I recall replying to a previous thread months ago that I would not pay a fortune to enter an event that is entirely self-supported. What are you paying your money for ??
If you want to do a self-supported run there are plenty of other things you can do.

I've just come back from from a 350k stage race in Switzerland (cost about £600 - take that DB :p) which I hope will stand me in good stead.

Well the Hardmoors certainly lived up to its name. Fantastic scenery, 6000 ish metres of ascent, with a teatime start the race ran through 2 nights, very cold on the night while hot during the day. The races organisation was second to none. Very helpful and freindly marshalls:D. A very tough event, would recommend this to anyone who wants a hard challenge. Anyone else out there who has entered this race in the past?
Anymore decent 100 milers plus out there, Apart from this and the West Highland Way Race??

Jon Steele, the organiser of the Hardmoors 110 mile ultra announced today (in the West Highland Way race forum) that he's in the process of organising a Hardmoors 55 for Feb/Mar time next year. It's going to be the first section of the Cleveland Way from Helmsley towards Saltburn.
There's also the possibility that later in the year (but before the Hardmoors 110) he'll organise an event over the second half of the route.
The website has not been built yet but it would be worth keeping an eye on the 110 site for more announcements if this kind of thing tickles your fancy.
I've got no connection with the event, I just think it's a bl**dy good idea. :D
Hardmoors fun run sounds a good idea. Would be a chance for time on the feet for later in the year ;)
Provisional date Saturday March 20th 2010.
I'd love to do the 2nd part of this in particular.
nb. I am an ex-native of Scarboro, so whenever I'm back, a fave run is up the Railway line or Cleveland Way to Whitby, and then get the bus back.

Yah the date I beleive is the 20th March (Thick snow last year around this area if I remember right) I think there will be an option of, for a small charge a coach from the finish to the start before the race (so you can park up be taken to the start and crawl back into your car at the end,) and a drop bag option, so runners can run either unsupported or supported. I also beleive there is talk about finishing at Guisborough rather than Saltburn, to avoid running through housing estates in Skelton and getting into scraps with chavs and crossing busy roads. (sounds good to me, the more time off roads the better) I also have heard (ok im a nosey bugger) ;)that it could be in the runfurther series:D
Either way count me in, planning on running this, the Woldsman, A Bob Graham Round, the Lakeland 100 and the TMB again IN 2010, may just support a mate rather than run the Hardmoors this year, very tempted though will see what state Im in, in September:eek:
Leaving the whw this year to do the Bob Graham, but was tempted by the LDWA Heart of Scotland 100.

That is the Halfmoors, the Hardmoors 55 is the March race, will find out the date of the Halfmoors (could be on the same day as the Hardmoors110 alongside it) all the info for the Hardmoors 55 is as it was before (website is currently 'www.Hardmoors110.org.com' will tie in with the old websites adress soon which is www.Hardmoors110.co.uk) Martin (Halfmoors) and Jon (Hardmoors 55 and 110) ran the Hardmoors110 together in 2008 and have know decided to work on separate races under the same banner) if that makes sense. The Woldsman is a great event (east yorkshire ldwa) Ive run 3 of them on the old route (Beverley-Market Weighton etc) and 2 on the new route (better plus tougher) I truly reccomend it, and I will be running it again in April (usualy end of April) this event is why I have never done the Fling. (too close to the Woldsman and the Woldsman is about 250 miles nearer to me) The Hardmoors route is a lot lot tougher though and a lot more scenic in my opinion then the Woldsman (ran the Hardmoors twice now, usually most of that section is done in the dark, but Ive recced the route a dozen times in the daylight) if I remember correctly it was thick snow last year on the Cleveland Hills around that time, even without the snow the winds on Roseberry topping etc will be bloody strong, so open around there, where the Wolds are a bit more sheltered, So for toughness and overall race experience then I reckon Hardmoors would be the one, but you should run the Woldsman as well defo, we will have to meet up on the day guts what do you think??
theres talk of the Hardmoors being in the Runfurther series (I suppose we will find out for defo after or on Sat night, Runfurther series party at Wilfs Staveley)

As much as I can see the Hardmoors55 is an unsupported event, there is a drop bag option and a bus back to the start, there is also the talk of the Hardmoors110 becoming an unsupported event as well (well I think a choice of having a support crew or using drop bags) I suppose the hard thing with the 110 is it isnt a circular route and people finish anytime within 15 hours of each other.
I can't see any race that requires motorised support being in the Vasque series. I think that races in the series should be competitive. Any race that requires motorised support isn't competitive as it's only open to those who know people who are willing to waste a day driving around after someone. I think races in a series (any series) need to be open to everyone with adequate physical ability.
I think there's a difference between allowing motorised support and requiring it and I think the latter should be discouraged.
