Can anyone confirm whether this race is on again this year or not please?
Scroll down here to Wed 27th June.
Cheers David! Busy night in NW Derbyshire; also Shelf Moor Uphill and Tintwistle Round the Resers. Not to mention Lancs v Yorks 20/20 Cricket at nearby Old Trafford........:D
Just reminder to runners in and around the Peak District. Hope fell race July1st We have a new course and Infants and Junior races. More info hopefellrace.co.uk Go on give it a go. Regards Mark
Parking is on the sportsground so there is an unlimited amount.
Cant wait for the new course - after canvassing opinion last year the race apparently now goes to Win Hill Summit and even the durge through the housing estate has gone.
That's 4 races that include the summit of Win Hill that I'm aware of. Edale Skyline, Bamford Sheepdog Trials, (please no more puns about that:p - my side's are still aching), Bamford Carnival and Hope Wakes. Are there any more?
Some you Win Some you Lose - that did - but for one year only as its been pulled from the calender this year unfortunatly - pity - cos it was a goodun? Anyone know if it might come back??
Does the High Peak Marathon include the Winhill summit?
Good see that there is interest. We were limited on how we could set the course so win hill was the only alternative given landowner restrictions. Cutting out the horrible estate meant more turf and less tarmac, here again our local farmers kindly let us open gates and run through thier fields. So I hope you enjoy. Win being the operative word.
PS. Yes Ian she did say. Look forward to seeing you there.
That's 5 currently then. Any advance on 5?
Are there any other summits that attract such popularity out there? Could be the subject of a new thread:)
Or even maybe "The Win Hill Series":D
We had a similar thread a few months ago. I think Kinder came out pretty high up (although I thought that was cheating as it's more of a plateau than a hill).

Can anyone tell me how tough this race is, i've only done one fell race and thats the gravy pud, which took me an hour, am i batting above my station with this race.
This is half a mile further but with nearly 50% more climb than Gravy Pud. The climb is fairly runnable - its a traverse climb rather than straight up and I would suggest if you usually finish in the top half of the field you will find it all runnable.
The new route is a bit of a mystery - apparently we are going to Winn Hill Summit this year but whether that is a direct line once you get to the ridge remains to be seen. If you get the 'lactic burn' you can always walk.
I would definately do it - if for the views if nothing else. I cant think of a finer way to spend the evening. I cant wait - credit the organisers - last year they asked the whole field how they could make the race better and they have taken every comment on board. Not sure about my suggestion for a free pint of Moonshine or Farmers Blond at the finish though.
See you there hopefully.
I wish I could be there to do this one, very jealous. Good luck to Mark and the organisers.
sirgordonzola you'll be fine. The climb will be hard but just think of the descent.
Thank you for the replies, im gonna go for it, im certain im gonna be last home looking at the times from last year, i might pack a torch, but nothing ventured nothing gained, and theres no way i'll improve if i dont test myself.
Don't worry about last years times as the route is completely different.
Rumor has it it climbs Winn hill twice!!!
Can't wait for tommorrow.
i,ve got another pass out for this, looking forward to it.
hope the baby sleeps well tonight so i stand half a chance of doing ok.
lets hope it cools of abit by 7pm.:):)
Dont know what Win hill is so not too scared. Anyone got a directions to the start or a postcode? Looked on the website but not a lot of information
The start and parking are in the Sports Field bang opposite Hope Valley College on the main road. So if you're coming from Bamford its on the right as you leave Hope. If you're coming from Castleton its on your left as you enter.
Thanks, coming from Stockport so I guess it's the Castleton way
We could do with a few river crossings tonight. Metcheck says it will be silly hot (25 degrees until 9pm)
I've managed to obtain a sneak preview of the race route. It's a kind-of short-sticked triangular lollipop ;)
It goes out and comes back under the railway bridge. On the way out it then turns left and goes nearly to Wooler Knoll. It then turns right and runs down through the trees to its far point where you turn right again and run up Win Hill. It then follows almost a straight line to go under the railway again and back to the start.
I guess they needed to keep it quite secret, as some of it is on private land.
Well today it was taking a group of 14 year old boys from Edale up Golden Clough (nice bit of water) along the south side if Kinder to Jaggers which we dropped down and had dinner ( Lunch for them They're from Surrey:rolleyes:) with fgeet in the stream and chilled out for an hour:D
Back up to Edale cross and and along to Winn hill befor dropping down to Glen brook
Phew hot hard day but sure beats working in an office.
Yep all day.
Tommorrow I'm at Higger Tor and a double yorkshire 3 peak this weekend.
I can confirm that there were race markers by the stile that drops down to twitchill farm and up to the trig, straight over to what looked like the tree line with more markers bringing you back up further east.
Had to neglect this unfortunately due to a long mm training run with weight. Any Results
Very hot, I did enjoy the race, prefered this to the castleton race that took place a couple of weeks ago. loved the hose pipe shower near the end.
lloyd won. Not sure of exact time.
Very good indeed, very hard indeed, looking forward to next year and yes I will fear Win hill in future!
Brilliant race, didn't do the old course but the consensus afterwards seems to have been that it was a big improvement this year.
Cracking cakes at the finish as well! :D
Excellent race with good marshalling and lashings of cake at the end. Where was Emmi?
Felt like I struggled round (like most runners I guess) but had a good finish pos
Darth had about 15 seconds on me at the finish but I was catching on the descent but legs were shot by the field and only just had ehough to hold off first lady
Pink Pony Steve came in just a few places behind me.
If I could change any thing for next year I'd turn down the thermostat. boy was it hot.
Well done Mark (Live In Hope)
