Re: midsummer madness races
Just after a further bit of advice. I've only done a few fell races, this one looks to be the first wet one I'll be doing.
I have a waterproof/windproof jacket. But when it comes to bottoms I only have a pair that are wind proof but only water repellant, I'm guessing these wont be any good? Or can I still wear shorts and carry these round with me in my bag if required?
I just dont want to come over and them not being suitable etc...

Bring your windproof bottoms Damien.
Waterproof bottoms with taped seams would be a good purchase for future races though !

No, but it did put the madness into midsummer (especially as I legged it through streams that were once paths, as air raid sirens sounded the alert to abandon Hebden Bridge)
Well done Bill and the team - loved every minute of it!
Sorry I missed the results - anyone know who won / how I did???
See you all tomorrow - heard its going to be hot and sunny all day:w00t:

Re: midsummer madness races

Well done Max and Kate - Heptonstall provides CVFR with 1st male and 1st female - sorry we missed the prize giving- we retreated back to the high ground to toast them in the White Lion before the roads were closed. Trying to persuade Kate to do the other 2 races as she has a good chance for the series now....

This from the BBC's site http://www.bbc.co.uk/travelnews/leeds
Setting of in about 45 mins - Reservoir bogs - probably the best named race in the calendar :)

Main road in Mytholmroyd is still closed according to the travel news link that Manhar posted.
So yes, take the top road!
For anyone coming from Sowerby Bridge direction, turn right off the main road at Luddendenfoot and go through Midgley towards Pecket Well.
Sounds like Todmorden is open though, so should be OK coming from that direction.

Cheers, Bill, but after the cancellation of today's Harden Moss race, I'll be heading up to Clougha Pike with the kids for the Junior English Champs! At least I'll be able to wear wellies - no bogs for me! Hope it goes well.

Re: midsummer madness races
Just had news that the main road through Mytholmroyd is now open.

Great hoping I might just make it in time...

Re: midsummer madness races
Been sweeping at the Reservoir Bogs today and it lived up to it's name. It actually stayed dry for most of the race with a little bit of sunshine which was a relief after last nights deluge.
Great to meet Livi and her friend Lorna - you did really well girls and thanks for making it an enjoyable run.

You could try wearing your cag next time you're out in those conditions (that'll be the one Bill lent you)

2 down, 1 to go; Ran well came in about 13th then got disqualified - me and Mart did nt spot CP5 and went straight to Sheepstones after we lost Charlie - Bugger! Worse still we were rumbled as I bragged to Charlie about how we got the edge on him...Charlie made us point out our route on the map...then made sure we fessed-up to Bill. Busted! Still had great run in the sun. See y'all tomorrow.

Hmm bit gutted bout that as it would have been a cracking result. I reckon as we fessed up that shud be taken into consideration and we should be given a five min time penalty instead of disqualification??. Failing that I reckon the Marshall missed us at cp6 as they were tying their laces as we went sailing past???
Top event tho and good fun nonetheless.

Sorry guys, but if you miss a checkpoint, especially on a nav-based event like the Bogs, you have to be DSQ'd.
Glad you enjoyed it nonetheless.

Surely if you a miss a CP in any race, you have to be DQ'd?
Otherwise next year, I'll do Ennerdale and miss all but the first and last CPs and claim my win!
Seriously though - sounds like a good race today - had planned to come across, but other stuff got in the way this weekend. Well done to everyone who ran! (and organised and marshalled).

Re: midsummer madness races
Didn't they use dibbers?? :w00t: ;)

Was great to meet you too! Loved the run and the nav - the bogs always make me smile! Wonder if waterproof sock man kept his feet dry?!
See you in the morning :-)

Re: midsummer madness races
Good to see a number of you out today on the route incl, no matter how fleetingly, Livi for the 1st time, in the lead pack :)
Enjoy the Hog roast (how about a veggie roast next year ?) and band if you're of to the pub.
Right I'm of to de- midge myself.
-
Re: midsummer madness races
I think I managed to strain/cramp? most of the muscle in my right calf after sticking part of my foot in a hole descending from Midgeley Moor to CP3 on the Bogs route today. As soon as I felt my whole weight going forward on them I knew it wasn't going to end well . It’s so swollen now it actually looks like a proper fell runner’s calf :D . Thanks to all those runners who stopped or checked with me when they went past. Arriving at CP3 to say I couldn’t continue I found Manhar marshalling there who gave me the good news that he had a car close by and could give me a lift back . Cheers Manhar and thanks Bill and all the CVFR team of helpers for putting the race on.
It put my woes in perspective though when I saw the flood damage on the way back! As well as the serious damage in Mytholmroyd/Hebden Bridge the road from Bacup to Gauxholme was practically a scree slope in parts as was Whitworth Road dropping down into Rochdale.
-
Re: midsummer madness races
'Bogs results now up on the CVFR website, and also the series standings so far.
Its all to play for at the top end tomorrow!

Great checkpoint Manhar (you needed Avon Skin So Soft for the midgeys) and lovely to 'meet' you! Leading the pack was hard but we carried it well I thought ;)
Totally agreed on a veggie roast - maybe we should have our own  ?!

Re: Midsummer Madness
Is there any photos posted anywhere yet, as it looked like there were a few photographers dotted around towards the end.
-
Re: Midsummer Madness
I saw Dave and Eileen Woodhead on Saturday, their photos will be on www.woodentops.org.uk I presume.

There are some photos from today on the CVFR website on the Tom Tittiman race page, along with the results.

Re: Midsummer Madness
I'm in exactly the same situation as CCR.
Trying to find my way round flickr and get the permissions right.
