any photos anywhere? sure I saw a couple of people out snapping...
yep, i'm blaming the bogs too... course was a good 500 yards shorter this year as well
Just a quick smile and nod to Des and team for today, fabulous race, great atmosphere, half decent squash!
Great race today in perfect conditions. Must mention mrs steady fast for finishing 3rd lady on her fell race debut. She's made up and seems to think fell running is easy now! Big thanks to des and his team of helpers.
thanks to Des and crew, always enjoy running this great route but never raced it before. weather was spot on, not sure if I'll ever cover the route faster that yesterday, bogs needed feeding with water not shoes this year!
Speedy results service from Des.
Race date 20th August 2017 - Love resurrecting these old threads rather than start a new one. Few photos here from yesterdays Crowden Horseshoe which this year was a Derbyshire Championships Race. Buxton AC took the Derbyshire Champions Team Gold. MrRTS race 31 of 50@50 with 50,000 meters total ascent. Super running everyone. Brilliant organisation by Des and Co. He even sorted a traffic gap to get the runners to the race, although not all the workmen got the Memo. Maybe Buxton AC threw a bribe in there haha. Still a strong field set off for this super race. Lots of bog swimming by the look of most of the runners at the end. Anyone coming down with clean legs there needs to be a Stewards Inquiry to see if they did the route ;-) Keep on running everyone and stay safe :-) I'll put them up on fb later but like to put the on the FRA forum 1st.

Thank you to the super organisers, marshals, supporters and runners. Brilliant race. Nigel is raising money for the Thomas Theyer Foundation. No obligation but if you wish to make a small donation from as little as £2 please follow this link -
https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Nigel-Jeff Thomas was a keen fell runner who ran for Buxton AC. He died in 2013 just a month after his 18th birthday when falling on Parkhouse hill whilst out on a training run. Thomas had ADHD and running helped him cope with his condition. The Foundation aims to bring outdoor activities to all kids with additional needs and difficult life circumstances. A brilliant cause.
Thank you so much. If anyone wants the high quality original please give us a shout noting the file name bottom left. Original has none of the writing on. Keep on running and stay safe everyone :-)
Great set of photos, first time doing that race. Ended up to my groin in the peat at one point. On my todo again list.
Any results emerged yet?
Results went up on Facebook on the Peak District fell races site today.
Anyone look on the results page?

Just entered this years race which is on Sun 23rd August. Thank goodness for "can do" people like Des Gibbons.
It's great news... would like to enter but should be racing at Llangollen that day...
Some of the comments regarding this race on facebook are gold...! Asking the organiser for a gpx trail, do you need a compass, and the always popular "what kit do you have to carry"
Good luck Llani...
I'm in too. The one and only time I ran this was in Aug 2014. Fingers crossed it actually goes ahead.
Des Gibbons, what a race organiser. Last one of his I did was James's Thorn on 1st March.
Will see folk there - was excited to see this one is back on.
Just need to message him to find out if a buff is a hat
An e-mail informs me that it has been postponed due to landowner concerns over the Covid spike in Greater Manchester.
A new provisional date set for 6th September.
It's not surprising, predictable in fact.
That first weekend in September, which would have been the occasion of the Bullock Smithy Hike, seems to be experiencing high demand for rescheduling. The Northants Ultra "Shires and Spires" is also on Sunday 6th.
That weekend is also hopefully going to see the running of the Gladstone Nine (9 mile race on the northern Carneddau), and potentially the Stretton Skyline (although DaveMole suggests in another thread that this is rather unlikely).
Sadly not going ahead on the 6th now although it seems Des is still aiming to organise one for 2020 sometime.
We've been offered a place in the rescheduled race if it happens, or can switch to next year's race or switch to Padfield Plum fair instead on the 27th, which seems to be sure to go ahead.
Des is a bloody hero.
Alas the fell race is all that survives of the "Plum Fair". The last fair was held in 2013. I just read about why the fair had that name it is quite interesting.

Does anyone know what's going on with the race on 21/7/21? Is it on?
I saw a post a few weeks ago on the Fell Running UK Facebook page asking the same thing. Des confirmed it will go ahead on 21st August.
Found it here:

Facebook? That tired old relic again?
Well, one will need to pre enter, won't one. I've posted asking for details of how to enter, as Des isn't answering the phone at the moment.
This is looking like a Derbyshire stitch-up to me. It's a plot to keep Yorkshire runners away from the spoils. All this means is that the bogs are going to be double-watered when Gt Whernside is a champs race again. Unless you know the secret Wharfedale route you'll be drowned and lost forever.
Some close racing between a couple of forumites towards the front of this today!
Results are up on the FRUK face-slap page. Des has posted a link.
Thinking of coming down for this again, though i can't believe i was 10th last time. EOD.
Or you can enter in advance to save a whole pound. :)

I'll be there, as will a load of other Glossopdale Harriers (it's in our Club champs this year). I look forward to seeing you, Luke. 10th place is good going. Keeping on that numerical theme, it's ten years since I last ran it and I recall it being tough back in 2014, especially the run up the Pennine Way from Crowden. Now I only have the energy to walk it.
See you there Nick. The slog up to the turn along the flags is pretty monotonous, but views may be good. I recall there only being one major climb on the route, about a quarter mile after the start which is quite flat and fast.
I might pre enter, though it's not my style really, given my injury troubles.
Good to see you before the start, Luke. I see in the results you didn't do too badly at all. They have you down as unattached, though? How much queueing did you have to do at that first stile? Those of us towards the back were queueing for minutes on end.
I finished just under 14 minutes slower than in 2014 but still well under my worst-case prediction of 2 hours, so got to be happy with that. These days, as well as not being able to run steep uphills, I struggle with technical trods that are riddled with rocky trip hazards. Add a downhill to the mix and it's even worse. Walking is the only safe way.
Not too much queueing, thankfully. I got started on by some bloke from the campsite accusing me of trying to use his bogs, when all i was doing was making my way to the public bogs. A load of lollygaggers looking on started sounding off about how rude i was. I told Des to ban me if it puts the race in jeopardy next time. Overall i had a rubbish day; the car park marshal weighed in and told me i'd got the race cancelled for next year by having this argument with the bog cleaner, so i had that on my conscience all the way round.
I don't really like them either, but they slow people to a crawl and i can take a lot of time out of them under those circumstances. Some lad from CVFR put about 4mins into me on the way up, but the nasty stuff slowed him so much i overtook him on the last, worst rocky drop and finished in front of him.
Mr B that's galling getting accused of something you weren't going to do. Nice work with the technical descending. I like a good overtaking story like that. I lost what technical running skills I had with the Meniere's Disease, which has thankfully burnt itself out now but has destroyed my right inner ear, leaving me permanently deaf and dizzy to a greater or lesser degree. I'm unsteady on the old pins nowadays. :(
