I wore the 270's with soft compound sole. It was wet and the grip on both rock and grass was good.
Roclites would not have provided the same grip.
I was happy with my choice and used the same every year I've done the race.

How tight are the cut off times for an out of form plodder ie 1 hr to the halway point, 2hrs to the top ?
Anyone stopping over for the weekend ? Which pubs, eateries do people recommend.
Thanks for the advice gents,
Mud Claw 270s are my normal fell shoes so no problem there, I suggested road shoe because when I reccied it in June I ran up the Pony path in dry conditions and thought I could do this in road shoes, I didn’t follow the race route were you cut the corner and come out just before the Red burn, (do I have that right? this is the first time I have run the race.) So Rocklites or Mudclaws.

I am a mid of the field Fell runner, in SHR races I would just make it into the top half, may be the top 3rd on a good day, I ran the to the top of the Ben with my MM pack from the Visitors centre and back in 3 1/2 hours, but that was my 3rd big day in three days. I hope that gives you some idea of whether you will make the cut off times.

And out of the woodwork appears another BenNever:wink:
Nevis Bar - underneath Nevis Sport, top end of High Street, always a good meeting up point on Friday evening (and Saturday before the prize giving presentation). Good food and beer to set you up. Wharfedale mob'll be there. Follow the quiet, subtle considered mellow tones emanating therefrom..
