Things that make you go :)
Fell running things that makes you go:thumbup:
What puts a smile on your face, gets you laughing or just makes you feel good?
Loads of threads end up as whinge-fests so with spring, the season of optimism just round the corner, hopefully this one is for feel good posts.
Starting it off; The grip from a fresh pair of Mudclaws/Walsh s or even the comfy slipper feeling of an old pair.:D

That feeling you get when you know you're going to have to fart just as you pass the first person you've seen for hours.

That's nice.
Running to the top of the hill when the others around you have started walking. Rare for me, but happened on Sunday. Felt fantastic!

Re: Things that make you go :)
fully engulfed by clag, stopping to think about where you are...and realising that there's noone else around for miles. then deciding which way to go, not that it matters. just because you can.

Re: Things that make you go :)
early morning calm and bright runs in spring, when all you can hear is the calling of skylarks and curlews.

Re: Things that make you go :)
Just reading these things are making me go --> :)
Not had much time for running lately, due to huge pressures from just about all other angles, but last weekend I ran out from my own (new) front door straight into the countryside and it was amazing. After 30 *ahem* 27 years of living in the city made me --> :) :) :D (For about 4 minutes, and then I was tortured by my lack of fitness for the next 40 minutes!)

Re: Things that make you go :)
That feeling you get after running up a steep ascent, cresting the top and then scampering down t'other side.......like flying!!

Running across moorland, thats so soft & springy is great feeling for me or reaching the summit of a big climb, knowing I've run some of it

The sight of my 10 month old and her face turning into a massive beaming smile when I get home at night.
Spending time with Mrs SL away from the stresses of her family and going to Pembrokeshire to live (soon).
Spending time with both of my dogs in the countryside.

Standing on West Buck Stones for a re-fuel & looking out across to Beamsley Beacon & Simon's Seat.
And, a Red Kite hovering above me.

Re: Things that make you go :)
Many of the above.
But also running into a gale at the top of the Dodds/Langdales/High Street with your hood flapping thunderously in your ears and the hail stinging you even through four layers and your fingers just going numb from the cold... and realising that you are nails!

Re: Things that make you go :)
It's a Friday night at Langdale, tent's set up, just about to have your first mouthful of lovely pasta, sat there thinking of the weekend ahead.
Doesn't get a lot better.

Re: Things that make you go :)
Or finshing a race you love, seeing your partner and your little one, and thinking of the well-deserved pizza and lie down you'll be having that night.
(Food themed!)

Lying in the sun with a cold(ish) cider at the end of a long day's sunny running in the Lakes with friends, knowing that you get to do it all again tomorrow.
(Even if tomorrow you do get horrifically sunburnt and minor sunstroke)
Saunders MM - love it

Re: Things that make you go :)
Its happened very rarely to me over the years (and never on the fells) but when it dawns on you that you are going to win! :D
-
Re: Things that make you go :)
When you're running slower than about 15 other runners, but you're the only one bothering to navigate properly, and you end up in the lead four times in the same event. Laughing out loud as I was running along was a first for me (this year's South Shropshire Circular LDWA event).

Re: Things that make you go :)
Jez, I know that spot. I saw a short-eared owl just a few yards from there a couple of days ago!

Re: Things that make you go :)
Running through muddy watery mess with wild, carefree abandon feeling the mud splashing up my legs. That sounds a bit fetisch-y but hey ho, whatever floats your boat!

Would those be the pools above Brotherikeld in Upper Eskdale? Brilliant for skinnydipping. Used to go in there after climbing trips on hot summer days, but I've not been there in warm-enough weather in recent years.

No though you have me interested now :D
Visibility was down to less than 50 m all the way round so no need for modesty for me either :o and it was a cool day so the water didn't feel that much colder ...really . It was just a single deep pool.

Re: Things that make you go :)
I think the best pools are a bit further downriver, below the Esk Falls. There are a few of them, some of them big enough for a proper swim.

Re: Things that make you go :)
Springy peat for the feet, warm sun for the back, the scent of the moors for the nose, the chorus of skylarks and curlews for the ears and all of them together for the soul.
Entering Littondale.
A Boro win.
Watching my lad run.
Standing alone by a wild forest river in lapland, watching an osprey on the hunt.

Re: Things that make you go :)
Absolutely!:) Nothing beats a warm sunny day in the hills with the sound of skylarks and as for curlews, I'm really enjoying their return to Masham. Have never seen so many as I did on my bike ride yesterday.

The runs when it all just works. No niggles, totally energised and the lovely warm tired feeling you get afterwards when you are sat in a cafe!
