Is the Kinder Dozen the same date as The Glorious Twelfth?
It's a bit like that, but doesn't have the guns and the killing. The Dozen also involves a bit more distance and climb.:)
Did this today with Kat in the Hat as training for her BG.
We got round in 7-12, Kate's gps said 22.5 and a bit miles and my altimeter reckons there was 9820 feet of climbing.
It was pretty warm, well what did we expect on mid-summers day !
I am now a bright red faced sunburnt plodder...
Will probly have another go with a lighter pack and armed with a bit of knowledge of the route - we had to consult the map and compass a lot!
Sub 7 is quite possible, but sub 6 is going some - it probably helps if you have ankles of steel and are as fearless going downhill as Geoffrey B is!
I can't thnk of a better reason:DQuote:

Purple plodder has beaten me to it - however, a great day out despite the muggy heat and a little lack of water on my part. I was happy with our time given that this was on-sight and no reccying (although between us there's a fair bit of local knowledge! - not as much as Geoff thou' ;-)). Sub 7 would be very do-able.
It would be much easier either earlier or later in the year when the bracken is low. The worst parts yesterday where through knee deep or deeper bracken.
I'm still none the wiser as to how Geoff did 5:45! Absolutely flying...
Kat
Hi Kat - sounds like we swapped locations for the weekend, as I was at Wasdale Head last Friday!
Well Done on the Dozen! (and to Purple Plodder!)
Have you set a date for your BG?
If I'm free I'd be more than willing to help... :)
Yesterday did 7 ascents following yje dozen route from Edale YHA up Jaggers Clough and then worked clock wise to kinder Low. I wasnt sure on a couple particlarly the first and second. On the first up to Nether Moor I followed Jaggers Clough too far I think and had to cut back down to find NM summit. I wonder if I should have gone straight up the hill side from the bottom of JC and avoided JC altogether? Is there a trod up to NM? The second ascent to druids is OK and decent into Ollerbrook OK, but I wasnt sure of best route up Ringing Roger? I folloed a good path westwrds out of Oller Brook and soon found my self at the normal Edale route to RR. Again is there a more diredt route and any trods?
From GK summit I made a bee line to Crowden bank/stream on steep grass and lots of contouring. Is the any trod here? Weather by then was terrible, whiteout conditions so couldnt see a better route. Any one have any advice which would ne much appreciated.
thanks
Simon
