Bracken, plus the trods are hard to find later. Better runners could manage it at other times but I know my limitations :( - needs to be fairly optimal if I'm to complete it.

Thanks Iain. Re the Scots - 3 (out of 5!!) got round. http://forum.fellrunner.org.uk/showt...668#post334668 Maybe that diet of deep fried Mars bars helps :D
Two of us are planning on running the Aran Fawddwy Ridge section and next bit through to the car park before Cadair on Monday. The more the merrier. Will recheck this thread on Sunday to see if there are any takers.
Sam.
Yo Sam, Could hook up with you buddy, I did Maesglase on Thursday. It's a section that Yannis wanted to be in the round but could,nt fit it in (I think). Think you would need to get to Penybrynfforchog with a good 4hrs in the bank to fit that section in, It's a monster!!!!! especially after doing the rest of it!!
Where were you thinking of starting up to Fawddwy, from near the old creamery on the A494?? That's the way the round goes after scooting over from Rhobell.
Let me know your plans buddy.
Let us know your start time etc. Just a chance I may come up and meet you on the Aran tops somewhere, I come up from Cwm Cywarch. I won't attempt to run far with you as not fit enough yet, but could show you the forestry shortcut after Glasgwm if you don't know it?
Have to see what plans the Missus has for Monday before I commit (and the weather).
hi Gafr
I`m thinking of doing something tomorrow(the missus is going shopping)was thinking of going to CYB for a MTB ride but this run sounds like a good one ,i havent done that much in that area so i`d love to come along for the run,if that would be ok?what times the kick off and where from?
my contact details are Dylan 07917173815 send me a txt or e-mail me
cheers
Iawn chief.
Aye no probs. Sambo's the main man so just waiting for his word regards location, meet up time etc.
Not sure how much he plans on doing. If he does Aran, Dyfi and Cader it's going to be around 20+ I think
By the way it's Monday he's planning on running, because he's cheking this thread on Sunday.
Right then, looks like it could be quite a social one. My plan is to meet up at the car park at the start of the Cadair Section, the one on the A487. Then all pile into half the cars and drive to the point where you come off Dduallt. Start the run from here, up over the Aran Fawddwy ridge, cross over the A470 and continue with the next section back to the other half of the cars at the first parking spot. Then those who haven't had their fill can go up the Cadair section as far as they like and back again.
Probably best to get an early start, since there's nay too much light about these days. How about (deep breath in) meeting at 0715 at the A487 Cadair Car Park (grid ref 753 126 ish - sorry, only on-line map to hand). That way we should be running by 8am.
Best bring headtorches - Kat and I got well and truely benighted yesterday after starting out at 1230!
I'll bring a 4 person group shelter in case things go unexpectedly.
Text or call me to let me know who's in on: oh triple seven eight two, zero five nine, double one four.
See you tomorrow bright and early, Sam.:w00t:
sorry, gave you the wrong number. It's oh triple seven two, zero five nine, double one four. [ie no eight in there]
Hi Sam,
i was really up for this but unfortunatly i cant make it on the monday, looks like a good run a bit gutted i cant make it.never mind i`ll catch up with you lot again.
enjoy the run
and a happy new year to you all
I'm not in either (though I would only be up there to say 'hello'), maybe next time - have a great day, it looks good.
Awsome run today of the Aran and Dyfi forest sections of the round. From the Old Creamery on the A494 up to Benllyn. The running then all the way to top of Talyllyn pass was very fast and easy due to no overgrowth, and frozen ground, any snow that was left was frozen and were able to run on.
Really made us think that a winter attempt, in this sort of weather with a full moon would be a better option.
It was clear and the whole round was vizible, great stuff.
On the Garmin 205, I got 17.4 mile and 6788ft from start to finish.
The only thing was, we were toying with the idea of the forestry short cut after Glasgwm to Pen y Brynfforchog, but it has now been clearfelled and is just a log and brash field like the section between Dduallt and Rhobell.
All in all a very good day with Sam and Kat.
Iawn Ifan,Sam,Kat
sounded great,gutted i could`nt make it.next time i hope i can make it.
most probs see you all at a race some time in the year
hwyl
Nearly a year since the last post on here, and I'm not aware of any attempts in 2011 (not that I've been on the scene at all this year). I know there was talk of a some having a crack at it this summer, but I take it nothing materialised?
So, has anyone put it in the calendar for 2012? Surely someone will try to step up from the more popular rounds and crack this little gem in Mid-Wales? It is becoming the "forgotten round" with hardly a mention of it on here.
Hopefully, with retirement, 2012 will see me enjoying better health and back to some kind of injury free running, so I maybe able to help out - but" injury free" may be wishfull thinking, we'll see.
How may people have done the BG, Ramsay, PBR and Meirionnydd ? Can't be many (1 or 2?)
As far as I know, Colin Donnelly competed it solo some years ago but it took him over 24 hours - he went wrong in the woods on the way down to Barmouth. Yiannis
So. It's been a while now since any activity here!! So i thought i'd get the ball rolling......... for my attempt for the last weekend of May:confused:!! Yes, i'm planning to have a bash at it.:) I've supported a couple of attempts by the mighty RobW, which has got me hooked. I had a good day recceing parts of the Arenigs to Arans last Sunday?? Which to be honest, has got be to the roughest and toughest terrain around. Still not quite sure of the route here, but will obviously get up there again for some better options(I doubt if there are!!) in the near future. I'm not the best at organising things, but already have the mighty "Team Wynn" as support, but if you're free that weekend and want to support me in my attempt, then i'll be most welcome!
Now i must go and track that RobW down for some more route details!!!! "Rob, are you there?" Your route cards were fab, but i still need to ask a few more questions???
Always happy on the hills! Well, most the time anyway!!
Hi Yannis. Nice to hear from you. Hope you're both keeping well. Are you back in this country now then? I'd love to pm you...if i knew what 'pm' meant!!!!I guess it's not just getting in touch at night!! Haha! I was going to email you(and a few others) anyway with some questions, and to let them know my plans of attempting your amazing round. Don't have time right know, but will do it in the next few days. Nice to hear from you, and sorry to have missed you at Wynn and Steve's reunion bash!!
Always happy on the hills, however big or small!
pm: just click my username above and follow instructions to send me a 'private message'.
Best to send me an email: [email protected]
I was not at Steve/Wynn's do. Yiannis
Carwyn, nice to read that you are on for the Meiri, Wynnie has got me roped in for support duties. I will give you a feed at the top of the Roman Steps ( maybe Moley will be up for that too, as on RobW's ) and maybe I'll tag along for a spot of bag carrying on one of the later legs .... if you've slowed down a bit!! Looking forward to paying another visit to a very special part of "The Land of My Fathers"
Are you still on for a BG towards the end of April?
IIRC Colin 'phoned Yiannis for some route details, to which Yiannis offered to e-mail him the full Meirionydd Encyclopedia; Colin's retort, "No thanks, I'm setting off in 20 minutes!" ( or words to that effect ).
Yiannis, Carwyn was at "TheSurvivors' Do" .... hence his reference to missing you!
Ian.
Cheers Mr Roberts.
BG on for the 14th of April, which i need to speak to Wynn about to see if i need to ask for other supporters?
Yes, will email you Yiannis for some more hints!!! Trouble is.....it's supper time??
Always happy on't 'ills!!!
Are you reading your emails or am I in your spam filter :)
Thats April and May taking care of what are you doing in June? :D
Caz, good to talk, my shed is up now . Keep putting the miles in and watch out for those frogs :w00t:.
Bill- No, email came through and have just read it. Thanks for that. Yes. Not sure what to do in June yet?? Sleep maybe?
Moley- Yes good to speak to you the other day. Will give you a ring soon to pop up anyway. Glad you've got your shed sorted. Planning on growing your courgettes this year??
The frogs that Moley mentions are currently in their thousands on the wilderness between Moel Llyfnallt and Dduallt!!!! Crazy frogs!!
I'm planning on a couple of days up there, during the week of the the 26-30th of March, if anyones up for a run out!! I've got to take Annual leave before the end of the month, which is a real shame!!!! Not!! If no ones able to come out then i might just do a bit of wild camping on route!!
Well happy that "The boys" did Wales proud yesterday too:thumbup: I felt absolutely knackered yesterday from all the shouting!!
Mr p, with hat on you see!
Less than 2weeks to go and i'm feeling more confident with the whole thing now. I've reccied and hacked my way through the route, and now 'trying' to rest those legs. Espeicially after running the northern rhinogs twice, after supporting Keans PB carneddau leg! I am still looking for one or two helpers to carry me through though, so if you fancy a taster of this little' beauty, and you're free from late friday night of the 25th for 24hrs?? I'll be most welcome. The more people i chat to the better. Takes the pain away from those legs!!
Caz the hat
Good luck Caz - sorry I can't make it. When are you trying the Ramsay?
Cheers Tom. Sorry to hear about your leg. Although i couldn't believe it when i saw that you'd been swimming with a bag tied round your plaster cast:w00t: Nutter!!!!
As for the Ramsay? Then who knows?? I have told the mrs that i'm due for a rest after this one!!! Yeah, right! Who am I trying to kid? Me, rest? I'd love to give it a go, but again would have to rely on navigators. Although i did support Baggins on his attempt 2yrs ago. So i might recognise some of the route!!
Might you try the meiri? I reckon you'd love it????
Mr p
Don't fall for it Tom
I am confident that Caz will prove that the Meirionnydd isn't as hard as some people suggest:D ydt
Do you have an idea of when you'll be where? And if I can swing it family wise, would you want some impromptu company for a bit on Saturday morning? Don't factor me in but I'm sure a stranger bearing jelly babies wouldn't come amiss.
I might get a pass and see you out there. Good luck
Mark, how early Saturday morning? Approx 02.30 - 10.00 Caz will be on the Rhinogs .... Molehill and I will be taking them some breakfast up to the top of the Roman Steps ( awaiting Caz to come up with an exact schedule and we will aim to be there one hour early ). 10.00 he should be at Trawsfynnydd - big layby on the opposite side of the main road to the old power station exit. Then it's the Migneint section to Arenig.
Ian.
