I'm doing Leg 4.
Leg 1 and looking forward to it.
Anyone got a good link to a marked up map? The OS map is quite difficult to follow. I'm using the route descriptions at http://www.penninebridlewayrelay.co....escription.htm
Nice one BJ - Those route descriptions are superb.
I couldn't see the reasoning in us putting out a mixed team until i realised that our mixed team will actually be extremely competitive.
Not sure where it leaves us old buggers in the vets team though. We'll do well to miss the mass starts. :D
Thanks for the photo-shot in the Observer as well - it did my credibility at work the power of good
I've been a figure of ridicule, mockery and scorn at work since Wednesday Crumbly. :D
Are you doing a leg of the MTL Crumbly?
Good to see you back on the forum Notlob till i die - can't help but think that 'those in the knows' aspirations and hopes might just be a little bit over-ambitious if they think us old buggers are going to beat the mixed team by 5 minutes myself.
It's Widdy i feel sorry for - over Christmas and New Year his partner, though never having the classic runner physique in the first place, is now a right fat bastard. :D
You beat Widdy (and me) at Marl Pitts so I'm sure you'll kick ass Danbert.
By the way your picture didn't go unnoticed round here either. The great Joe Salt loved it, Mrs Needham thought it was wonderful and so did a certain former Irish International XC runner.
I'm recceing Leg 4 on Saturday morning with Anna, leaving here at 9am, if anyone wants to come along (we are doing it out and back, i.e. 2 X 5.5 miles, 1500' ish, at easy pace with lots of head scratching along the way). I think the beginning of leg 4 is a bit convoluted.
Steady on Danbert/Brummy John - having a conversation about my missues before I could get re-registered. It's a good job 'her in doors' cannot get on this forum or she would have 'yer guts for garters'.
Danbert, I have sent you a reply to your message about the recce of leg 3. I will give you a bell with some dates.
Having mountain biked it a few years ago (the whole thing) it is actually easy to follow, unless those chavs have been up switching signs. I should be doing it, not sure of the leg yet though, maybe the left one.;)
Im doing the 9.5mile leg not sur ewhich one that is. Im running as part of the mixed team
Sounds good danbert, do you remember me I think we only met once at Rivi Pike.
I take it your injury free now then
Cheers
Jamie
From what I remember, the majority is signed and ridable (depending if your calves were up to it. The first section has loads of gates (we worked as a team opening and closing gates) One bit was hairy on the bike, but ridable by the fitter ones. As it is designed for horses as well, I should think it has been fairly well maintained over the years (hopefully!)
Rivi pike it was....thanks for asking i'm definitely on the road to full recovery now.
Good man Vince, you have now idea how comforting and reassuring that reply was.:cool:Quote:

I reccied leg 4 last week. Its all well marked and the tracks are easy to follow especially if your using the route description.
I will be there, don't know what leg yet until team captain tells me!
I've done leg 3 and leg 5 in previous years, enjoyed both but leg 5 is probably favourite out of the two.
No. of teams in final results:
2004: 39
2005: 47
2006: 54
Entries so far for 2007: 70
Reccied leg 3 on Saturday morning. Does anyone know why we have to detour via Horsehold instead of following the revised bridleway?
There are no signs from the turn left through the top of the woods and Horsehold until the junction of London Road and the Pennine Bridleway. The new, revised bridleway is well signed.
Anyone who doesn't know that we're expected to turn off the bridleway and follows the signs will have a big advantage.
Ali
PS this isn't a go at the organisers in any way just a genuine query.
There is something about this on the News page of the event website (see item headed "latest News on the route for 2007 - Leg 3").
KEITH
I'm doing leg 3 which I'm glad about as the previous two years I've done leg 2 and it's a bit too far for me!
I was going to pretend i hadn't seen your post Ali and reap the advantage...but Parkys link has deprived me of this illicit advantage.;)
What's leg 3 like Ali? Myself and Widdy are reccieing it shortly, is it all runnable or are there any hands on knees sections?
I have noticed that you are becomming a very cheeky and impudent young man Pengy if this insolence continues i can see me having to take my slippers to your behind.Quote:
well if all else fails danbert at least yee can resort to pedle power in ya slippers and dressing gown
leg 3 is full of good running - perfect for a speedster like yourself danbert:eek:
Danbert,
Don't worry too much about getting lost. Our men's team can follow our mixed team, if it can keep up that is :)
It will certainly be interesting to see who is chasing who. Notlob, I have your jumper from training as you left it in the changing rooms. The Bolton Wanderers badges are safe for now!!
Well, I don't make the Radcliffe team so hope you all enjoy the relay.
Anyway, more to the point- who's doing lovely leg 2?! I'm paired up with the club speed merchant who's a little more dedicated and focused than me!! He makes me feel guilty, not turning up & running with a hangover!!!
Went round Leg 3 yesterday with a group from Ilkley, thought it was a good runnable leg with some solid steady climbing but nothing you would call steep.
I reckon you could run it without a recce, Mrs GA is doing it and she dragged me round.
Personally I would still wear shoes with good grip cos you want plenty of grip on the stony/cobbled downhill bits. Should be able to get some speed up flying down those, but could be fun if its icy!
Hope the weather on race day is as good as yesterday, caught some cracking views. Seemed to be a few others out reccieing as well.
