Thanks for the photos Runway. A good turn out, a cracking sunny day and thanks as well to all who helped out.
More of the same for Jarrett Jaunt I hope.
Which CFR did you follow then?
Ha! I'm tempted to say that's most of them then - but that ain't true! You've just learnt a vital lesson in the art of racing - never ever trust a local vest.
Did that on the Tour of Pendle a few years back and paid for it with some extra ascent - not a race that needs any more climbing in my opinion!
So you fell for our decoy then......
cheers for the pictures Runaway!
Need to get this one to the top of the list. This saturday, 12pm, Lamplugh Green. The gentle soft slopes of Blake await you...

great pics Stu
thanks for those, why you not running?
Rumour has it........
Chris Steele's record to go in a very competitive field this year........
That should upset at least two people......
Don't forget Blake's Heaven saturday 26th @ 12pm @ lamplugh
Only 3 days to go
First fell race of the year, weather forecast good ( ish )
So looking forward to it...
Many thanks to the race organisers and helpers. Great weather, for the race once again. Last weekend in January is always good it would appear. A good field of 88 turned up. And speaking of fields, Joe Richardson is the farmer who allows the race to start on his land. Very kind of him.
Chris Steele was on for breaking his record and left the field with a good lead, presumably on schedule until he had to cut the steps up the back of Sharp Knott in the snow.
Many thanks to the bloke three places in front who went nice and slow up the snow steps, allowing the enormous queue behind him to rest.....
Some impressive drifts on the way back down, disappeared up to the thighs several times, a good couple of screams from around and "gentle" tumbles.
The racing in Cumberland land moves down to Cleator Moor next Saturday for a handicap race, today's times used to inform the handicapper, so I should finally get a good handicap.
results are up: http://www.c-f-r.org.uk/node/2564#attachments
the winning time (and the margin between first and second) is impressive given that he would had have to have cut steps etc. through the snow.
New year's resolutions? This race always gets a good crowd. Who's coming?
Count me in for one.
Always a good tester early on.
Yes, good tester, and lots of fast running. Doesn't look like we'll be cutting steps in the snow this year. Swimming between the tops maybe? And an energy sapping run in through what I imagine will be described as "heavy going".
Usually gets a good number turning out, with a wide range of talent.
Once won a piece of steak at this race.
I'll be there. My second ever race :D
Brutal conditions at blakes heaven today gales rain hail 122 ran winning time outside ladies cr
massive thanks to the marshalls out in that :)
Have warmed up.
Many thanks for today's race. Marshall's and organisers efforts much appreciated.
Good to see so many turn out, apparently it was a record field.
I was sorry to show poor form by not waiting for the prize giving, not sure I have ever been so cold after a race, had to get changed quickly , get in car quickly and get home to the shower. Hate not showing appreciation by beggering off before prize giving
HUGE thank you to everyone who helped with the race today. Must've been a miserable job for the marshals.
Had to sit down on the 3rd top to pull my trousers on. Never been in such painful running conditions before.
My legs are still stinging!
Again, thank you.
I too found myself having to shoot off and warm up. Luckily the shivering has stopped and I'm hoping to regain feeling to my fingers any minute now...
Big thanks to the organisers and to the marshals for sitting out some wild conditions.
Me too. Dashed off to warm up. A big thanks to the organisers and especially the marshals today. Challenging conditions for a while (although unlike my softer skinned son I toughed it out in my shorts).
And me, I don't remember the last time I was so cold. It was all I could do to get to the car and get some dry clothes on but thank you to the organiser and all the marshals.
Apologies to the lady runner I knocked over on the descent from Blake Fell as I did an involuntary Klinsmann.
(PS My little write up is on my blog)
That was fun. Marshalling on the last summit was entertaining. The first 20 minutes I sat cursing my very poor over trousers and wet gloves, huddled behind a cairn. Then it eased off a little and I was very glad to see the front runners arrive. 1. Lee Armor 2. Martin Mikkleson-Barron 3. Brian Taylor 13th Pippa Madams. Very strong Elbra contingent today. Well done all who ran today, getting round and not giving up is quite an achievement.
where did you get your pics please julian? ta
Yes many thanks to all involved in the organisation especially the marshalls who must have had a really rough day. my poor old legs are covered in little red dots!
Was an interesting first fell race for me. Despite how difficult the weather made it, I cannot wait for my next one. The organisers and marshals were fantastic. Must be mad to want to do another.
My partner Kath walked out on to the course and took a few snaps on her phone. The conditions weren't good for smartphones either so some are pretty blurred but I've uploaded them all here anyway, even the selfie she told me to delete. Some were taken at the fence crossing early on and some at the stile towards the end of the race, where she stood in her hi-viz cycling jacket looking like but not actually being a marshal. She didn't follow my instructions to send at least 20 people in front of me the wrong way, sadly.
Roberto:- Welcome to fell racing. Blake Fell race was also my first race 28 years ago. It was a different kettle of fish altogether. The course was different and it was held in the summer. On the day one runner was taken to hospital suffering from heat exhaustion!! I celebrated my acheivement with a good session on the beer at night and couldn't wee until the following day. Good luck with your second race.
thanks julian, you get some idea of conditions from that!
A baptism of fire! Well done. It's not always like that!
Thanks, this is my blog I wrote for it. Its fairly long winded mind. http://www.fetcheveryone.com/blog-view.php?id=47464
