Steam Bunny Challenge 2010
Oh yes! The white smoke has gone up from the chimney in Race HQ. The maps are out in an ungainly heap. Tour De Galles 2010 is racing out of the traps as yet another 5 day jaunt in the land of sheep and song is shaping up in the fertile mind of routemeister Toffer.
Suffice to say that the 2010 event will be special, pulling together the best bits of previous madcap challenges whilst incorporating tasty new bits. And, best of all, it will incorporate running to celebrate Toffers return!
This is just a teaser to perk you up whilst Toffer finesses the detail. Stand by your beds!:D

Re: Steam Bunny Challenge 2010
BED STOOD BY!!! Can I move yet?
Do we have an initial date for the madness...

Oooooohhhhh! You tease!!:D:)
Come on, cough up the title! We can leave the specifics till later!;)
-

Re: Steam Bunny Challenge 2010
when, when, when?????? it's all about WHEN!

Re: Steam Bunny Challenge 2010
It'll be Midsummer Madness. Potential acronym for the event may be TOCTOWBB!!
Here's a nice little entrance test for anyone interested. Please tell me the highest points in pre '74 Denbighshire and Montgomeryshire.;)
-
Re: Steam Bunny Challenge 2010
Ha.... two birds with one stone - the Alan variety? I think I can see where this is going!
-
Re: Steam Bunny Challenge 2010
Or is it?? There is much argument about this. I read an old book today that gave Foel Fabian as the highest point in Mongomeryshire...but I think thats wrong!;)

Yup, it is a when thing.......
Rate limiting step, me and my titanium. All coming out at the end of February, crutches for a few weeks, on the bike by April, jogging???? May, which means end June at the earliest, which would be good if I could manage it, my running will be crap, but that is the vague plan. Bottom line, not keen to set a date just yet until I see how I recover from the op.....so watch this space.....

You are correct, it is wrong, we were right, PM on the way. However there is another little thing that I need to check....

Re: Steam Bunny Challenge 2010
So is it going to be the highest point in each of the post-1974 Welsh counties?
-
Re: Steam Bunny Challenge 2010
Post '74? Nah, that would be too easy;)
I'll give you a clue...the BB bit of TOCTOWBB stands for 'by bike'!
The Steam Bunnies hold the record for this event 'BC'...and it took us just over 21 hours. Set in 1992! When we had hair!!!
-
Re: Steam Bunny Challenge 2010
Well come on.... "why are we waiting...!!"
-
Re: Steam Bunny Challenge 2010
Why did I not spot this earlier?
I can do crap running and will join you at that Toff :)
Can it be as late into the summer season as possible please? So I stand a remote chance of being able to bimble around with you lot?
My votes would be for the third week fo August :D As that is when I am allowed to start running again :D
-
Re: Steam Bunny Challenge 2010
I promise I won't have even the one sense of humour failure this time ;):rolleyes:
-
Re: Steam Bunny Challenge 2010
Didn't notice one last time :D:D

Re: Steam Bunny Challenge 2010
OK, whilst I wait for the routemeister to finesse the detail, I'll tell you that TOCTOWBB stands for The Old County Tops Of Wales By Bike. Back in '92, 3 of us did this for charidee in a Nissan Patrol 4 litre jeep driven by Rod the Rally.....which was a terrifying experience! So now we want to take a more leisurely stab at it. Should get it into 5 days.
So thats 13 mountains and a bit of cycling....come on, you know you want to!:D

Re: Steam Bunny Challenge 2010
Then you had better get fit for June...this is Midsummer Madness! You and Toffer can take zimmer frames for the running bits!:D
-
Re: Steam Bunny Challenge 2010
June? Will we be going around the clock then? No boozing and sleeping allowed????
I best be off to order a zimmer then... other problem is, June is prime bike racing season, so may not be able to take the time off :(
-
Re: Steam Bunny Challenge 2010
Choices, choices.
TOCTOWBB..............one glorious weekend in the year.
Cycle racing..............any weekend you want!;)
-
Re: Steam Bunny Challenge 2010
If T'Octowebb thingy is planned for either 12-13 or 19-20 June I'll have to send apologies :( - I have an appointment with a 44' yacht in the Inner Hebrides :D

Zimmers all round I reckon. Perhaps it should be TOCTOWBBAFOZ..........ie and foot or zimmer:rolleyes:
The later in June the better would be best for my rehab time, aiming for around Midsummer w/e though....watch this space:eek:
PS Just sorted the Day 1 entertainment: 145km on the bike, Moel Fammau, Moel Sych, Cadair Berwyn and Moley's secret tour of Aran Fawdwyy:eek:
Erm, looks like a bit of a day to me!!

Re: Steam Bunny Challenge 2010
I will probably not be able to do the whole thing this year :(
But a couple of days is most likely, even after that ^^^
-
Re: Steam Bunny Challenge 2010
Well, you can take your pick of the following:
Holyhead Mountain
Snowdon
Moel Fammau
Cadair Berwyn
Moel Sych
Aran Fawddwy
Plynlimon
Trig 666
Chwarel Y Fan
Pen Y Fan
Rhigos Mtn
Bannau Sir Gaer
Mynydd Prescilli
We will be visiting them all but not necessarily in that order, connected by the very best in high mountain passes that sweaty little peeps on bikes can manage!:)
-
Re: Steam Bunny Challenge 2010
Cool :) I still have some mountain passes to tick off, the ones I skipped last time around...
I shall await more detailed schedules and fit in as many miles on bike and foot as I can fit into work and racing schedules :)
Mind, the sooner I know, the better, as that way I can actually fit work and racing around TOCTOWBBAFOZ in stead :D

What about the highest point in detached Flintshire? I assume you'll also be visiting that, just for completeness. But where is it?

No, that's in the attached bit of Flintshire!
The highest point I was able to find was in the detached Flintshire/Maelor area is a 113m spot height in Bettisfield park at SJ454380.
