Splendid - hopfully those other great races in that 'neck of the woods' - Boundary Stone Blast and Kettleshulme will follow suit.
Kettleshulme was great for the last downhill but only when it's anti-cockwise!
Goyt Valley Striders are hoping to resurrect the Vanessa Chappell Fell Race this year and take it back to its original route starting at the Moorside Hotel. We've have got permission from The Moorside Grange Hotel, Lyme Park, Vanessa Chappell's family and Dale Gartley the previous organiser. The provisional date is Wednesday 26th May 2010.
We're just putting the final touches to the arrangements and hope to be able to confirm things very soon. Meanwhile, if the date is currently free in your diary, why not pencil this previously very popular race in.
Route planned is: 5.6M/1317’

I notice on the Hayfield site that this race is being organised. Looking at the route map it goes down Higher Lane - is this really correct as I would have thought that this is a really dangerous road to run down as it has no foot paths and is reasonably busy?

I train regularly around the Bowstones/Black Hill area (in fact I was out near there last Sunday), so I'll feel right at home :D
The route of Dale's race in the earlier versions used Higher Lane as shown on the map - the road section is right at the start of the race, and, because the runners are all together (having just started) they clear it pretty quickly.Quote:

We've had to have a bit of a route change as Bollinhurst Bridge (SD979832) is closed for 6 months, therefore the new VC route is as follows:-
Exit Lyme Park at East Lodge as previously, after 100m turn right onto Gritstone Trail (SD977830), continue across fields until SD980826 then bear left onto footpath to meet road opposite Bolder Hall, Mudhurst Lane. Turn left onto Road continue for 400m before turning right up to Black Rock as previously.
Race length is now 5.82 miles so even more value for your money as well as the soup!
VC will also be part of the new "Lyme Park" Series as well whch includes Boars Head on 8th June and Kettleshulme on 15th June 2011.

Just bumping up information re the route change.
Can anybody help? I need to contact last year’s winner, Stuart Bond, to arrange for the race trophy to be returned in time for this year’s event. Will anybody be speaking to Stuart in the next few days and be able to ask him whether he is intending to run this year and remind him to bring the trophy or alternatively can anybody PM me with his contact details?
