Agree entirely, Jez, that's the attraction of it. It should be kept as simple as possible. The devil is always in the detail, though.

That's true Roy. And after last years strict enforcement of kit requirements I don't blame people for checking on every last detail. Pete Bland did very well last year. I had to buy a balaclava as he'd run out of hats. Never worn it !
I always have a bag of old gear in the car (still forgot my 'magic' racing socks last year, hence the really bad time!).
What are we racing in Roy ? The re-re-re-re-re-re-re-soled Walshes ?
Stubar, bit of shopping with pint in hand sounds like a plan to me !
Just in case anyone's interested, I have put together a virtual fly through of the route on youtube (or the route as best I've been able to plot it having never run it), http://youtu.be/2ZkO6OEGt8w
Cheers
Thanks whoever flagged up the change on PYG. I hadn't noted that - could have been in for a surprise on Sat! Mind you I'm going to be very slow after running most of London Marathon last weekend. My quads are already nice and sore... And if that doesn't get me, then the exercise induced nausea that scuppered my time on Sunday might...
I'm interested by the comments about using GPS. I asked if it was OK to use mine when I first did the race in 2009 and was told it was OK (mainly as a data logger, but average speed does help in judging timings). I ran 2009 and 2010 with it clearly visible on my wrist and attracted no comments. I didn't do 2011 and now wonder if I'll be able to use it this year. I guess I'll ask at registration before using it - the last thing I want to do is anything inappropriate.
Phil, don't worry about it. At least half of the field will have GPS watches on. We're just having an academic discussion.
So many strands!
1. X-Talons
2. Beanie, a rather fetching buff & some water-wings.
3. Anniversary Waltz? Yes - steady.
4. Use a map & compass - Garmins have been known to become temperamental in the rain.....!
5. Can't beat a good recce.
See you there!!
Thanks for the reassurance Rich - I think my nerves are getting the better of me. I'm off work today and tomorrow so have too much time on my hands to over prepare!
I know what you mean, its a strange race this one, really gets the nerves jangling. Even in previous years spectating from the tops I really felt a keen sense of occasion.
And don't forget the waders!! The bog monsters'll be lurking at Whitber Hill :w00t:
Hope they don't flag the slabs off Whernside this year (doesn't mention it), they'll be horrific if wet in Harriers!
I've just driven over the M62 and I'm wondering weather I need my flippers and lifejacket.
Has there ever been a PPP bog snorkelling race :)
Just a tad younger than your good self then Roy !
Here's something to read to take your minds of the worrying! - (a short intro with lots of links to better articles!)
I'm racing Saturday too.....so see you all there........

I was going to go and support my fell running fella but he has had to pull out due to injury. I was taking my road bike and was going to cycle to points where he crosses roads to support. Might be an idea if the field is too boggy to move cars or ....... As my mate is going to do, sit in the pub till it's done and have her fella a drink waiting ;-)
PS Everyone racing, supporting or marshalling have a great day, keep safe, hope you meet the times you want. Above all, have loads of fun :-) x
Nice video/fly through here to put you all in the mood for tomorrow:

Hi, Does anyone know what time the car parking field is likely to open? Rather than setting off really early in the morning I was thinking of travelling late tonight and sleeping in the car which would be better off the road and in the car park.
Rich
RichK thanks for the info, I'll bring some wellies ready to help with the pushing and shoving of cars at the end.
The fields in Horton could be very soggy indeed.
However, I'm probably a bit more worried about the river crossing. I did it last summer after it had been wet and it wasn't easy, and there had been a lot less rain than there has been in the last few weeks!
Can anyone recommend some wellies with good grip and a bit of medial support??? :w00t:
I'm sure Inov-8 are working on it Dom !!
Try these:

Just finished the 1st of my traditional 2 pre race meals - wonder what me mam has cooking.Have I done enough training ? What shoes to wear ? Which Cd's for the journey ?
See you all in the morning.
Manhar, nice one....what cd's for the journey !! I have an Out CD & an in CD !! Bit sad, but it works for me ! Usually something poignant on the way back, like Keane, Under The Iron Sea.
Damn! I wish I was doing this...or with the weather, maybe this is a good year to miss!!!! Next year for defo!! Good luck all thats doing it, chill, enjoy and, if possible, take in the views!! :)
Best of luck everyone, hope you all enjoy and have a good run :)
Me and little Biara have bought the jelly babies for runners, so will hopefully see people after Ribblehead viaduct before Whernside (or that is the plan). Just wish I was doing it.....
