I did a similar run last year in similar conditions. Today I went out for a random run and for some reason I ended up in the same wild spot with out any thought to the route or the date. It was only on the run down off Barrow stones that I realised the significance.
I thought about daz yesterday (as I often do). We met a couple in Devon who were judging by their accents very clearly from close to "home"
RIP Mate
2 years to the day and I still miss you.
I've been to Bramcote crematorium today and very quickly realised the chapel was the one used for daz's service. The guy conducting affairs was the same one too. RIP Darren and RIP Chris - you would have been very proud of your son today
Not sure if it's this thread being resurrected, or the Daz H race a few weeks back, but there's been a small flurry of donations to the Just Giving pages for Daz - thank you.

It would have been Darrens Birthday today....
Still miss his smile at races....
thanks for pointing this out Ian, with Eccles Pike tonight I'm reminded of a hell of a duel we had at the same race in 2011. Still miss seeing him and chatting at races.
Hi Emma
Thank you for sharing.
I'd forgotten about Neil's blog so thanks from me. Nice to see some sadly now infrequent forumites posting too
If I'm correct the last time I saw daz was in the NT campsite toilets less than an hour before you took this fantastic photograph wharfee. Please get out soon and take us some more and share them. Cobwebs in the coalshed. Foxes, owls, mice or pigeons. Backmarkers, mid-packers, forumites or legends. Doesn't matter . . .
daz h RIP - six years today
