I think the practical difficulty for ROs might be more to do with not being able to be confident that they will have sufficient marshals/helpers available. And some registration venues might not want a bunch of sweaty runners coming in and out. The circuit training class I attend takes place in the local primary school - I'm not sure if its going ahead or if they want us to play outside for the time being. I'm sure the majority of us as runners would be happy to turn up at races regardless and carry on more or less as normal. Must be safer running around the hills than being in an office/pub/cinema/supermarket.

The Marshall's tend to be the older end in distance races so I would say that's it's a sensible decision.

Indeed Staggs. The government are doing what is best for them. We have to look after number one. In this regard there's a gossip journalist from a popular newspaper who for years has promoted the virtues of altruism and condemned the evil of selfishness. Well recently this person spent £550 panic buying groceries. :D

At least some good has come out of all this then!

Problem is we just don't know yet. We only have evidence from the infection stats we have seen elsewhere and although it does not look anywhere near as transmissive as measles. There may well be a seasonal element to it too so another peak later in the year is also a possibility.

Reducing the load on essential services such as the NHS now seems like a good option. I'm not convinced closing schools is a good idea. At my wife's primary, they are at least forcing the kids to wash hands regularly but kids will no doubt socialise outside of school anyway and a lot of childcare is going to be in the hands of the elderly.
Shutting colleges and unis may be a more sensible option though.

Trying to get home from Madeira, holiday all shut down today and told to take any flight out before flights shut down and we are stuck here indefinitely - at least it is virus free here!
Managed a flight to Manchester tomorrow night, but our car is in Bristol so have to get home from Manchester somehow without catching it :(.
I've been coughing for 2 weeks from a cold, very self conscious about it and also hearing other people coughing. It is quite normal at this time of year with winter bugs, but who can tell in this environment.

People are looking at CV only through a lens of the virus or health service.

We cannot shut down the wider economy too, or the fake food and loo roll queues, based on idiots, will become very real if the means to manufacture distribute and sell are shut down too.

Shutting schools is crazy on that holistic view, because it will force many parents in the more critical parts of the economy to stay home look after kids, interrupting supply and the kids will Interact anyway so will not reduce infection.

It will also bankrupt many outside the public sector, who do not get paid unless they work.

I also think many have or have been exposed to cv that don’t realise it because symptoms can be mild. So I think infection numbers are way underestimated, time will tell.

I am getting fed up of the many so called "experts" that are being trawled across our TV screens the majority of which are telling us the bleedin obvious!
Many are also pushing the work from home line. That is fine for the media, civil service and BBC type luvvies who do not do a real job and are living in their cosy bubbles.

Real people doing the real jobs that keep the show on the road like nurses, delivery drivers, shop staff, teachers, police officers, care workers, to name but a few cannot work from home.

When this is over I would like to think that there will be an appraisal of which sections of the workforce dug us out of the hole and in what esteem they will be seen in future and valued accordingly.

I shan't be holding my breath though!

Madeira is interesting in that no recorded cases yet, though who knows. Obviously dawned on them the seriousness of the problem in that 55% of the population are retired (older, figures I was told and not checked) and only a small island. So they are shutting things down fast now, anyone coming in has to isolate for 2 weeks.
Unfortunately with no planes bringing visitors in, there are no planes going out, hence we are all trying to get a flight asap whilst we can.
The island only has tourism and they will suffer like everyone, though Ronaldo is apparently back in his villa in lockdown, safe and sound.
