2 Crosses
I've just got back from the East Lancs LDWA meeting and the decision was to reluctantly postpone the 25th Two Crosses Circuit, due next Sunday. I have an entry list and recognise many FRA members. The first suitable date (subject to logistics of rebooking etc) is Sunday, March 21st. All entries will be valid for that date. Full information will be posted on the LDWA site in the next couple of days. Just wanted to get the info out quickly to reduce the number of phone calls to the organisers.
Nine of us did a marshals walk last Sunday. We only did the 18 mile route but that took us 7 hours despite a good speed where possible, 5 hours being the expected time in previous years. Speed certainly wasn't possible on White Moss which although enjoyable in a perverse sort of way, would pose too great a risk (especially if the wind speed is anything like today on Winter Hill).
Apologies for starting a new thread, but thought it may get lost in the multi LDWA races thread.
With the safety of competitors the most important, and the forecast that we are unlikely to see significant improvement by Sunday, the decision was clear.
A bit more detail now posted on the East Lancs LDWA site
At least I shall be able to get up after it becomes light (and finish the walk in the light - I'm sweeping).

Re: 2 Crosses put back to Marc
Many thanks for letting us know. Real shame. I thought I might have come out of it nicely - when deciding which events to do last year, there was a clash with the Filey Flier on the same weekend. I opted for 2 Crosses and then when the FF was postponed to 20th March I thought I could do both. Looks like the postponed events will also clash! Never mind.
If anyone's interested in a long social run on Sunday, we'll still be going, although perhaps slightly nearer to Leeds/Otley.

It was a case of going though the calendar section of Strider - and of course rearranged FF wouldn't have been listed. Notice it also clashes with Edale Skyline but didn't have my calendar with me at the time.

Re: 2 Crosses put back to Marc
It's really difficult trying to re-arrange events. We're going to have lots of choice in Feb & March! (assuming it all clears up by then). I wouldn't worry at all about clashing with Edale Skyline at all (my tick is very firmly in the "done that" box!!!!)

Re: 2 Crosses put back to Marc
shame, but would have been hard going and some of the marshaling points are very exposed........shall recce the Hebden instead on sunday.
-
Re: 2 Crosses put back to Marc
It wasn’t a clash for us; we were doing both events with a £9 Travelodge in between, perfect plan. Unfortunately the provisional new dates clash with a long weekend in Wales, with more cheap Travelodges. What to do, hmmm, decisions, decisions.

Re: 2 Crosses put back to Marc
I've been expecting to hear this for a while now. I'm not surprised. Thanks for giving us advanced warning Gordon.
It's a shame I won't be able to make the new date as it clashes with the Hardmoors 55.

Thanks for letting us know. Was half expecting it anyway with the recent thaw / re-freeze but still gutted. Was looking forward to this one.
At least now I can attend my mums birthday party:eek: (am I a bad son?)
Fingers crossed for the Anglezarke Amble.

Same here - it will be my debut for the full distance - done it as a training run a few times over the years. Will no doubt have a battle with the rest of the wfdbwgua crew.

Re: 2 Crosses put back to Marc
What a shame. I'm hoping to do the hardmoors 55 that day.
Don't mean to sound tight but is there any chance of a refund?
Was looking forward to the challenge on sunday too.

[Pedant Mode] You mean postponed until 21st March. Something cannot be cancelled until a future date as cancelled is absolute. [/Pedant Mode]
I will merge the two threads so we keep all the information in the same place.

Gordon
thanks for the email and the info.
Like many others here i was half expecting it to be cancelled so it hasnt come as a complete shock.
Unfortunately myself and mrs simba wont be able to attend on the 21st as were getting married on that date.
shame really cos we were looking forward to it.
Might do it on another day together just for a training run.

Sure you could find a way of combining the two :) Would Mrs Simba object?

You don't want to know - you are far too young. I believe they are a bunch of gangsters that prey on young fell runners and rob them of their speed.
Best ask peawet08 or t'Blackrod Lad.

-

Looks like it's fixed now. How about Blubberhouses on 28th March and London Marathon on 25th April?
-
Re: 2 Crosses put back to Marc
Yes, confirming March 21st.
-
Re: 2 Crosses put back to Marc
Just been round the 25 mile route with Mrs M. The ground is drying up nicely.
-
Re: 2 Crosses put back to Marc
Can anyone confirm how long the 25 mile route is?
Sounds like a daft question but the 18 miler came out at 16.7m.
-
Re: 2 Crosses put back to Marc
I,ve always thought the 18 route seemed a bit short but we ran the 25 today in 4 hour n 50 mins and it felt accurate. Took us 4h n 17mins to do the Hebden this year.

Re: 2 Crosses put back to Marc

-
Re: 2 Crosses put back to Marc

I clocked it as 25.04 miles.
The 0.04 was probably were we missed the turn off Darwen moors heading towards Cadshaw.
Great event, well organised.
Especially loved the Tuscan Bean soup afterwards.

Re: 2 Crosses put back to Marc
Agree, another really well organised even by East Lancs, with excellent home cooked food – really appreciated (is cheese in soup a Lancashire thing?) Speaking to one of the organisers though, this could be the last. Any more info on this?

It's the last one the two main organisers are doing. They need successors. I don't think a final decision has been made yet. I'm not volunteering as I expect to have little spare time from September (and have seven weeks June-Aug also spoken for).

Re: 2 Crosses put back to Marc
Glad that there is a good response to the event.
I was quite surprised to find (when I got to checkpoint 2) that only 91 of the 214 starters had opted for the full course. I was sweeping at the back hence the figures. I wonder what percentage were running. I found it much harder than the Hobble the previous week but that was my fault as I was wearing walking socks which should have gone in the bin a couple of years ago. So I'm left nursing a big blister on my heel which I'll have to rest for a couple of days. At least I've already acheived my target mileage for March :)

Re: 2 Crosses put back to Marc
I enjoyed this, my first impromptu outing since Rombald's Stride. I set off on the 18 and made it to CP1 before calling it a day. Both injuries were making themselves felt and there was no point in aggravating them unnecessarily. Many thanks to the supporter who gave me a lift back to base, and many thanks to the outgoing organisers. I hope and pray for replacements so this excellent event can continue.

Missing 18 mile numbers
I've got the original entry list from January up to no 224.
Assuming no numbers were re-allocated, I could add
6 (61 = Tony Varley, Horwich RMI)
7 (190 = Paul Dark, ?)
9 (176 = James Fairfield, ?)
10 (75 = Ray Bolton, listed as a walker)
13 (21 = Kirsty Hewitson, ?)
132 Mark Cartwright
9 Malcolm Bird
54 Jason Tonge
88 Mark Shuttleworth
114 Alma Walsh (listed as a walker)
217 Lesley Fisher (Burnden RR)
62 Don Nichol
40 Racheal Ellison (listed as a walker)
90 Eileen Newman
105 Kevin McGilvray
104 Anne Marie Rampley
115 - David Walsh (listed as a walker)
223 - Chris Hare
86 & 75 are Nicole & David Kirkham, both Horwich
I'll ask who is publishing results on Saturday
