Would it be better to do the shorter Anni waltz in april and go for a longer distance in say august. Any thoughts or help appreciated.
Anni Waltz - great event with a great atmosphere. Hope to see you there.

The Waltz is a great race...Lots of junior races, cracking senior route and a true lakeland fell race. Do the Waltz and do perhaps the Old Counties Tops as your long run
Re: 3 peaks or Anni Waltz ?.
Three Peaks of course :) but I'm a local like and biased
The AW is okay too and has cake... and beer

Can definately recommend the cake!
Re: 3 peaks or Anni Waltz ?.
t-m, getting round the Peaks would give you a confidence boost but you'll need to get entered soon as its filling up fast. You need to have done qualifying races too. See the web-site for details :)
Re: 3 peaks or Anni Waltz ?.
Cheers everyone will look into entries and qualifiers and see what seems more viable.
Re: 3 peaks or Anni Waltz ?.
3 peaks
no contest
but would have liked to have done both
do not understand the clash in the same area. perhaps it was done on purpose to keep numbers down?
Re: 3 peaks or Anni Waltz ?.
I agree with MfDM.
It's a great shame we have a clash of 2 really top races.
Doubly so as WPette and some of the kids I coach will be at AW.

is not what constitutes a "really top race" a matter of opinion?
there are clashes all over the calendar
at least this is just for one year
there are some clashes that happen every year
e.g. the first weekend in September sees: Ben Nevis, Grisedale Horseshoe, Peris Horseshoe and Bullock Smithy (and some people might even consider Totley Exterminator a "top" race)

...and the Lake District Mountain Trial.
Peris on the Saturday, LDMT on the Sunday? No problem!
In fact Peris & LDMT are both the 2nd weekend in September. Ben Nevis & Peris clashed last year, though.
Re: 3 peaks or Anni Waltz ?.
OK, so that's 6 events on the first weekend in September - any advance?
any more "crammed" weekend than this?
most of May is usually pretty choc-a...

i can only assume you are looking for an argument
on my map the dales and the Lakes are both in the north west therefore same area?????????????????????????????????????????????
ben Nevis and the lakes are not even in the same country so how can you yse them as an example to ridicule my post
go on a navigation course
Re: 3 peaks or Anni Waltz ?.
Thirteen races last weekend in May including three on Bank Holiday Monday
I'm with the Slug in thinking the Lakes and Dales are different areas. Blooming long way from Bolton Abbey to Wasdale ;)

Thankyou for answering my question.
Re: 3 peaks or Anni Waltz ?.
I think the reason the clash is a bit disappointing (to me) is that the two races are often done one before the other (by me :)). I see where the man from del monte is coming from in that if you live in the north west you'd probably be able to travel to either without too much hassle but I equally agree with daz the slug - Horton I can get to in 10 minutes and that little place that the AW starts from (Stair?) is 2 hours away at least - on a good day, I can get to the outskirts of Birmingham in 2 hours!!
The 3 peaks is a longer slog but counts for double points because its in the Dales whereas the AW is in the spoggy old Lake District ;)
