Hi,
Been looking over the calendar. I always glossed over the term 'team' in there. But figured I'd ask the question, how do teams work in fell running?
Got to be a club? Or could the 3 be 3 mates or even 3 fell ponies?
Just thinking if theres 3 guys who haven't entered a longer fell race before, is there any reason they shouldn't run together as a team?
The three don't have to run together. What normally happens is the first three runners from a club count as the 'team'. You then add their positions together and the team with the lowest total wins the team prize.
e.g.
Typical race result:
1. GB Pennine
2. AP Pennine
3. DH Pennine
4. LT Dark Peak
5. MH Dark Peak
6. PW Dark Peak
Pennine score 1+2+3=6 6pts
Dark Peak score 4+5+6=15pts
Pennine win the team prize!
You said what i was thinking Ian. Not that my running would alter anything. Dark Peak Rule.
You dont always think of the team prize during the race. For me a team thing is usually the relays.
Always nice to see off dark peak mind eh geoff:D
One of the great things though in a race is to be near a team mate of a similair standard with whom you can work with. A fantastic experience.
One of my big motivators for Tanky's is the team prize, It's been won by Dark Peak to paraphrase Federer for the last 150 thousand years:D and when I look at it and see the names on it I feel priviledged to have my name along side.
It is worth mentioning though that a certain club would have beaten DP this year but for Tanky's rule of first four home from a club wins prize reguardless of positional points.:o
Relays and Champs are where the team effort really comes together though. The rest of the time you are running for your self.
I think if you hadn't have mentioned it, someone else would have.;).
Usually a painful experience too.
