Sounds promising, my first race on the fells since the winter and I'd be disappointed if I didn't get caked
nice link euph, like I thought a nice mudbath, looking forward to it especially that nice undulating twisting turning descent that seems to go on for miles...of course you've got to get up there first. !!
Anyone else having a go at this ?
Any tips from others who've done it in the past ?
Doing this, it's in our club h/cap.Skyrac. It's fast with no big climbs, does get muddy in parts, feels more like a trail race, nice area, my home turf, you cou;d get away with trail shoes .
I ran around the course back at the end of April when it was relatively dry but given the recent rain I'd imagine it'll be very wet in parts at the moment, particularly the path descending from the 'summit'. Personally I'd recommend fell shoes.
There's a course map at http://www.otleyac.co.uk/Round%20Hil.../RoundHill.htm
I'm probably doing this (not done it before) and might have a trot round some of the course tonight. I'll report back re state of the ground if I do have a run out.
It is a Strider championship race as well! Starts off on good track before going to a thin path. Two bogs to contend with. First one small, second one before the ascent of Round Hill is a biggie!
Went up there a couple of weeks ago and it was VERY wet in places.
If dry then trail shoes are fine, if wet then fell. If unsure then fell.
I'll pack my wellies then ;-)
I should be there....any on road stuff???
Just thinking about shoes ruin my mud claws if its bone dry (ooop norf as if) or wear my swoops and ruin my feet??
Calf
No road, but about 1 mile of like hardcore track, 1/2 at the start 1/2 at the end, it was sunny and dry on Friday and this mornning it's a nice start to the day, apart from the two bogs, which are not that bad about 100m across,it could be a very dry course.
Just noticed some photos on Otley ac's gallery.
I'm quite pleased with the one of me at the start but the one at the end makes me look like a sweaty Bernard Manning in lycra!!!
Emm,
I did not see any PINK yesterday, I did the same time as last year 79:07maybe a few seconds faster, but I felt shattered compared to how I felt last year, still winning a spot prize of beer did help to cool me down.
I saw two sets of pink, but emmilou was definitely the pinker.
(Actually, three sets of pink, if you include me after the race. Wish I'd put on some sun screen...)
Bits of me were pink from continual falling over ...... I wasn't pissed honest :D
thought I did quite a good impression of a sun going supernova I was that bloody hot at the end
Well I did the race. My first fell race in about 20 months since surgery and I didn't come last...as was my greatest fear!:) 6th female home out of 17. 3rd female in my age group out of 8.
Heat damned near killed me though (blonde and fair and don't do heat) and so I had to walk a lot towards the end because I thought my head was about to explode! So I was disappointed with my time. However, really chuffed that I had no knee pain at all, which is just the best. :D
...but very disappointed that 12 hrs later I was admitted to hospital after having been in epigastric agony since about half an hour after the race. Managed to escape the hospital after a couple of days but still waiting test results and don't know yet if the two are linked. :(
Well done to all in that heat!!
Hi Emmilou,
You passed me on the initial track run...as did most people, it takes me a while to settle into my stride! But I passed you again on one of the first inclines. I was the only one in a Leeds Bradford Triathlon top.
I was going to say hello to you, from my previous post about 'getting back on the horse', but I don't know you and can be quite shy so I didn't. What a wus I am! Never believe I'm nearly 40!
There's a piccy of everyone on the first and final legs on the website...including you, pink ribbons and all!
Well done. It was so hot. Hottest day of the year they say.
oh you should have said hello....I don't bite :o well not all the time! Glad to see/hear you've recovered from your injury but sorry to hear about the stint in hospital....don't suppose heat/dehydration could be a factor??
The pictures aren't the most flattering and what the hell was I doing wearing those long shorts! Nearly expired in that heat.....just too hot for me certainly not conjusive with 'running' !
No, not dehydrated as quite careful about that and pee was nice and pale. Had no other symptoms of heat stroke either. Hospitals are quite convinced it's gastric.
I know I shoud, say hello but I really am crap at at that sort of thing.
Wouldn't worry about your piccie, I look like a bloke as usual with my hair tied back and a pained frown on my face! :o I see most of the blokes had their chests out by the end due to the heat...not sure us girlies could get away with such a thing ;)
Who's going to this one tomorrow?
I'll be there Tussockface. Very long time no see; it'll be good to have a catch-up. :)
Ah...but who will catching whom?!?
Depends on who can run quickest in flippers. That bog before the climb up Round Hill will be very wet I suspect. ;)
But what about the lane sections? Do you have road flippers?
I might do it on a body board
No road flippers sadly but it can't be long 'til Inov-8 bring one out! :D
Thinking about this, in which case DT might well have my scalp. At the risk of sounding like RB, what's it like?
Very runnable with what will be one decent bog. Circa 9ml / 1000ft iirc
Hmm, why do I get the feeling you're hiding something DT? Well if I can haul my hairy arse out of bed that early, I may make a slow and ambling appearance.
Very runnable Pudgy and if I finish within 15mins of you I'll be delighted
Well now I've got my new rocket shoes you might struggle
Bloody laces still came undone though at Hellifield.
