Happy New Year to you too Daz, and to everyone else!
I should hear about the knee tomorrow, had my MRI on Thursday... fingers crossed it can be repaired and I can get back to cycling and running...
good luck Hann! i am getting over some flu at the moment so nto been on the bike in a while.
Don't forget it's dangerous out there...

Yes I saw that Dom
Very sad news indeed
And if you look at those statistics for London, 54 deaths since the start of 2007. Tragic.
Although the figures are coming down, one is too many.
Please be careful out there and above all make sure your well lit up and wear bright clothing.
very sedate post-lergy pootle. 18 miles (average speed a heady 10mph!) - went on the touring tyred commuting bike.
A steady 32 miles , it was mega windy today but I crammed in eighteen decent local climbs and made sure I sat down up all of them.
Nice and dry and the sun came out.
What are the training benefits of sitting down as opposed to standing up? Or could you just not be arsed to stand up?
I can do more climbs seating, yes I can do some standing all the way but you use more energy and get tired faster. Anyone can flash up the hills standing and kill themselves but why. Take your time, sit down , keep your cadence up and don't grip to tight.
You kinda get used to your limit on hills but the key to faster hills is simply drop weight.
You won't be like a 54kg Spanish climber overnight but dropping weight is huge. Now that I'm back to just over 60 kilos I can climb properly again.
Personally I like to climb hills seating in training because I always know I have a fair bit in hand if I need to stand on the pedals. If I'm doing a harder ride I will stand towards the top of the hill and push it then. That gives you a bit of strength training if your like. But generally seating is more efficient and your shaved legs look better.
You are shaving your legs grouse yes
I have cycling to report! Went out this morning, in the sunshine, with floods having flushed away most of the snow from the lanes :)
First time in two months or so... but as the consultant said I could not really do any more damage to the knee, I went out... Initially it was very painful the first coupld of times I loaded the knee on a slight uphill, then it all eased off and settled and went from an 8/10 on the painscale to a 1/10... And the rest of the day the knee has felt better than it has done in months!!!
Have been offered physio by a friend too to see if that can help... while I am waiting for my op...
In the meantime, building things up again. It was great to be out, even though it was an easy potter on the crosser. I like to take the crosser, plenty of gears to be able t spin up hills, so I don't have to load the knee so much...
Now I best put a bottle cage on the crosser, as I am taking it on the easy clubrun tomorrow and will want to be carrying a drink :)
Very well done hanneke, have a good un tomorrow.
Good stuff Hann, clear proof that cycling is good for you:wink:
42 miles of undulating stomping today at about 18. Sun out tomorrow, hills I reckon:thumbup::thumbup:
Yesterday was a nice bit of Fellbiking after work on the old Alan crosser
went over Pendle from the nick via Ogden clough/paved track and back along the ridge past the carns to the bottom of the road and back up to the nick
its an old route I used to do along time ago
lots more fun that on the road :w00t:
Great news Hann, hope you continue to get mended :D .
Sneaky 50ish this morning, 25 on my own & 25 or so with club. Roads were a bit sketchy to begin with, but it was starting to look like a superb day for a ride. I had to cut it short & get home for family stuff. Shall make sure I have permission to stay out another couple of hours next time.
There was a right "readers wives" selection of winter bikes among the club bikes ;) . One fixie, a couple with 35mm tyres, an 80's mtb conversion. Only one big gay bear on a carbon frame.
Have fun out there.
20 miles for me today, first time out on the bike for a while. Also another first when I hit a patch of thick ice and watched the bike go from under me leaving me sliding along the ice for a good few metres. Didn't much enjoy the 10 miles back after that.
Well, did my 50ish miles with the 'slow group' today, with a coffestop halfway. We averaged about 17/18 mph on a fairly flat route, I was glad with tyhe crosser as it made me quite 'solid' on the road as it were...
No falls on ice in our group, but our medium group had a few come down, one fractured hip and shoulder :( It was treacherous out on a bike in S Wales this morning, lots of falls! :-O
Well done guys, good riding.
Fell race for me.
Well trimming me fevvers haha. We're not the most aerodynamic of birds. I used to be crap at riding out of the saddle before I started running, but do it a lot now, seems to help with climbing on the fells too - they certainly seem to complement each other. Don't do many long rides these dya but have short sharp hill on the way back from work - how well I can go up is a good indication of how I am running on the hills.
erm, yes, lethal for the first hour or so, loads of ice, not that I am allowed out when it is icy.......one of our group crashed on ice after about 30mins or so, fortunately no damage, but the Rhigos mountain plans were swiftly aborted and a coastal 50 mile foray, with a tea stop at Old Grey Beard's gaff was a more than adequate replacement.
Beef stew, dumplings and Guinness filled a hole on my return, yum:thumbup:
Who were you out with Toff? Several others mentioned the Rhigos wasn't viable too...
Small group with a few Ajax guys, needed to get out earlier than the main bunch, time pressures etc. Thinking of joining Daz, sorry Ajax or perhaps Jif this year, it would certainly help push the cycling on a bit.... hmmmm, choices, choices, which cleaning agent would you choose??

Look Look everyone a new bike shop in south wales. They also sell paint by the look of it.
Hann you never mentioned this ??????????
A tough 80 mins of spin tonight then 50 mins in the shed on the rollers. Tough after running last night and the fell race on Sunday.
Legs ached a lot.
Was very cold in the shed as well, roll on light nights when you can just ride in the dry and not be frozen.
Decided to get back on the honey for a bit of added zing.
45 min spin class then 2 mile jog home.....knackered!!!
Woohoo, sexy avatar Nee :D
51 miles in whorendous wind :D , enjoyed final 20 miles.
Watch out for the rider who lobs his bike across the river at 2 minutes. Genius!
