Did this one last year. Quite nice. Tentatively pencilled in for next year (altho' it's a bit far off yet!)
Yes I did it but I think it is really a walkers route - you have to keep your eyes glued to the route description to avoid missing a turn. Some nice bits but not very satisfying as a run - there is not much chance to get going.
Any 22 miler is going to be a walkers event as far as I'm concerned. Stopping to read route directions is fantastic excuse, and I really enjoyed The Black Brook on this basis. Sounds perfect!
Fancy this myself. Great area. Have it pencilled in. And yes I agree, the route instructions are a great excuse to take it easy. I've loved all the LDWA events I've done :)
another excuse for doing it is some good grub at certain checkpoints and finish.
I've pencilled it in for nexst January, great incentive to get the training going at the beginning of the year.
I'll be doing it Tussockface - infact i started to recci the last bit about 4 weeks ago and got knocked down by a cow!! Got my foot stuck in some deep mud and the cow (with me holding on to it's ears) pushed me over twisting my ankle badly. I've only just started running again now but hope to be doing the Burley Bridge Hike next week but at a cautiious (on cow alert!) and slow (cos of the pain) pace
Are you still doing it?
Yes, I'm still on course to do Burley Bridge, having survived the Shepherd's Skyline today with both ankles intact, which was an unexpected bonus.
You might even spot me in my nice shiny new Fell Ponies vest if it arrives in time ....:)
Glad to hear you're doing the Hebden, and taking it seriously enough to recce.
As you know from our joint jogging of "The Road to Ell', I know the area reasonably well so I probably won't bother to suss out the route in advance.
But where was this killer cow? I've been wary of cattle since several hundred of the buggers conspired to play mind games with me one evening in a field near Addingham. One cow's mind I can normally beat, but when you get enough of them working together a bovine supercomputer networking thing begins to take over and it can get quite scary.
We would be very pleased to see a good turn out of runners again on our event. The route is the same as last year and we have an abbreviated route description to make it more runner friendly. We have also brought forward the opening times of check points so it is faster. The grub will be the same and we are arranging for less mud this year. See the website at www.alangreenwood.biz/hvh/index.html for an entry form.
Two entries going in the post today Alan. Another nice badge to add to my collection I see.
Looking forward to it plenty. Have done some random training runs around this area when visiting friends, and really looking forward to seeing how it all fits together.
Does it tend to fill up? Or are there usually entries on the day? I've got some friends who are interested too, but not prepared to commit just yet.
Last year was the first time we ran the event and we had about 240 entries. We accept entries on the day but it is £2extra and not a good deal for runners who do not eat so much. It can cause problems for organisers if too many do enter on the day because of the need to buy food before hand. Maximum entry is 300 and as of yesterday we had 82. All the details are on the web at www.alangreenwood.biz/hvh/index.html Look forward to seeing you on the day.
I am in this looks fun!
I could run as a Fell Pony - maybe we could raise a team?
(In seems somehow in the club spirit to have a team in an event that's non-competitive...)
Hi Alan. I notice on the bumph that you can get a bacon buttie for a pound if you 'pre-order'. I don't know how to preorder 'em though. So can we have 2 butties for numbers 112 and 113, Julie and Richard? Yummy, ta !! :)
So who else is going to be there then?
Amex - you still going?
I'm pretty sure DerbyTup and NotOnUrHelly both said they'd be there.
Who else?
I'll be at this one, only on the 14 miler though, build things up steadily.
Me and the missus are doing this on Saturday.
It ll be my first LDWA event and the first time my missus has done anything like this, so just the 14 miler for now.
Quite looking forward to it, seems very well organised and the food looks good. Also looks to be nearing the 300 limit.
I'm still on for the long one. Saw Derby Tup at the Giant's Tooth and he was a definite too; he mentioned several other K&C runners who were booked, including Brett.
You can download the list of entrants, but unless you know their 'real' names, it doesn't really help identify the forumites!
Amex, are you trotting round as a Pony or going incognito? I have my usual "Which vest?" dilemma.
You can see the list of entrants at www.alangreenwood.biz/hvh/index.html then click List of Entrants
OK, dilemma solved. Black vest it is. See you there!
Just to clear a little something up... in case anyone else is wondering...
I've had a lot of queries about this event...
This race / walk / event is not organised by the Allan Greenwood who organises the fell races in the FRA fixtures calendar.
It's coincidence that I also live in Huddersfield and have organised events in the Calder Valley.
I will be organising the Ovenden fell race from Ogden Water on the same day.
Good luck everyone, whichever you are competing in..
AG
My throats better so I'm on.
Me and Castlehill are doing it with a very special guest star, yes he's/she's an old forum favourite who has not been around for a while.
He/She is very determined to bounce back too previous form
He'll be the one in the mask and on the lead, Ill give my bacon butty too anyone who can guess who it could be.
Did I give too much away? as well as my butty:mad:
On the website I notice that this has a limit of 300 and the entry list already has 301 on it.
I've mailed Carol and Alan earlier today but had no joy.
Not sure how these LDWA events work, will I get a place if I turn up tomorrow?
Any forumites who have a place feeling tired?
My wifes place is now vacant!
wrong in soooo many ways
