Forgotten the pain, knee deep mud, flipping freezing over night (just for fun we started at 10pm in October!)
In the daylight, mmm, intresting!
Lyke Wake Race last Saturday
Any else complete in this quagmire known as The North York Moors. What about the thunderstorm? I was at Fylingdales, wow, that came down!! What are others experiences of the race?
Re: Lyke Wake Race last Saturd
A female friend of mine did this came in at 7hrs 50 mins ish, are there any results out yet ?
Re: Lyke Wake Race last Saturd
wow, impressive time. no results yet. usually online fairly quick and then they send out a hard copy later with your splits on it.
I struggled round in 9hr 45 min , but pleased as it beat my pb of last year by 24 mins and much wetter conditions.

Harsh but very funny.
I've been on a race earlier this year where I was stood on the start line next to a guy who had no bumbag, asked him where his waterproof, map, compass, spare food etc were and he said he didn't think he needed any he was just going to follow the guy in front:eek: The race was a 40+ miler.
Re: Lyke Wake Race last Saturd
I like the fact that they classify veterans as over 55.:)
Re: Lyke Wake Race last Saturd
Yes , know what you mean about the comment on the guy who took 4 hours to go 4 miles. Reckon he got lost a lot. No idea what time he started but suspect early on, some of my clubmates started at 4 , maybe they saw this happy wanderer. The tone of the report last year was similar. A runner broke his leg i think at Jugger Howe and they said lots of people passed him without offering help. I didn't see him personally but have heard that when he was asked if he was ok he said yes.

Lyke Wake Walk split times
Does anyone who has completed the LWW (West to East) have split times for road crossings etc they would be willing to share?
I hope to complete the LWW in Sept in around 8-9 hrs and could do with some timings to help me with pace and support.
Re: Lyke Wake Walk split times
Have a look at Durham Fellrunners website. They have results from last year's Lyke Wake Race including split times. You should be able to work out your own splits for 8-9 hour schedule based on this info. I'm doing Lyke Wake Race on July 11th and hoping to crack 8 hours. However, I did a reccee of the sections from Lion Inn to Ravenscar (21 miles) last Sunday and may have to revise that target if the route doesn't dry out a bit. The boggy section that begins just after you leave the road beyond 'Fat Betty' is pretty nasty and seemed to suck the life out of my legs. I did the section in 4 hours, so my target of sub 8 may be possible if everything falls into place on the day. Doing a 25 miler this weekend from the start of the course to home in Great Ayton, will probably begin to taper after that.
Good Luck for September

Re: Lyke Wake Walk split times
Thanks for that web address, very useful.
Re: Lyke Wake Walk split times
Just 10 days to go now and all seems fine on the legs/training front.
I am doing the run in aid of Save The Children Fund and would love some more donations.
Please visit www.justgiving.com/simonmartland to donate.
Re: Lyke Wake Walk split times
I seem to be posting to myself, but I will write it anyway!
Completed the LWW on Sat in 8hrs 24mins. Weather was good throughout with a kind following wind.
Next step is to get up to 10000ft of climb on a regular basis, lots of leg squats and keep injury free, then, just maybe I can do an anti-clockwise BGR and at last put that dream to rest!

Re: Lyke Wake Walk split times
well done matey. I did the LWW as a walk back in July with some friends.. but it took us considerably longer than you. 8.24 seems to be a pretty good run time to me. What were the bogs like?
Re: Lyke Wake Walk split times
Bogs were not too bad. A lot of puddles and many paths were actually streams. Only one bit of marsh wobbled like a trampoline under my feet! Living near Black Hill I am used to wet feet! I enjoyed the day and am now wondering if it could become an annual trip for me or shall I try the Peak District Trigs or Dales Way or ... the list is endless!
