Re: Arrochar Alps 30 June
1st Stewart Whitlie V40 3-37
2nd Alec Keith V40
3rd Dave Cummins V40
4th Alan Smith V40
5th Steve Fallon V40
6th Dave Ward Senior 3-53-02 (just a few seconds faster than my Jura time)
not often that the first senior is 6th !!!
1st lady Kate Jenkins 4-30 ish
Where were you Andy Walmsley?
Yannis got round and seemed to be really happy to do so too! (after his knee op in March).
Very few Sassanachs there which was a shame.
Great race - 8300ft in 13 miles including a long run out to the dam (30 odd mins) and again back from the pipeline track to the finish.
Although we did get rained/midged off and headed home on Saturday night...
Let's hope they run it again next year.
Much better race than Angus Munro IMO and more deserving to be a Champs race ?!?
Re: Arrochar Alps 30 June
Gutted Dave. :( I had van trouble on Friday - a simple job which should have been a 5 min fix but wasn't. I thought I'd get it done in time for a quick sprint up there but it wasn't to be.
Next year. Definitely!
Some good times were run there! I'll have to train even harder for next year. And keep fingers crossed for a reliable van. :o

I can't belive it  I'm very sorry you couldn't make it.
Never mind get yourself in the Wasdale to make up.

Re: Arrochar Alps 30 June
Yep, some re-jigging of plans is required now.
Glad the race was a success though - it means there's a good chance I can do it next year - and you as well Bill :D
Re: Arrochar Alps 30 June
Yes glad the race was a success, a bit early I know but what date is it being run next year.

Pretty challenging conditions both for runners and marshals.
Arrochar Alps Hill Race 28/06
With just 3 weeks to go to this race I am getting an increasing number of emails about entry so I just thought I would put on here that it is entry on the day only from 9-1030 hours in Arrochar village hall, around 1/2 a mile from the race start. Entry £7 including food and drink (we are sponsored by Fyne Ales again!)
Otherwise same as last years course.
The 2 cut off times are slightly tighter this year but still doable by me, so by no means killers:
2 hours off Ben Vorlich back down to Sloy Dam, and then 1.5 hours to get over Ben Vane to the col on the other side.
You can get details off Scottish Hill Runners, Scottish Hill Racing or from me.
Hope to see some of you up for this, only 30 minutes north of Glasgow.

Re: Arrochar Alps Hill Race 28
Just to say the map above isn't a route suggestion but an idea of what many run, the race doesn't suggest a route but you must hit the checkpoints. Sorry but this was a real battle with the forestry commission. "we want to see a route map' 'there isnt a fixed route they have to find their own way' 'but what route do they take?"
Also I wouldn't climb straight up Vorlich from the dam unless you like steep climbs. I would go up the walkers path between the two stream you can see on the map just half a mile or so before the dam. It isn't distinct until higher up though.
I went round yesterday. It is the driest I have seen these hills, but still water available until 1/3 way up Ben Ime, with the two smallest climbs left.

Re: Arrochar Alps Hill Race 28
Well for all of those of you who enjoyed the 'Great Lakes Run' a similar treat awaits any of you willing to drive up to Glasgow next weekend for the Arrochar Alps Race. It would be good to see more of the southern runners coming up for this tough classic, easily accessable but tough. My avatar is the course profile!!!

Here are Arrochar results from last year:

As you'll see, times are broadly similar to what you might expect for Jura.
Re: Arrochar Alps Hill Race 28
Lift: on the remote off chance that anyone could use a one-way lift to this race on Saturday morning, I shall be driving south Lochcarron - Glenshiel - Invergarry - Fort William - Arrochar.
Re: Arrochar Alps Hill Race 28
I can't believe how long this has been on my "must do" list (since it was first run years ago). Recced it last year in about 6 hours but am really not in shape at the moment.
I'm just hoping it will be on again next year. :o
Re: Arrochar Alps Hill Race 28
I hate to state the obvious, but the weather forecast for Arrochar tomorrow is changeable so anyone coming up to race will need the standard safety kit, i.e. full body waterproofs, suitable map, compass, whistle and emergency food. The tops maybe in clag, so write your bearings down before hand.
Next week, how to suck eggs.
;)

Get it in your diaries for next year.
Well done to Jason and Westies for keeping this going. Next stop a "British"?
