Can you all stop talking about the weather! I've got to fly to Aberdeen for work tomorrow!! :w00t:
I can and do still wriggle my toes with all those layers on... and still they seem to get completely non-existent after about 45 minutes :(
No reason to blush Daz... I stayed with my friend Becky after the awards dinner, so that I did not have to drive all the way home in this rather icey and dicey weather! Best to tackle treacherous roads in the daylight!
Wished it was something more exciting though... :(
Quietly ventured out for a couple of hours this afternoon, fully rugged up, all dull main road fare, anything else is not passable (on a bike), too much ice. The out leg was a cruise, the return, into a fffffffrreeezing head wind fairly miserable. That's what it is all about isn't it, suffering:wink::wink:
Me spinning class was cancelled tonight due to bad weather!!!!!
After satdee toffs I can fully empathise.
Spinning again for me tonight no cancellation this end aud marra but the numbers were down, only the die hards out tonight (or mad??!). :-)
Oh and I discovered the fell runner mag falls to bits in the sauna, do you think it's a dodgy glue:D
2x20 on the gym bike - usual pain, usual pool of sweat, usual disturbed onlookers
(plus 3-mile commute home with sleet in the eyes ...)
Just getting worried that the sportive on Sunday might be cancelled especially as I had got psyched up to do 60 miles. Not done more than 30 miles in last 25 years
Ray may wish he looked like that.
Tony Hopkins is probably a bit unimpressed with his character.
Angelina wouldn't have needed a whole lot of CGI ;-) .
Only about 1:45 for the session, but enjoyed the Beowulf more than No Country For Old Men.
Bring on the thaw.
Xmas Cracker sportive now postponed until 27th Feb
going running up Inglebugger tomorrow instead
Double spin and lycra viewing as promised:wink:
Just off for a touch of skiing, get me to that powder!!!!!
Should be a good test of the broken bits:o
Careful Toff!

Great pictures Ratfink. That looks like a helluva commute to work :D .
Washed bike today, first time that water wouldn't freeze on it for well over a week.
Good pictures RF
Great piccies Ratfink! Looks like you had some fun :)
Yes good pictures Ratfink
Nearly got tempted by a Carbon Frame in Mercian the other day. Think it was a MODA Stratto .Very nice and just my size..
Not sure if im ready for Carbon yet.
Rollers tonight , 2 hrs
Daz, take a deep breath and walk away from the carbon, you know you have to!!!!
Surely carbon in a traditional steel frame building workshop is an oxymoron??
Yes a bit strange seeing carbon in Mercian although for a few years they have bonded stays to steel frames I think on the Velochita model.
They certainly wont be selling to many as they are very busy on frame orders. I think its more of a we want to cater for everyone type of thing.
The Moda frames seem very much like the Dolan ones.
No rollers for me last night. The dog looked at me. I looked at him and said Badger its minus twelve, he barked so we ran 11 miles in the snow.
Was going to whinge about falling over while walking my bike to a main road yesterday & then I read about this;
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-cumbria-11930697
Hugely sobering & sad.
Careful out there all.
spin class last night - 40 mins not quite enough - gonna start doing doubles
yes yiannis I read about that - absolutely shocking
it is THE thing that makes me dubious about taking up road cycling as a serious hobby: I just don't see how you can really enjoy riding on roads - especiallly quick descents - where a serious accident is pretty much waiting round every corner
I think that's a bit of an over reaction.... they're both tragic accidents but, if you look at the stats for hours of participation vs accidents for cycling, you'll see that it's pretty safe. As for there being a serious accident waiting around every corner, it really depends on how you choose to ride and your level of skill. Yes there's the unknown factor of other road users but, as long as you're sensible and minimise risk such as not hammering round blind bends, you should be fine.
well OK - but I'm not talking about those news reports, more based on my own experience of riding around south-west London. OK, a totally skewed experience, I admit.
But I look at the closest 'riding country' though and it's Surrey Hills, where people drive Chelsea Tactors round narrow country lanes like they own the place. Which they probably do.
If I lived in France, I reckon I could get well into it.
Yiannis I was shocked when I heard about that one. Another really awful incident.
I can understand your comment about cycling where cars go is plain dangerous but the problem in a lot of cases is that the motorists get off very lightly. You hear of drivers hitting cyclists and getting a tiny slap on the wrist. Its time the law came down harder.
Theres no one more safety minded than me, its my job. Im always looking ahead at work for potential hazards etc etc etc. I apply this to my road biking. I could go out here now and I bet out of the next 10 cyclists I see at least half will be wearing black. Tis why I wear team jerseys. What is easier to see( A black gilet or a red team jersey with flandria plastered over it?????.
I have 4 x red flashing lights on my bike in winter and two on the front ( total cost about 40 quid). YET I still see everyday cyclists with no lights on.
I think what helps as well is when you can ride in the flow. I realise not everyone can ride at 20mph and cars can be on a bike thats not travelling fast very quickly.
Also and Nikalas and others will tell you that roadsense is massive. A Roadman like myself who has been riding for over 30 years can look at an inexperienced rider and cringe, and I mean cringe.
I have lads who work under me that earn £ 25,000 a year and come to work on a battered mountain bike with no lights on. they couldnt ride a bike safely if they tried.
So its both sides really but I have to say its not that dangerous Yiannis if you are sensible.
