At the last minute I changed my shoe choice to Mudclaw 333s - no regrets; Scottish rocks are rough-surfaced and nowhere near as slippery when wet as their Lakeland equivalent.
legs are sore today!
I really enjoyed my first Ben race, thanks for the advice about foot wear from the forum members on here, I too went for Mudclaws and never regretted it once, I think most runners had mudclaws on. I ran as well as I could have expected too, but not as well as I would have liked.:o
There was a rumour going round at the finished that one lad had gone over and broke his leg, I know when I was coming off the top that the Mountain Rescue had a chap on a stretcher, if it was a race competitor he must have been in the leading pack. Latter the search and rescue helicopter was up the glen.
Hope the bloke is OK, does anybody know if it was a Runner?

Pennine came 6th in the Men's team result. Well done Daz, Steve and Andy and all Pennini's today, really good results all round. And thanks to Daz for the encouragement coming down the road. What a fantastic race, my favourite I think. Sorry I couldn't stick around at the end, I had a date with a whiskey at the Claichaig!!

What a fantastic race! My 1st time at the Ben and loved every minute of it, even the bits where it bloody hurt! Felt strong on the climb and started to descend well but by the time I got to the grassy bank my quads were starting to complain... a lot! Climbing back out of Red Burn cramp kicked in and it seemed like a long way home from there! Finished with a smile (/grimmace) on my face in 2:14 and as long as I get a place I'll be back next year to try and get closer to 2hrs!
Well done everyone!
