Marsden Edale is one of the classic Peak bogtrots  There's some decent running in patches and one or two good climbs too. My advice: don't wear your best white socks ;)
No secret trod I'm afraid. Not even been up there this year yet
I've tried it and am not convinced the direct is the quickest. Shortest yes. but you spend a mile higher over rougher terrain than the Torside route so if the weather is bad you're up there for a long time, also harder to navigate with low clag. Matt (last years winner) thought it was too rough.
we reckon a few locals will go that way but the majority will still take one of the Torside routes
There's a nice fence there now though! Definately rough going over from the clough up to the Head in parts but some isn't so bad and the running didn't differ so much from all the wet peat hags over the other side...a bog's a bog I guess but it all depends on having the conviction to believe it's a quicker way?
Ive gone up Lawrence Edge a few times and then turned right to pick up the trod over to the top of wildboar clough and then like emmi says you can follow the fence all the way up to bleaklow head.
Last year I followed the Pennine Way in the snow and it seemed okay to me. But there is def a faster route if you veer off clough edge and find that trod all the way to Hern Stones. But its not an easy trod to find although if you know who knows were it is your okay but if you know that the person who your following knows that you know that your onto them they know this and may knowlingly take you on a runaround.
Well maybe and I think I know exactly the spot your on about
BUT I have my eyes on another that day:)
There is a trod before the castle Ian but I only know of one person in the race who knows it well
A teamate tried it last year ( no names) but he is a good vet 50 and I think he stopped to build a snowman en route:rolleyes:
And remember that crampcan creeeeeeeeeeeeeeep up on a runner late on in this race. Its got to be that road section.
Quite a few suffered last yeeeer
it's gonna be 2 litres of nuun juice on the back for me
