Re: FOR SALE - Old Trafford
I was going to put in the sales and wants, its looking a bit tired is the old place. Would be OK in Div 1 or 2 though.
Yes it did need its own thread.
This is just how Leeds started, selling their best players, then then ground and training ground and the welcome to Div 1 Sir Alex:eek:

Why?
They've not said that OT is for sale, just that they reserve the right to in the future. It's a due diligence document that they need to produce to be able to implement the bond issue

Re: FOR SALE - Old Trafford
They are a similar situation to the Pool, dodgy Yank owners who need dispensing of.

So are you saying Leeds are finished? They seem to be getting back?
So which is it?
You get good times and bad times. You role with it. Others jump ship.

Even the most partizan of us would say we're a long way from getting back to where we were.

You do, but when the bad times are forced upon your club unnecessarily, it's your duty to make a stand

What second tier? which you will be come May
It's where you've spent a lot of time. You're a solid championship team.. :-)
OK you have been at the top under Wilkinson, but the Ridsdale era is a red herring, that was unsustainable.

No that's not correct, we've spent far more time in the top tier than the second. Leeds are a Premiership club brought to hard times by near financial ruin. Until 2007 we had never been in the third tier.
Historically we've been in the top division for longer than any other division. For example 1964 to 1982 and 1990 to 2004. And more often than not in these periods we have been in the upper echelon (21 times in 32 years finishing 5th place or higher). As I said in a different thread Leeds made a profit in 2000 when we finished 3rd - so that couldn't be put down to Ridsdale's extravagence, that came later.
My point is that if it can happen to us, it can happen to anyone. Nobody is too big to fail through massive debts. While both Man Utd and Liverpool are bigger clubs than Leeds were, their debts are far far bigger. Man Utd are struggling to sustain their debt at the moment while successful on the pitch, so what chance when they are less successful but the debts still have to be serviced.
-
Re: FOR SALE - Old Trafford
I think it makes for an interesting Premiership. If Man Utd had spent and replaced Ronaldo effectively, they'd be 3 points clear at the top and everyone would be yawning again. As it is, it's one of the most open title races in years.
The injection of money into Villa and Man City has helped this. The Premiership is no longer suitable for multi-millionaires who want to run a football club like a business (with debts), it's now the place of billionaires. Football clubs are just toys to these people. What do Abramovich, Lerner or Mansour care about long-term sustainability?

Not another one. It's impossible to see the pitch from the last one you built!:)

Re: FOR SALE - Old Trafford
What i dont like is owners that buy a club not with there own money but debt thats than placed on to the club. How on earth these people expect to make money from football i dont know,And at the end of the day they can walk away scott free if it all goes belly up.Seems like alot of em jumped on a bandwagon.

I wouldn't have thought you'd need to sell the swamp. After all when we buy Rooney off you at the end of the season, you should have enough money to cover the interest payments. :D

Really?
How about, once a toffee, always a toffee. He soon forgot that.
Don't think it will be enough to make the interest payments anyway. Clubs often don't get the full value for their players when they're in financial distress.

Re: FOR SALE - Old Trafford
Randy Lerner seems to be different to other foreign owners, going for local hospice sponsership of shirts seems a decent non-profit move. He seems to have backed Martin O'Neill and kept out of the limelight / spotlight / media. Isn't that what you want from an owner.
I think fellboy can shed more light on Lerner but to an outsider he seems pretty decent.

Have to agree with this. I'm not a fan of any billionaire coming in and taking over a club but if you had to choose one, it would be Randy if only for hit name!

I agree. If I were to win the 50 billion pound lottery, I'd like to run my Premiership football team in the way he seems to be. Quiet, consistent backing for a quality manager.
It must be easier knowing you have an intelligent hardworking manager who understands the game of football. Some chairmen simply haven't got a clue when employing managers. Roy Keane! Bryan Robson!?

Harsh on Keane, turning Ipswich around and didn't do badly with Sunderland. Turned them around in a rapid time.

It's funny how perceptions can differ so much. Personally, I wouldn't trust him to coach the reserves.
When we both win the billionaire lottery, you can have him to manage your team. ;)

Did a reasonable job with Sunderland. Got them promoted but then left them struggling last season.
He's certainly turned Ipswich around (for the worse anyway). Finished 9th last season. Under his stewardship this season they are currently 20th.
-
Re: FOR SALE - Old Trafford
He started badly, rock bottom, but he's turning them around. 1 loss in 12 or so, looking a decent team now. I think they'll get the play offs.
His first season at Sunderland was very good, money or not he got the likes of nosworthy, edwards playing out of their skin. Second season he kept them up, but then they started to struggle. Not unusual, Burley did the same at Ipswich, Brown at Hull. I think that's why Coyle jumped ship. Burnley's form was increasngly poor. If they get relegated it'll now be blamed on Laws.

Was this about the time he started refusing to talk directly to the chairman? A situation that lasted for several months before he left.
-
Re: FOR SALE - Old Trafford
There was a fall out but TBF the new man came in and started questioning him.
He's unbalanced but he knows football. I think he expects too much, expects 11 Roy Keanes on a pitch when 1 is more than enough, but Ipswich are adapting and their league form is right up there over the past 2 months.

Re: FOR SALE - Old Trafford
Is it true City are buying it for the juniors to play on.
Could put sheep on it in summer:)

Have you seen our turf? I doubt sheep could live on it. I've seen better turf on the North Face of welsh hillsides, never gets any sun!
You could do Heathens a favour and rent it out to FC United of Manchester, they're currently playing out of Gigg lane.

City started Dedryck Boyata at centre-half against Boro recently (and he was man of the match), Vlad Weiss got a debut start recently (and has come off the bench a few times) and Andrew Tutte, Abdi Ibrahim and Kieran Trippier have all made the bench recently.
