Before anyone spills the beans... Would it be helpful to let everyone know, or are sensitive discussions with race organisers still taking place?
I think they'll be announced in due course - it was fixed after the Viking Chase last year which means end September.
Read the Junior Co-ordinator thread and it's clear that the work has been done on this matter.
Any news ?
Pendle
Coiners
Sedbergh (Uphill)
Arnison (Up & Down)
Clougha
Viking Chase
dates - to be confirmed.
I can confirm also that the Pendle Race (2nd April) will also be the Lancs Champs 2011
Sounds cracking, WP will the u18s at pendle do the same course as the seniors do you know ?
I think that will be the plan - with the U16s having a slightly shorter route and racing on their own.
that's down to the race organiser - I imagine it will be easier to do that than run 2 races.
Pendle Sat 2 April
Coiners Mon 2 May (BH)
Sedbergh (Helm Hill) (uphill) Sun 22 May
Clougha Sat 18 June TBC (Access issues)
Arnison (up & down) Sun 26 June
Viking Chase Sun 25 Sep
I assume these dates that I have been sent are all but confirmed. Do i smell the start of yet more controversy and discontent or rather the same old same old.
I was sent this info so I have no idea whether the datea re corretc. i asume they are as they sound about right based on the usual calender. Its a problem with junior races being able to be at your best for all of them especially when there is a gap. I guess it measn that alot of people will target the first 5 all within a 3 month period and not be too bothered if a bit of fitness has gone by the last one. Such is life. Hope you enjoy them especially the 2nd one.
Before anyone plans their calendar for next year (and this thread races off in a mis-guided direction), it might be better to wait for the official announcement, which will happen when all aspects of the six races have been agreed.
I agree with Jim, the race schedule has not been confirmed and it is not helpful to have it posted here until it is.
You can assume that when it is totally confirmed the Junior Coordinator will publish it, and that may not be me.
As for the English Uphill Championship Race being in the Championship, I can't see any reason why a FRA Medal Awarding race shouldn't be in. Just because "a lot of people" don't like something doesn't mean it is wrong.
It is completely impossible to satisfy everyone when choosing championship races and you only have to count 4. If you can't run uphill well, don't do the Uphill Race, if you can't do steep, short, up and down races, don't do them, if you can't do long hard races, don't do them - however, if you want to win the Junior Champs, you'll have to make sure that you can do them, or your competitors will take easy points off you.
Well said Lecky - by the way, I like CCR's dates ;)
Apologies. I thought the information was freely out there already hence the post with dates. Sorry if that has caused any upset. You are right of course Lecky it is perhaps not right that any of us have stolen the thunder from the new Coordinator.
Just wonder if the final race will indeeed by the Viking Chase as it seems the 2nd Commonwealth Mountain Champs are on the same weekend in Llanberis. It's a possibility that some people may need to be in 2 places at the same time.
In many sports, it would seem that top level competitors decide where their priorities lie at the start of the season; home or international success and honours. There will inevitably be clashes, and therefore choices to be made. At the highest level, competitors will already have a plan to peak for London 2012, which may well mean missing other major events.
I am aware of a young runner, who on two occasions entered an English Championship round despite having been selected for the imminent World Junior Champs. The runner suffered an injury both times, but fortunately did not have to withdraw from the World's on the second demonstration of poor judgement.
My point is that there comes a time where a serious choice has to be made. That is why selectors often insist on agreeing a training and racing plan before major championships.
I wasn't only refering to athletes - the athletes involved may only be a few because of the age of course. I was also thinking of the "management" as it ties in with the Do.
My only problem is that 4 of the races are smack bang in the middle of exams
