Friday 18th May 2012 Attempt
Hello all,
I'm planning an attempt on the above date starting at 2am going clockwise. My problem is I'm living in Ireland and thats ruled out recce opportunities. So I'm hoping I might be able to find some eager runners/navigators who might like to run a leg with me. I've got someone doing the full route with me (Terry Conway) but we could use a few experiened navigators who know the route well. I'm sorted for a leg 4 runner as Bill Williamson has kindly offered to help.
I may be pushing my luck looking for help on a weekday but I'm tying the attempt in with a function in the area which is happening on the Saturday, hence the need to be done and dusted by Friday evening in time for a pint and a sleep.
Any takers? Don't all jump at once!!
Thank you in advance
Paul

Hank,
Thanks for the reply and the offer. I'll PM you to sort some details

Re: Friday 18th May 2012 Attem
This depends how desperate you are!! At present I have a 'working' knowledge, of 1-3, i.e. sketchy on clever short cut bits in places, 4 I need to recce Yewbarrow round to Kirkfell myself yet. Leg 5 I know pretty well, as its straight forward. However I think I'd be unable to assist there as I'm due at work on the 19th. I take its 2a.m. Thursday night/Friday morning you're going?

Re: Friday 18th May 2012 Attem
Just looked again, confused as to exact time you're setting off as you say you require being complete by Friday evening. Also what pace do you require as I'm not quick at all. Failing me being any use as a runner, I may be of use as support.

Thanks for the reply. I'll be starting at 2am Friday morning in the hope of being finished that evening. ie sub 18hr pace all going well. And if it suits and you are willing to support any way you can, then great! I realise the Friday start rules out those at work but Saturday is ruled out because of a wedding I'm attending in the area. Anyway it's very kind of you to offer assistance either way and I appreciate it.

Re: Friday 18th May 2012 Attem
Ah!! Definately a bit fast for me!!! :o But I'll shout you closer to the day, see if you require any other help, and tell you for certain of my availability.

Re: Friday 18th May 2012 Attem
I may be available on that day subject to some work shuffling.
Did an 18.51 anti-clock last August. Done a c/wise too. Know the ground. Based in South-West Cumbria.
Can do a couple of legs. Got Jura on 26th so two legs may be enough.

Re: Friday 18th May 2012 Attem

Hi Paul
If you are still looking I'm almost certainly available that Friday and am happy on any of 1-3 too.

Re: Friday 18th May 2012 Attem
Hi Raj, Thanks for the reply. I think I have a navigator for each leg but as they say, 2 heads are better than 1 and if you fancy a run out, then you are more than welcome! Whatever leg you fancy too! Can you DM me your email address as I'll be sending an email to the lads involved in the next couple of days.
Thanks again for the offer. Much appreciated!!

Re: Friday 18th May 2012 Attem
A very big thank you to all those who helped me with the round over the last couple of days. A nicer, more friendly bunch of people I could not hope to meet. And as a "blow in" coming over to the lakes to attempt this I was amazed by how selfless people were with their time. Of course I should have known this would be the way with the running community. Thanks to road support Gaynor Prior (and husband David for providing updates), Tracy Dean and Laura Ruxton and to a Brilliant set of Nav men, Bruce Duncan, Stuart Air, John Whilock, Gary Thorpe, Raj Mahapatra, Bill Williamson, Alan Lucker, and to Barry Murray, my friend from home who ran the last 2 legs with me, and all those who offers support out in the hills along the way and at Moot hall after the run
The route was every bit as tough as I'd imagined it would be and and I go away from the day with great memories that are unlikely to fade for years to come
Thank you all again,
Paul

Re: Friday 18th May 2012 Attem
Well done Paul. A very good time - from the "Top Ten Fastest BGR" thread from last year and allowing for Mark Palmer's fantastic 14:59 round also last year it looks like you are now #15 in the sub-18hr list! :w00t:
PS. The link to your blog doesn't work - sort it out later!

Just been looking at your blog and I am not so sure about that! That was a really enjoyable write up on that brilliant 3rd place with our own Adam Perry in the Lakeland 100 last summer.

Unfortunately Galtymore falls the same time as this year's Lakeland 100 which I'm going back to run in again. But its a great race and you will enjoy it I'm sure....really steep ups and downs and technical in spots. If the weather is good you'll be well rewarded with stunning views. If not then you'll have enough to do getting up Cush and the two Galty's to keep ya occupied :D
PS: Adam is a top man! Great company round that course

Yes it was funny with his description of those intimitate things that people must do. I am a very average runner and feel a bit in awe of the top runners in the club, not so with Adam, a pure gentleman. He has got a job and is now living away from Manchester so I have not seen him in months.
I had a read of the Galtymore thread on IMRA and the guys commented that the return over Cush is a real sting in the tail
Good luck with the lakeland this year.

Re: Friday 18th May 2012 Attem
For anyone interested (and with time to waste) I wrote a bit of a longwinded account of how last week went which can be found here: www.overtrailsandhills.blogspot.com
Thanks again for the help I received on this fine site!!

Re: Friday 18th May 2012 Attem
Great read Paul, thanks for posting.
Somebody was getting a bit "arty" with the Black and White photos. I loved the little YouTube clip from Moot hall you looked tired!
There was some amount of people involved!

Re: Friday 18th May 2012 Attem
Great report, saw Bill on the OCT, he mentioned he'd done a daft thing the day before, just before he stormed off up Grey Friars with Alan Lucker.
