Training Hours per month ?
Hi folks,
Just interested to hear what sort of hours people are putting in per month for training & racing, running and riding / swimming.
Including commuting I'm putting in 40-50 per month, excluding commuting its 30-40 (my commute is often pretty flat out!)
I can't help but think this is low ?
Conversely, my racing's going from strength to strength so it can't be a bad thing.
This last 2 years I've switched to short high intensity training mixed with an ultra every 2months or so and it seems to be reaping benefits.
My weekly running mileages are <15 miles per week.
Re: Training Hours per month ?
My training is quite hit-and-miss, as things generally get in the way. But I have a new programme that I want to start working to. I only do short sessions really, with only my long run at the weekend breaking the hour barrier. So Im probably only hitting 4 hours a week - So 16 hours a month.
Id hazard a guess that if you set up a poll, most people would hit quite a high number of hours, but each to their own and what ever works for you...and all that.

What do you do for the 15 miles? I struggle to find time and do less than 15 miles per week but unlike you I am not improving!!!!

Off road, hilly, Hard 2 hours with most climbs redlining it. Negative splits too so first hour is slower, second hour faster.
Re: Training Hours per month ?
I normally do around 7-8 hours per week of running so around 30hrs a month, but this can vary wildly depending on races. I don't really log weights sessions or cross training etc. so I'm not sure how much it works out (I don't do much though, probably around an hour or two a week).

Re: Training Hours per month ?
I am sure I read somewhere that 'what you train is what you get"
ie it is not te hours so much as what you do
So all my long slow runs mean that is all I am good for- crap at anything short and fast but can plod all day most days.
Really I should do some speed work etc but.....
Re: Training Hours per month ?
About 30 hours running, 3 hours swimming, 9 hours cycling (commute), 9 hours weights/core, so maybe around 50+ hours total per month. Doesn't sound much when you put it in those terms, but still difficult to squeeze in!
Re: Training Hours per month ?
At the moment it's quite high for me.
cycling about 18 hours per month this is a lot higher than normal and it seems to be helping
Running about 25 hours per month
Re: Training Hours per month ?
Just a quick look at my Garmin. I'd say I'm averageing 60 mile a month running plus another 10-20 walking and 20 or so biking. In time its possibly about 10-12 hrs running, 4hours walking and 2 hours cycling. My runnings slow as big chunks were long runs in the hills. So I'd say I spend around 15-20 hours a month doing stuff. Maybe a wee bit more, and I get 2-4 hours in the gym too. I'll see at Jura how I'm going. I've significantly increased my climb average tho' from around 26,000' last year, by this time, to 60,000'!!
