Re: Pennine Bridleway Relay
Hi Lefty
weather forecast is for it to be very cold midweek, but hopefully thaw a bit by weekend, so fingers crossed...
btw what is the exact situation wrt parking near Callis Bridge - you said you had secured some parking - will this be enough for all teams? if not, where will any overflow be directed to park instead? have you abandoned the idea of a shuttle minibus to/from Hebden Bridge?

Re: Pennine Bridleway Relay
Ran leg 4 on Sat morning ..very tricky in places ..the first section where you go between the 2 walls was unrunnable being like a ice rink..left my car half way up calderdale road as it was getting too dodgy...it was a beautiful day though once out on the route.
Hard frost forecast this week down to -8!

Re: Pennine Bridleway Relay
I understand there is to be an inspection of the route on Saturday morning and decision made as to the race going ahead or not.

No the forecast reads well, the sunlight during the day should do the trick as there is no rain due there should be little if any water/ice running off the hills, i imagine it might have a chance of being very dry but very cold, hopefully the snow holds off till after the race finishes.

Fingers crossed indeed. I've not done the PBW before - I've been right looking forward to it.

Re: Pennine Bridleway Relay
We have now secured parking at Callis Bridge ( at a cost ) at the old Menzolit site just down the road so it should be ok providing we don't get too spectators going there.
Re: Pennine Bridleway Relay
As of Monday pm the route is unsafe for the race to go ahead, lots of hard water ice despite the afternoon sun. Going to go out for a run on part of the route this afternoon to check it out again. Snow is mostly ok it's the ice which is frightening !
I emailed out all of the club contacts last night to advise them that we will make an inspection on sections of the route early on Saturday morning and will email them all our findings at 10.00 am. I will also post details on the event website and here on this forum. Whatever the outcome I hope that everyone understands our obligations as organisers with regard to safety. We have already had 2 broken legs on this race in the past which has been personally upsetting. If anyone has up to date reports on the route condition please contact me at [email protected]
Re: Pennine Bridleway Relay
You're race your call, i am sure what ever you decide is right--- those broken bits are very annoying, fingers crossed though

I think we all understand and I would hate a casualty such as that as a RO, but I think you should be very pleased with you record. The conditions at that time of year can be severe and to have 2 serious accidents from the 1,000s of competitors you have had probably stacks up very well compared to some road races.
There was a lady in a serious accident around 2005 in the 12 stage at Heaton Park and I think she suffered a broken leg.
So whatever you decide you will have the sports support I'm sure.
