New Salomon Fell cross
http://www.peteblandsports.co.uk/pro...cross-aw11.htm
any one seen one yet. I saw them last week in Intersport in the Alps, 130 Euros
A bit pricey but they looked very well made for their weight. A bit of protection for the toe too which most of the others lack, grip looked good and I have to say I'm tempted as a mountain shoe

Re: New Salomon Fell cross
Don't hang about Ian, according to this article I was reading a couple of months ago
http://www.mudsweatandtears.co.uk/20...ll-cross-slab/
Numbers are limited! Great write up...

Re: New Salomon Fell cross
Yep - saw a pair in Up&Running, Keswick on Borrowdale weekend. Looked well made and tailored for UK conditions. But £125!!!???
The upside though is that with this and an up-date to the SpeedCross in the form of a SC-3 then the SC-2s are being sold off for a song. Did a quick web search and got some for £60 (p&p free) They'll keep me going a while yet - perhaps the FC will have come down in price a bit by then.

Paid £65 for my SC3`s....

Re: New Salomon Fell cross
I'm moving back over to walshes at the moment as I go through the sole of fell shoes fairly fast. Most off roady type races round here that warrant a fell shoe also tend to have a fair bit of tarmac in them and I can't afford to replace my shoes every few months with a pair that cost £60-70. I haven't tried any Salomon shoes yet but wouldn't ever pay so much for a shoe. I'm sure they're well made and they look decent, but the grip will still wear fast like most other fell shoes (unless you're lucky enough to run entirely off road with zero concrete or tarmac) and at least I can get a new set of walshes for £40.

where was this and how do sizes compare with innovate etc, Salomon used to be a bit out in comparrison to other makes

Re: New Salomon Fell cross
from looking at them, SC3s are different to Fellcross... am I right on that one, or are they actually one and the same thing?

Yes they're different Tim, have a quick look at the article I posted earlier. It's Salomon's first attempt at an all out 'fell' shoe, whereas the Speedcross are supposedly more of a trail shoe. Although with such an aggressive sole unit it is possible to use them as a fell shoe too in my opinion.
Only issue I have with the SCs is that when I tried them on I felt a bit like I was wearing high heels, and felt that they would encourage ankle roll. However I know a lot of people that have them and love them.
-
Re: New Salomon Fell cross
yeah, thought so. SC2's were always a bit "tall" for me on the heel, and I just wanted to clarify that SC3s at £60 were a different shoe to the fellcross at £120...
they look tempting, but even being a gear geek I find myself pausing for thought at that price...

SC3`s are more like £85-90 buddy...

Re: New Salomon Fell cross
Ah well. I'll just have to trash my current shoes and end up totally barefoot. That'll show em. (or is that another thread...?)

Everybodys entitled to their own opinion Andy, we all look/want for different things in our shoes...
Did try on some PB Elites at my local Go outdoors but found them far too stiff, grip looked great though...

Re: New Salomon Fell cross
Compared to a lot of the 'new generation' fell shoes, Walshes do feel a bit stiff, but after running in Mudclaw 270s for a while I find the firmness of Walshes gives me extra confidence. They have their issues but as a serious fell racing shoe it's still hard to beat the PB Racer. They are starting to look like a bargain nowadays as well... £100+for Salomons??? Come on..

may be you are right FH, but I don't want them as a lightweight Fell shoe I was thinking more of long mountain races/rounds, They have a lot more protection around the toe and look well made. It's really to replace my old Highlanders but some thing I can do the longer more rugged races in?, Tried 3 different shoe since my highlanders and non match up to it's ruggedness and performance, saw these in a shop and thought HMMMMMMmmm?

Re: New Salomon Fell cross
Walsh Spirit Peak? I've heard a number of very good reports about them.

Re: New Salomon Fell cross
So anyone got a pair yet? Be interesting to hear an unbiased real world review.

I remember hearing that even the sponsored/paid athletes prefered to race in other makes of shoes.

Re: New Salomon Fell cross
Weighed in and got a pair broke my heart :w00t:. After wearing La Sportiva cross lights (on second pair) the fell cross are brilliant. Been thrashing them down Great Whernside and up too and they stick. They feel great as well. Confidence has improved going down hill bring on the 29th of oct.

Re: New Salomon Fell cross
I bought a pair of the Fellcross1's while in Chamonix over the summer.
Plus points- Not as 'high heel' as SC2's, better tread, not wearing out as fast as SC2's (but it is still early days!), lighter, not everyone has a pair
Negative points- Very pricey, not everyone has a pair

Re: New Salomon Fell cross
bought a pair of size 11 fellcross today, for the geeks lurking (including me) they weigh in at 31grams, same size speedcross 3 weigh in at 350grams. not run in them yet, i am running out of options, moved away from inov8 and walsh, i am hoping these are my "perfect" shoe

Re: New Salomon Fell cross
I got a pair of Speedcross 3's from Go Outdoors in Blackburn. They're always having offers on each section and so when it was the running section turn I got them for £69. I missed out by a week on the half price sale when they went out like hot cakes for £45! They are an excellent shoe especially for pronators like me. The heel looks like it will wear quickly but doesn't. In terms of banzai descending grip though there's only one shoe for me and that's a Mudclaw.
