Extensive and persistent hill fog down to valley level throughout the day, becoming more patchy and broken only by the very end of the day.
Wind: Northeasterly 25mph gusting 35mph, turning southeasterly and easing to 15mph gusting 25mph in the afternoon.
Temperature: 5 degrees at 900m.

Re: BG Attempt 17/18th May 201
Keep it steady Daz. I'll be waiting at Wasdale with Steve. You just have to concern yourself with putting one foot in front of the other. You have done all the training and have the experience.

Re: BG Attempt 17/18th May 201
Good luck Daz and make sure you nail those compass bearings in the hill fog!

Re: BG Attempt 17/18th May 201
Owen from our club (KCAC) is going at midnight tonight. He's worked incredibly hard this spring and looks in great shape. Best of luck to him (and Daz)

Re: BG Attempt 17/18th May 201
Good luck Daz (and Owen). Weather looking good at the moment. Tops clear, good viz with high clouds. Will pop along to the moot hall to see you off.

Re: BG Attempt 17/18th May 201
Beautifully clear view across to Blencathra this evening, so any 6 or 7 pm starters will have good conditions for the first few hours at least... tomorrow's OCT might be a damp though.
Good luck to anyone going this weekend, whether for a BG or any other races or challenges.

Re: BG Attempt 17/18th May 201
Word from Martyn Price is that Daz set off looking a bit nervous but on time at 6-15pm. Top slopes of Skiddaw are visible from Keswick

Re: BG Attempt 17/18th May 201
Yes he got off ok and weathers perfect with tops all clear, he was preceded by the trail magazine contingency doing a round 15 mins in front of him

What's the story with Trail magazine?
-
Re: BG Attempt 17/18th May 201
The editor Claire Maxtred is attempting a round, her progress can be tracked http://maps.opentracking.co.uk/maxted13.cfm?n=1

Re: BG Attempt 17/18th May 201
Due to injury I have had to drop out of supporting Daz tonight totally gutted!!!!! Looks like I might be out for a week or two.
Looking at the Trail Magazine tracking, has she made the top of Great Calva, when I recced it last year I thought they were two piles of stones but the one further to the west is the true summit, has she only gone to the first pile of stones? Or am I wrong?

Re: BG Attempt 17/18th May 201
Phew for the Trail Mag Posse!!! And bad luck Tahr!! I'm hoping to pop over to Honister to at least cheer him through. I might get my running/walking kit on, but weather is supposed to be pretty poor. Plus I'll be off night shift so it'll be close getting there on time if I'm going to get a bit of a kip before heading down.

OK mate you showed me the right one, when I went on my own I got the wrong one, hence my concern.
That-Fjell-guy, I have been icing and resting and at the phyiso all week desperately hoping I would be fit for this weekend, I tried to run tonight after work but I couldn’t do 500 yards without a lot of pain, back at the phyiso on Monday. That’s 8 weeks now with injuries now and I recon this will keep me out for a couple of weeks.

Re: BG Attempt 17/18th May 201
Been 'stuck' on Raise for 20 minutes! Hope its a poor signal not something more ominous!? Its raining here on the Solway but its only moderate/steady at the moment, and no fog, but I guess that's hill fog that was predicted!
-
Re: BG Attempt 17/18th May 201
Phew!! 00:45(?) Helvellyn :)
Stressful this tracker watching!!
-
Re: BG Attempt 17/18th May 201
Actually 00:53 Helvellyn. Its clever the way the tracker retraces the route several minutes afterwards when its been straight-lining due to lost signal.
-
Re: BG Attempt 17/18th May 201
Well it pissing down alright here at dunmail :(

Re: BG Attempt 17/18th May 201
Think they had a rough time with wind and rain and leg 3 looks like it'll be tough too. The sky dropping by the hour it seems but the rains eased a bit so not all bad :)
-
Re: BG Attempt 17/18th May 201
Don't suppose we'll hear more until 11:00ish!? Keep on it Daz!!
-
Re: BG Attempt 17/18th May 201
Hes doing well just up against weather just dropping into wasdale before signal goes it looks grim weatherwise can't see scafells but its still doable
-
Re: BG Attempt 17/18th May 201
Cheers 'Old Un'. The tracker for Claire Maxted seems to have completely stopped, or at least it has for me! I'm sure if Daz can keep moving he has a chance!
-
Re: BG Attempt 17/18th May 201
Currently on Bowfell. Interesting that she went round by Langdale Combe rather than the direct route.
-
Re: BG Attempt 17/18th May 201
Any news on how leg 3 times are. waiting for clubmate at dunmail now. still raining but clag seems to be rising.
