Re: Heptonstall Recce 29th Jan
Sounds good Trig. I've put this on the Tod Harriers forum as well. Let's see how many Tod/Calder runners we can get out on the hills around Heptonstall. Is there still the glory finish down the hill in the field near the bee hives?

Thanks Joey - lets see if I can get the private field finish agreed (normally out of bounds for recces).
What do you reckon to us putting a Marqee in the field on the day?
(so runners can get hot drinks, cake, results while they cheer everyone in - rather than sending everyone straight into the village)

Re: Heptonstall Recce 29th Jan
Hi Trig,Any chance you can empty your PM box.
Cheers.

Re: Heptonstall Recce 29th Jan
I think a marquee would be a great addition to the end of the race. The walk from the finishing field to Weaver's Square seemed a long way for a brew last year :D. I think it'd keep more runners milling around to cheer in the finishers after them too. Do we know some one with an actual marquee? I think I know of a couple of gazebos I could borrow but they are back garden size rather than full on marquee size.
Looking forward to the Rev's words of comfort before we set off again too!

Just what we were thinking - much better if you see all your mates cheering you on at the end of 15 miles.
We know a cheap marquee hire - but tell me about your other gazebos etc as these could be ideal for changing/bags (might be freezing cold so would allow finshers to quickly get some warm gear on) - are they "open" capanoies or can they take "walls" for privacy?

Re: Heptonstall Recce 29th Jan
Last recce proved a big hit with 4-pawed runners - bring em along if they need a walk
-
Re: Heptonstall Recce 29th Jan
Thanks for the 'PM', think it might be a bit early in the day for me, especially to get over there from Wakefield ('hours plus' drive)
Besides, I don't know if Management (if you remember Ray Moore on Radio 2 calling the wife that) has anything planned for me that weekend (If I'm not working it)
-
Re: Heptonstall Recce 29th Jan
Hope you can make it over for the race itself; it's got a more civilised start time than the recce. It was a cracking inaugral event last year.

Good point re start time for recce - was actually thinking of being kind and delaying start to 09.00am (seems a few people might be travelling from afar).
I could easily let the CVFR and Tod Harriers know of a new start time....
If you're thinking of coming let me know if you would prefer a 09.00am start (Sunday 29th Jan)
-
Re: Heptonstall Recce 29th Jan
Either start time is fine with me (although an earlier one would suit a bit better if pos.) I'll go with the majority though :D.
-
Re: Heptonstall Recce 29th Jan
I'll vote for 9. It's a fair old drive for me.

-
Re: Heptonstall Recce 29th Jan

Any chance of an 11.00am start? Zzzzz

Re: Heptonstall Recce 29th Jan
I wouldn't mind coming along for this Trig. 9.00am start would suit me better.

Great stuff. I reckon 9am is winning the poll (sorry Jedi)
Keep watching this thread - will send out the final timing/plan over the weekend.
Looks like we might all need to wear name badges - or perhaps we should keep our forum idenities secret?

In the light of the new era of openness on the forum I have replaced my avatar with one that's really of me. Mind you, I look a lot more like the old one these days:

Those that have seen me run will know my avatar thingy is an uncannily accurate representation of my running 'style' (more the antithesis of syle really...) I'm happy to go with 9am too btw.

Re: Heptonstall Recce 29th Jan
DEFINITLEY A 09.00am START - by popular demand
See you at 08.50 fo a 09.00am start outside White Lion pub, Heptonstall (map is on this site www.heptonstallfellrace.org.uk)
There is a shed behind pub where you could leave a bag with warm clothes to avoid delaying your pint / free food at the end
Careful where you park (centre of village is regaularly ticketed) best place is probably at top of cobbles beyond the school
Good to see a few forumites "unmasked" at The Hebden today
How did you all get on??

Re: Heptonstall Recce 29th Jan
Hi Trig, you PM'd me last week about a recce. Ran yesterday didn't feel too bad, can I be down as a maybe please. I'd like to see how I'm doing come the end of the week. If I'm not there at the agreed time, I'm either not coming or lost on my way. Either way don't hang around for me.
What sort of pace will it be run at?

Would be great to see you (don't forget its now a 08.50 for 09.00am start)
I reckon we will have over 20 running; there ought to be Medium and Steady groups, we also have at least one guide who can get round at speed, for any strong ruuners looking for a sub 2.15-30 round. Medium will be around 2.30-3hrs. Steady 3.30. Although it could be tempting to cut short at 10 miles for some.
Not sure what the weather will be doing so; bring your full fell running gear (plus water and gel/energy food).
I might print off some maps, just in case, for anyone who needs to head back/bail out. Will confirm on this strand.
See you Sunday

Re: Heptonstall Recce 29th Jan
Pete F is going to do an 'Early Bird' run at the original time of 8am if that's better for any one. Meet at the White Lion as per the other arrangements.
-
Re: Heptonstall Recce 29th Jan
Could be interesting; Pete F is likely to be medium/steady pace. In theory the fast 09.00am group could catch an 08.00 start. Hare and hound training.
Main groups are still due to meet 08.50 for 09.00.
Anyone seen a weather forecast?
-
Re: Heptonstall Recce 29th Jan
Not too bad; The missing pictures showed blazing sunshine. Good news is no wind.
-
Re: Heptonstall Recce 29th Jan
Just did my hill reps and bumped into Tod Harriers flying through the village.
Still on for Sunday.............
-
Re: Heptonstall Recce 29th Jan
And 3 coming over for Eccleshill road runners as well. Should be a good turn out. Souinds like an extra tureen of soup will be needed ;).
-
Re: Heptonstall Recce 29th Jan
So, by the looks of the weather forecast for Heptonstall on Sunday (4˚ Foggy) we might lose a few on the moors ; - )
I'm happy to lead a quicker paced group for those short on time if there is a call for one? Any takers?
-
Re: Heptonstall Recce 29th Jan
How quick is quick? I wouldn't want to get left behind or keep everybody waiting. I'm usually in the top half of races...
-
Re: Heptonstall Recce 29th Jan
I reckon Jedi Master could do the race in 2 hours and 05-10 min but might do a fast recce in 2 hours 30min? Right Jedi????

Sounds about right Trig, I was thinking a quick group could be out and back in 2hrs 30mins ish – How does that sound Joeyd? Anyone worried they might get left behind the fast paced recce group shouldn't lose any sleep as they would only get picked up by the mid pace group : - )

My mid pace effort might do just under 3 hours (I would aim to the race in 2.30) - hoping we can find someone to do a steady group in 3.30
-
Re: Heptonstall Recce 29th Jan
Steady will be the order of the day with me - longest run since injury last year, plus I'll probably have DOMS from today's gym sesh (hit lower body hard...not well planned at all!).
Think I can just about remember the route..?
(Also just realised I've been telling everyone on Twitter it was Saturday Steve. Off now to fix things...):o
-
Re: Heptonstall Recce 29th Jan
I'll see how I feel on the day. It's tempting to push myself and go with a faster group (like you say, I can always join up with the following group if I can't keep up!). I did the race in 2.37 last year, so would hope to improve on that this time round. A just under 3 hour recce might be more the pace for the weekend though :D.
