'Good on' to the Borrowdale lads trying to stop all this silly and frantic race entry procedure by doing their best to ensure all can enter in the good old fashioned way of 'pen and post'. However it's not worked ~ the rush has still ensued. What can be done in future to stop all this hectic and farcical turn of events?
it's getting bad isn't it,something does need to be done
Why?
Post is far worse than Online entry IMO. At least if it is OLE we would know if we had got in there and then and not had to worry about if we got in now.
It's not the entry system that's the problem it's selecting already hugely popular races for British Championship Races, why not pick some of less popular races. Look at Slioch Horseshoe at the weekend, less than 50 runners, Foel Fras a few weeks before a similar low number.
It'll be interesting to see what happens here. I did hear that it was said that no experienced decent runner would get rejected from Borrowdale, can't remember who said it, or how they categorised that, but it'll be interesting to see.
We entered at 2 am Saturday morning so we'll see..I am working at sea for Durisdeer and doing the UTMB when Dufton is on, so Borrowdale is my 4th race, however getting in the top 50 and getting points is going to be way harder there than the likes of the Mournes Race.
I just think the answer is to not pick already hugely popular races, well at least partially. Surely reducing the number of 'counting' races, as has been discussed will just exacerbate this problem?
Or just pick races that can take unlimited numbers for a one off race. The Anni Waltz did this so well a couple of years ago. Then just ensure a good rotation of races not to stress the local environment.

anyone else heard yet?
Nope not yet
Hey, stop whinging.
The reason it has filled up within a few days is because you lot keep going on about it on the forum. There are plenty of other races to do, why not do Ennerdale or Wasdale if you want to do a classic long Lake District race or the new Lakes Runner race which looks like it will be a toughie. What is with the great rush to do championship races anyway? Lets face it, there are probably only a hundred or so people who can genuinely claim to be interested in championship points, the rest of us don't need to do Borrowdale. There is far too much talking up of one or two races on this forum, particularly the Three Peaks, Borrowdale and The Ben, there are plenty of other equally good (or in the case of the Three Peaks far better) races about.
From what Len told me those that do Borrowdale most years should have no problems getting in so long as they got an entry in pronto. Genuine championship contenders will get in even if they put in a late entry, everyone else who meets the entry requirements will be dealt with on a first come first served basis.
Mind you, I can afford to be smug, I got an acceptance letter on Wednesday, always best to go for hand delivery :D!
