I ran this several times in the early 1990's - it's mostly off road with not quite enough climb for a proper fell race - started and finished with a dash up the village main street. Seemed to be plenty of fellrunners doing it - nice atmosphere and the village pub used to be pretty good!
Thanks for the reply Welsh Harrier.
Think I will wait and see what the weather forecast is next week, then do either this one, Wormstones on the Wednesday or Pilsley on the Thursday...
Excellent, didn't know this existed. we used to use taddington hill as a good training ride when i was with the cycling club. That hill goes on forever!! Never drive into the sand traps as my mate did, they certainly work!!
anyone know anything about this years event?
The race is normally during Well Dressing week which is sometime in August.
I've a flyer in the truck....
Will check for sure in the morn...
Fairly certain it's Tues 24th August...
By all accounts it's a cracking eve' race...
With a lovely atmosphere...
Sadly I'll miss it again...
Peddlin the Hebs..
Instead...;)
anyone know if this is on this year?
19th August according to Matlock AC website.
Thanks GB - however, I'll be away on hols, so will miss it for another year...
Well its still going strong. Same course of 4 miles and 420 feet,, 3 miles tarmac and 1 mile off road, on a green lane that is basically two deep tractor tyre ruts with a raised bit in the middle. This year due to the wet summer, a combination of fewer people using the green lane and the vegetation going crazy, it was very difficult to see where ones feet were landing!
93 folk ran this year, buoyed by over 20 from Buxton AC who have this race as part of their Club Champs.
I had a decent run finishing in 9th overall and 1st M60 in 26:29. Only a second slower than my last attempt in 2018.
A decent pint of Summer Sovereign 4% from Peak Ales in the newly refurbished Queens Arms
