Right folks, it's nearly race day. The forecast is currently all over the place - depending on which forecast you look at it may be sunny, it may rain, Friday may have snow, it may not. Helpful  I will keep you posted if there is any risk of cancellation - the problem will be if snow makes the roads impassable or parking impossible. Cold is not a barrier in itself, and the forecasts do seem to agree that it will be cold. So...
BRING YOUR KIT!!
Correct Map, Compass, Whistle, Hat, Gloves and emergency food.
Full body cover: Your top must be waterproof and windproof - not pertex. Your trousers may be windproof only (ie not waterproof) if you wish, however this is not advised if the conditions are poor.
There will be kit checks. I will also call out some random numbers on the start line. If you are found not to have the correct kit you will be embarrassed and we will start the race without you while you go and get the correct kit/drive home with your tail between your legs.
Please also use your common sense. I do not expect to see anyone on the start line in only their club vest and short shorts. An extra layer under your club vest is expected, and may be mandatory if the weather is particularly poor.
It will also be icy. Expect it to be icy, watch where you put your feet, and if you're not comfortable with the ice, then don't run. There are plenty of opportunities to run on the grass/moor along the edges of paths if you don't like the look of a particular stretch of path. This is a winter event and has been run in snow and ice before. You're not letting anyone down if you don't run, you just have to make the call about the risks you're prepared to take yourself.
Officialdom over. Bring along your readies for kit from reasonably priced kit supplier, and of course beer from the bar (open at the end of the race only for obvious reasons :) ). And of course enjoy your well earned soup, bread and cake too. And try and have fun!
