As I'm based in the south getting up to the lakes on a regular basis isn't that easy, and I'm hoping a solid week of recceing will improve my fairly shoddy route knowledge.
Any thoughts or words of wisdom gratefully received - Monkey
Are your dates already sorted?
I am up there for a week at the end of oct/early nov - accomodation booked: but I need to check dates. Its a family thing, but will be spending a couple of days doing the sort of thing you have in mind.
Re: Bob Graham training week
If you let me know when your coming up I'm sure I can fit in a few runs :)

Re: Bob Graham training week
Thanks for the replies.
Always injured - have not get any dates booked as yet as I will have to fit the trip around work.... and it'll be a month before I can confirm the time off. If you let me know when you're likely to be in the Lakes we might be able to meet up - it would certainly help with transport to / from each leg.
Baggins - when I can confirm my dates I may well take you up on the offer - thanks.
Re: Bob Graham training week
I can make it up on friday afternoons and saturday days, as long as its after the relays and the langdale horseshoe (Late october is best for me)
Re: Bob Graham training week
Re: Bob Graham training week
We're recceing bits of Leg 2, 3 and 4 Friday September 24th and Saturday September 25th based in Gt. Langdale.
If anyone fancies joining in...:)

But there isn't a Sept 24th and 25th that falls on a Friday/Saturday? Lost already?
Monkey - Will be interested in popping along with you. Won't try this for some time probably not even until year after (2009) but would love to pop down. Afraid I can only make Saturday or Sunday though.
Let us know the dates and I will see what I can do.

What is it they say about the 6 P's...?
Perfect Planning Prevents P1ss Poor Performance
I obviously meant Sept 21st and 22nd:o

Just post the dates and if I'm free I'll come up.

Re: Bob Graham training week
I'm also just starting training for BG attempt next summer (or 2009 if it all goes horribly wrong).
I'll be staying in Buttermere 13-14th Oct weekend and would definitely be up for a recce run on the Sunday. Think we already have some plans for the Saturday though.
I'll also be around in Eskdale 10-11th Nov if that's any good for anyone? I might still be a bit broken from the OMM though.

Re: Bob Graham training week
Thanks for the replies. Sadly it'll be a couple of weeks before I can confirm time off work, but am still keen to get up to the lakes for a week / several weekends in october.
I've also got to get myself round the Courmayer - Chamonix race without any major mishaps at the end of the week..... given my lack of hill running at the moment this may prove tricky

If you fail to plan
you plan to fail:D
I'll hopefully be at the Pumlumon that week end.
Re: Bob Graham training week
I supppose there will be loads, but where would I find a good BG training calendar.
I am aware of the requirement to get to 10,000 ft per week. I have a 200m (over about 1.5 Km) climb right behind my house so I will need to be getting up to doing 15 reps of that a week (if my metric imperial conversions are correct), which almost does not sound like enough. I was probably doing 8 to 10 reps on it a week in preperation for Paul's BG.
Re: Bob Graham training week
I've just read this entire thread and was just aboput to post that I'd be happy to join Monkey on a couple of runs in October before just realising that I'm 6 years too late!!! I hope it was a good week, Monkey? Regarding a training calendar does Bob not have one on his site - I'm being lazy and not looking but I'm sure he used to have a training page?

Likewise here I was sure I have seen one somewhere in the past but I cannot find one now.
Re: Bob Graham training week
Bob appears to have ditched the table of training he used to have on his web-site and replaced it with this page
I've seen various figures banded about: 10,000ft average for 10 to 12 weeks, 15 decent days on the high fells, 150,000ft through the spring, 100 hours of training. I suspect these add up to more or less the same volume
Pat, your local climb sounds ideal for a few mid-week hill-reps but you cannot really replicate the big climbs and descents found on the round on it

I agree, (my quads are still not right three weeks after doing 3 legs of Paul's attempt). We have ideal ones, Sandy Hays and Dimpus Clough to Mount Famine over in Hayfield, which is only 8 miles from home.
Re: Bob Graham training week
Found it. I knew I had seen something in the past.

The table is even dafter than I remembered! :w00t:

The link to it did mention that it is quite an intense one.
