Sounds good, will make a nice change to take family along, should have recovered from Skiddaw by then.

Re: HEPTONSTALL FESTIVAL 9th J
Fancy it but have friends up from south that weekend. They're both runners (well kind of; tarmac based) so might be able to get them interested in visiting the Crags and the Gala whilst i do the race! I'll get them to check out this thread, see if either of them fancy the race as well!

I'm sure they will enjoy the race - plus they'll need to earn their beer some how....
Well done a 3P BTW!
Whats next?

Re: HEPTONSTALL FESTIVAL 9th J
Looks good, Trig.
I'll definitely be there.
Amazing descent from High Brown Knoll down that side towards Pecket Well, with stunning views across to Heptonstall and Stoodley Pike beyond.

Heptonstall Church tower is a great landmark, standing citadel over the surrounding moors, guiding the return.....you can also pick out the White Lion most of the way back: in fact I've just rolled in from that purveyor of excellent independent ales, sampling the various possibilities for a fell race keg. Of the 7 glasses, the current favourite is Springhead Brewery "Robin Hood" - but to be honest I reckon I need to nip back just to be sure.;)
What time did you reccie in???

Had to miss Pendle Cloughs 'cos of family health problems. Not resolved yet so no races planned, very little opportuniuty to train much either. It'll sort itself out soon i hope.

Back for more eh Joey?
The good news is that we have found a route back up from blue pig using a little known runners trod - with no steps! Actually quite runable.
Went round the route tonight and managed to lose the trods leading up to High Brown Knoll - or have they been moved??
Incidently does anyone know the route of the old High Brown Knoll race???
-
Re: HEPTONSTALL FESTIVAL 9th J
Those trods can be tricky blighters - or is it that I can take so many wrong trods that they ALL look familiar on a run? :D

As far as I know it was from Mytholmroyd up and over Sheepstones and out to HBK following a flagged route but the return was any way you wanted. I stand to be hugely corrected over that of course.

There's more "magic lines" on that moor than a bathroom mirror in a columbian night club
Back up there again tonight to find the missing trod (perhaps its been returned)

Race starts at 11.00am - Village Festival starts at 12.00 - until early evening.
I love these gala / fell race days - good excus for pint / BBQ / cake feast.
I'll get some more detail on the events - think there are a few live bands, LITTLE VALLEY BREWERY stall and pumps, Morris Dancing (oh yes!) and childrens entertainment if you can persuade the family to cheer you on/ food stands (always good for post race refuelling) etc - lets hope its a sunny day....
Whats your favourite Little Valley pint? Moor Ale?

Sorry, no Festival website this year but you can get a flavour of the day by viewing the short film made by local lad Ed Lister last year at http://vimeo.com/14547287 (Looks much wetter than I remember it)
Any question to the festival email address are welcome. Hope to see you there.

Post race TUG OF WAR could be a hit CVFR v Tod - Gavin M might need to bulk up if CVFR are to stand a chance
-
Re: HEPTONSTALL FESTIVAL 9th J
Anyone fancy a run round the route?
Planning a quick trot round Wednesday evening
-
Re: HEPTONSTALL FESTIVAL 9th J
Hi Trig, wouldn't mind a practice round the route but have to wait for my dodgy right knee to improve. Nice website BTW, are you going to post any recce dates on there nearer the race?
-
Re: HEPTONSTALL FESTIVAL 9th J
Re recce - Best bet is to send me a pm - and a few us can nip out one evening / weekend.
The map on the website is a good guide but the trods on the moor are very feint - the route will be fully flagged on the day if you don't get chance to recce.
What's the chance of that knee recovering?

Start of March race (15 miles/3000ft) - the Festival Race (6miles/1500ft) will be have the same start - another excuse to get the bunting out!
March winner Ben Mounsey was picked for England last week. Congrtatulations Ben!
Could Heptonstall Festival be YOUR springboard to an international call up?
