Re: Heptonstall Recce - 4th Ma
I've got race day on my calendar (why do I keep putting myself through that final climb up the steps???)

Coming on the recce on 4th March, JD? That final climb gets easier each time. Surely?

Re: Heptonstall Recce - 4th Ma
The pull of Heptonstall is strong isn't it. I live in Bury and find myself over at Hep pretty often. Our little boy has just started nursery at Heptonstall Primary! (Does anybody want to buy a really nice and reasonably priced 3 bedroom, 3 storey town house in Bury?)

Hey Joey sounds like you are pretty serious about doing more running round here!
Thats sounds like a bloomin long school run though......
How are you juggling that?

Re: Heptonstall Recce - 4th Ma
It's not so bad. I work in Brierfield and my good lady works in Tod. Not so far really. We do want to move to the hills though!

Fantastic -we all agreed you passed the new resident test!!! We'll be knocking on your door for cups of sugar before you know it......
Still on for 4th of March house hunt/run??
-
Re: Heptonstall Recce - 4th Ma
Obviously we wouldn't count as local until at least 10 generations had lived there though .
-
Re: Heptonstall Recce - 4th Ma
By which time you would have inter-married with your cousins!
-
Re: Heptonstall Recce - 4th Ma
Cue the banjo/guitar duel from Deliverance! And 'yes' to the recce/house hunt this coming Sunday.
-
Re: Heptonstall Recce - 4th Ma
Perhaps those good ol'boys at the Hurriers should rebrand as the hill-billies?
Really looking forward to another 15 mile blast on Sunday (all part of my marathon/3 peaks/etape de dales training)
Reminder of our last recce photos from Jedi Master http://flic.kr/s/aHsjyoeX12 - think he said he would make an appearance on 4th

Re: Heptonstall Recce - 4th Ma

I might see if I can keep up with him too this time - perhaps a 2hr 30 round??
-
Re: Heptonstall Recce - 4th Ma
If he was really going for it the only way I'd be able to keep up with him would be to tie myself to his bumbag! :w00t:

Apparently the path is 'compromised' by fencing at the recently vacated property at Charles Rough in Crimsworth Dean.......may need attention.

Is the path a right of way on the OS map?

'Is the path a right of way on the OS map?'

Re: Heptonstall Recce - 4th Ma
Oh I do love the litigious society we live in. Most fell runners I've met take better care of the environment they love than some landowners seem to. (I hope that comment doesn't spark a diatribe splinter thread.)

We can have a look on Sunday - lets hope the path is clear of any new fence posts
All these recces are great or my 3Ps training - repeated 15mile 3000ft runs at pace is ideal

Re: Heptonstall Recce - 4th Ma
Apart from Trig, Joey D, Stanners, Jedi, and Nipper do we know anyone else whose definitely running on Sunday?
Shall I ask mien host (Bazza) to russel up some of his extra spicey broth????

Hey Trig, disaster has struck re the Heptonstall recce for me, I have found myself in the the Edale Skyline and Sunday is the best opportunity I have for a recce there so... I am sadly sending my apologies - I will come out to Heptonstall to do an unofficial recce in the week and pop in to say hi to Barry and scout around to see if any nice properties for sale. JD, see you on the day. Sarah

Re: Heptonstall Recce - 4th Ma
PeterB and I are having a final-pre-Hobble-preparation-jog around Heptonstall route on Sunday. Meeting at 0615 at the Blue Pig so as to get that steep bit done first. If anyone wants to join us you are welcome.

So no excuses for those needing to be back by 9.00am! Anyone who wants to run twice can now start at 6.15am with Charlie and Pete at Blue Pig, then meet Joey. Jedi, Trig etc at 9am at White Lion  . Good luck to those out at 06.15 - I'll be in the 09.00am round....we'll look out for your stud marks.
We're hoping to get the PDF OS map of the route on www.heptonstallfellrace.org.uk asap - for anyone off doing other recces or needing race-day map. In meantime there's a written route description on the route tab.

No worries Nipper - Edale sounds like a great day out. Whats all this about house hunting in Heptonstall? You and Joey are nt moving in together are you? This thread is an estate agent's dream;)

Re: Heptonstall Recce - 4th Ma
I'm afraid I'm doubtful for the 9am recce now. My brother and sister-in-law have just given birth to a new nephew and Sunday is the first opportunity to go and meet him in Bromsgrove. Sorry!
-
Re: Heptonstall Recce - 4th Ma
Hi Trig, Take it from recent posts that we are still ok for 9am on sunday. Looking forward to it.
-
Re: Heptonstall Recce - 4th Ma
Hi Trig, all being well I'll be there for a pelt around. Might try the fast group seeing as the Mag 7 hasn't totally destroyed my legs.
-
Re: Heptonstall Recce - 4th Ma
Trig, do you know who's turning out for tomorrow's final recce? Forecast looks like we could see snow on the tops – I'm strongly in favour of a serious training session at the bar post recce!
-
Re: Heptonstall Recce - 4th Ma
Definitely on for tomorrow - no idea on numbers yet but there will be at least 5 or 6 of us meeting at 08.45 for a 09.00am start (Trig, Jedi, Roubaix, Stanners, and a few non-forumites) could be alot more based on previous 20-30 who turned out for last few recces.
Charlie B and Pete are still doing 06.15am from the Blue Pig (for fans of early starts)
-
Re: Heptonstall Recce - 4th Ma
me again...
Good news Pete F (web-miester) has uploaded a great pdf / OS map of the route - handy for tomorrow or if you're planning a solo recce.
http://www.heptonstallfellrace.org.uk/route Please ignore google map on web site currently showing an incorrect route/poor line over nav section Heptonstall Moor Hot Stones Hill to Standing Stone Hill - the OS map shows a much better line (although the trods are barely visable and need recce-ing)
BTW - as with last year the race day finish is in private fields only open to runners on the day.
